to be fair to that person their post was from two months ago. Milner has established himself as a very good player so far in that position.

That original post was 2 months ago so needs to be taken in that context. No-one would be saying Milner is not a decent left back anymore.

On the more wider issue, it probably goes to show that Klopp knows what he's doing. Whilst we've won nothing yet, and things could easily fall apart, we've been good so far this season. Great at times. That's with Moreno/Milner at left back and Henderson as DM. It might come and back and bite us on the arse, but all the armchair managers on here and Twitter that were bemoaning lack of a left back and a specialist DM are looking sillier and sillier by the week.

For me, one of the biggest wins this season is that Klopp has been vindicated in many of the decisions he made in the summer. Moreno's performance on Tuesday, albeit one game, was another vindication in Klopp's judgement of a player's ability and potential.

I suppose the over arching lesson is to trust the manager. He knows what he's doing. He'll get some things wrong but who doesn't in any job, in any walk of life.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

You know, you are right, I didn't notice that the post was from a couple months ago. However, I'm assuming Milner's skill in his left foot as a professional footballer aged 30 hasn't miraculously changed in a two month period. He's always been pretty decent with his left foot.

Seems like a good guy and a positive influence around the squad but he's not good enough. Doesn't possess the footballing brain needed to be trusted in a defensive position. Despite his pace he very rarely actually creates anything in the final third either. Milner is a vast improvement on him.

Seems like he's always hanging around with pretty much everyone in the squad. He was at that party for Firmino with the Brazilian lads and there was a couple of photos earlier with Origi etc. There are things he could be criticised for, but he does seem a well-liked member of the squad.

A solid game from him and hopefully he can keep building on this. Klopp has mentioned how good he's been in training a few times now in an attempt to send a message out to some of the fans that are extremely critical of him. There's an extremely good player in there somewhere if he can curtail some of his more extravagant plays. He's a superb athlete, has an excellent shot, his touch almost never lets him down and he has the confidence to try things in the opposition's third. There is a really really good player in there and I hope Klopp is the man to unlock that.

There might be a good player in there, but there will never be a good defender. Don't think even Klopp can unlock that.

It's risk v reward really. If Moreno can add to our team with minor tweaks elsewhere and the product of these two changes creates an improved team, I don't think Klopp will hesitate for a second to make the changes.

Klopp's doing the right thing with the left-back slot and the way he's managing Moreno so far this season in my opinion. The way Klopp's got the team playing we're not desperate for wildcard performances. Committed and disciplined percentage play from the LB slot is welcome and Milner's contribution has been very valuable. I think Milner is well suited to the role.

It's good to hear Klopp praise Moreno's performance in training and makes sense to give him a look-in in the league cup where fluffed lines won't jeopardise momentum in the league. Should we find ourselves trailing late in a league game his pace and aggression may come in handy.

In the 'random thoughts' category, I reckon a loan spell in Italy could do Moreno some good. I think somewhere like Chievo or Atalanta would be suitable and he'd stand a good chance of getting enough playing time to test the stuff he needs to work on in important games. We don't have a lot of depth at LB currently though so I realise a loan for Albie is unlikely.

He's the only recognised left-back in the squad and he's still managed to lose his place to a midfielder. Praise from Klopp is nice but it ultimately means nothing, ask Sakho and Allen. Milner will start again on Saturday and unless injured, will likely stay there all season.

We could do with a song/chant for Albie Moreno. He'd get loads of confidence from it.

Maybe we could re-work the old Henchoz song.....

Albie, Albie, Albie, Albie, Albie,
When they attack, he's never back (unless his recovery pace allows)
Albie, Albie, Albie, Albie, Albie.

Would be interesting to see if there's similar pictures of Milner, seeing as they're both playing that position.  I don't remember a time this season where Milner has been caught way up the pitch with a player over on the right wing.

Moreno's positioning is a repeated issue in his game though so there's nothing wrong with highlighting it. It would be an agenda if this was the first time he has done it but it's been a feature of his game since he arrived at the club.

You say it has been a feature of his game. Do you not think Klopp and his staff are aware of it and Moreno chooses to ignore what they are saying.

He was unwell during he week apparently, he was at Melwood though yesterday (or the day before whenever those pics where taken), but doing running and being assessed rather than with the main squad. I'm guessing it means he is at least in the squad for tomorrow.

In my opinion; Firmino should be our second choice penalty kick taker. He's cold blooded like Milner.

As for Alberto, if plays tomorrow, I'll back him 100%, we could very well make use of his speed and width against a Palace side.

This myth about his positioning, I really thought it would've died by now. Klopp has said it a million times he wants his fullbacks high up the pitch, including an illustration on MNF. Moreno is out of the team because he is shit at basic things like clearing the ball, stopping an attacker 1v1 and not conceding silly fouls. He hasn't been sold because Klopp believes he'll get better with coaching.

I don't get the hate,  I really don't.  Makes mistakes,  gets things wrong,  but he does more good than bad in my opinion.  The way people go on about Moreno on here you'd think no other player ever made a single mistake.
Rossiter absolutely bossed it tonight. Really believe he'll end up playing more games this season than Lucas.

Happens every game. LB puts in a cross, opponents take the ball and counter with a long ball before the LB has recovered.

If you wanted to find one, there'd be several every game.

The difference would be Henderson, Gini, or Can would most likely be covering for him.

But yes, there would be loads. How often is milner up putting crosses into the box. If there's a breakdown in transition or a quick counter, he'll be 20 yards behind play every time.

Thought he was decent for the most part other than the occasional Moreno moment.

Genuine question though. How has this 'hands behind the back' technique not been coached out of him? Genuinely wonder that. It's so obviously negatively impacts on his ability to defend yet he obvious hasn't been told to stop it.

Decent performance overall by Moreno. Attacking wise he was fantastic, shakey defensively in the first half but a massive improvement on the second.

That first time assist for Can from Coutinho's pass was beautiful. His speed of a massive asset.

Good attacking but bloody hell, they exploited our left hand side too easy tonight.

Noticed Emre Can came over to the left side and was practically playing left back.   Felt relieved when Klavan came on and we could push moreno away from that area completely.  As usual he's decent going forward but not very good when asked to defend and i don't mean in and around our box, we could be in their half and whereas clyne will play safe and back to the defenders if a forward pass isn't clear or obvious, not so with moreno, trying to put his studs on the ball or flicks or back heels, losing the ball.

I was yelling at him to close down on Zaha for that 2nd goal BUT to be fair, and at times, he lost his runner as he was too attack minded.  To be fair, he did regain possession a few times and he did excellent on the attack.

Nevermind though, we won :)
