We trying something new off defensive set pieces with him and Robbo switching sides in open play after we clear- seems to have happened loads in the last few games

I noticed that too, I thought it was just a situational thing, but I think Klopp wants floated balls from wide instead of whipped if the standard set play gets cleared.

Robertson is always on the front post, whatever side corners come in from. And Trent is nearly always at the backpost, again from both sides. That's how they sometimes end up on opposite flanks if we make a quick break.

No it's not new, it's just a coincidence it's popped up a few times recently. We've done it under previous managers too, certainly Rafa anyway.

At a game recently it happened and the play didn't stop for a couple of minutes so the commentators noticed it and thought it was a permanent switch

Yeah understand that is the start of it but seems to be lasting much longer with them switched than we've seen in the past

Hope Trent gets a rest in the international break

My memory is shocking these days but I remember in recent seasons the full-backs of Man U (could have been Spurs...) trying to switch back with the ball in play, the result being that they were both stuck in the middle of the pitch when their opponents poured forward down one of the wings.

Back to Trent; superb again.  He perhaps could be a great central midfielder but I hope he never moves from right-back.  The comparison to Beckham that somebody made many pages ago is looking more and more accurate.

Yeah forgot to mention that ball in for Firmino in the first half. Unbelievable dip on it, think Firmino was surprised himself that Trent managed to put it on his foot from 50 yards away.

Which right backs in the history of football displayed such a consistently high level at such a young age? I can't think of any. He has the potential to be one of the best to ever play his position. What impresses me the most is his ability to read and adapt to unexpected situations on the field. His corner against Barcelona is the stand out example of that, but he displayed it numerous times today as well. There was that situation in the 12th minute where he let the ball bounce of the cornerflag before he nutmegged Chillwell and sent in a perfect cross to the far post that Milner skied over, and it all happened in two seconds! You can't teach someone to improvise like that.
None. There have been some quality young fullbacks in the last century but all seemed to lack something to their game, especially consistency. Trent literally has it all. Maybe he lacks the sheer pace of some fullbacks, but even so he's not exactly slow.

I have to admit, when he first burst onto the scene he seemed to be like one of those players who started well, but never really progressed. How wrong I've been, he seems to address his weaknesses and get better every week. Still some idiots at my work who say he's a liability in defence ffs.

The play where he played the bounce off the corner flag perfectly to nutmeg a guy and then deliver a perfect cross i hold forth as a further presaging (along with The Corner and some others) of my supposition that he is going to win the balon d'or someday.

Or Gerrard.
I remember that game when Owen had his very first hamstring injury of many away at Leeds , was a few months after Evans left the club and Houllier took sole charge and Gerrard played wing back that game and was unbelievable, mind you he was unbelievable in Instanbul in extra time as well.

That cross for Firmino though was Beckhamesque, nasty dip and bend.

Some of his crossing was unreal yesterday that one which almost went out and he somehow managed to get his leg around it was incredible, it was just a shame that  no one got on the end of one. His defending is improving as well, came in with some important interceptions and was so quick on starting our attacking game.

think he have mastered the art of crossing and still only 21.

It's the kind of crosses most if not all keepers and defenders hate to defend against. As a defender, any touch could mean an own goal.

And as a keeper you cant read the trajectory of ball and could end up in no man's land.

Sometimes, I do hope our front 3 are a bit more aggressive and gambles a bit when they see trent trying to deliver the ball in.

Definitely. We're not capitalizing on his genius enough. Milner yesterday, for example, had enough time and space to take a second touch before shooting. Firmino had a similar chance in the Chelsea game and shot straight at the keeper because he didnt take the second touch. With the help from the corner flag and the nutmeg in the build up yesterday it would've been one of those cases where the assist was more beautiful than the goal.

agree, he deserves assists for those two and also the second genius corner in consecutive CL home games that Mane missed. His manipulation of the bal for that chance was unreal. Most people put it out for a goal kick I reckon

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

He shouldn't be this good this young. No superlative is too high for this young man. Has to be looked at for young player of the year. Will soon be our best player 'pound for pound' (i.e) If he was unavailable who would replace him even if money no object.

Cant believe he wa cheeky enough to do a Barcelona again on wednesday, you just cant teach what he has
