Much rather have Young than Downing, especially for 15m.

Downing - flatters to deceive . Not sure how or why he was MOM for England v Ghana . He was average imo and Young was far better

He'll win the league in the next 3 years. Quote me on that.
Quote me on this, but come next season he'll be great for us. Just needs to remove the walking headless chicken next to him

Jamie Dalton (who seems pretty well connected journalism wise) saying reports out of France that Lille will accept 15-18mn for Hazard and Wenger has first option on him....

No reason for Wenger to have first option and Lille have stated before how much they well let Hazard go for, and its alot more than 15-18 million

I'd rather have my 104 year old great grandmother than Stewart Downing. Wouldn't make it anywhere else in Europe and the only reason he does in England is that his birth certificate says England in nationality

How would that work? Por ejemplo: we bid higher but Arse have first option? Doesn't make sense.

Arse have the option to match any bid anyone else makes. Basically stops anyone bar arsenal getting him cheap.

Normally a player can look great on tubes, but one of the things that's encouraging for me is just the amount of youtube videos on him

From twitter:

Lille are now prepared to accept offers around 15-18m for Eden Hazard. Arsenal retain first refusal on the dimunitive winger

soooo...why would Arsenal get first right refusal?  Did they do a deal with Lille recently, or did some journalist just realise that  Wenger and Lille are both French, and put 2 and 2 together to get 'ignorant racial stereotype'?

Hasn't Wenger tried to get him before?

Could've been a deal made then, a "He's not leaving now, but when he does you get first refusal." kinda thing.

I'm sure we'll end up signing Stewart Downing.

Plays left and right wing, beats his man and delivers decent crosses.

Rumours were that we very nearly signed him in Jan for 15m.

Hope not.

There's this player called Lionel Messi. He's quite good actually. We should look at him.

Not proven in the Premier league mate. Doesn't have the physical presence needed in England either. Can you imagine him against Stoke or Blackburn on a wet Tuesday night in November? Wouldn't like it up him one little bit.

I'd give him a swerve.

If we are going to play with fluidity with the likes of Suarez popping up left, right and centrally at times then buying Ashley Young does make a lot of sense to me as he has the pace and skills to play like that.

Suarez, Carroll, Young makes quite a strike-force...

Perhaps it will come down to price tag and what other options Comolli gives us though...

Probably. Anyone reckon DJ Campbell would be a decent shout as a back-up striker if Blackpool go down? A EPL proven goal-getter. Reckon a cheeky 6M bid might be enough to get him.

What i don't understand right now is our (we fan) interest in looking for squad players. Even though i reckon that our squad depth is very poor, it doesn't mean that we are looking to get some squad players in the summer.
Every time we heard some news about LFC and our summer activity whether it come from our players, our staff, kenny or Comolli, it's for stating that we are going to be active in the transfer market (meaning spending big).
We also heard several times Kenny saying that we are going to spend money for players better than the one we have. Could it be possible for us all to imagine those players will be better than the choosen one we have ie. The first XI players ??

This winter, we brought in Suarez and Carroll and we shipped out FT and Babel. The former two are in our first XI. So talking about buying players such as Kranjkar and Adam as squad players doesn't make sense at all right now. We have to enhance the quality and pace of our first XI and that's why i think that we won't be signing those players
Comolli said in a recent interview that we'll be looking to add to our squad depth as well as adding quality in there, we can buy Sanchez, Hazard & Coentrao but we'll never have them play about 50 games if we want to win all competitions, as a matter of fact our first eleven right now is one of the best in the league but the problem is that they hardly played together due to injuries and suspensions.

Adding players like Kranjcar, Marveaux & Adam is a move in the right direction, it is all about the team and certainly they will improve our squad and provide good backup option when the likes of Gerrard, Meireles & Lucas get injured or suspended, they can also help us apply a good rotation policy that will prevent players from getting tired and therefore less injured.

It is all about the team and not the individuals, Man City & Real Madrid are the perfect examples that buying names doesn't guarantee trophies, Man United (as much as I hate to admit it) are also the perfect example that you don't need to have a team full of big names to win, rather have a coherent united (no pun intended) will do a better job.x

no we didnt. spearing and lucas were the base with raul , dirk and luis interchanging ahead.
Watch Kenny's post match, he said Carroll and Suarez worked well up front together and took turns dropping deep to help the midfield which was clear during the game. Kenny gives the players freedom to move around during the game but it was 4-4-2, same as we've played for weeks now

Its a waste of time signing the likes of Kranjcar and Downing. They are nowhere near good enough to take us to the level we want to be. We need to start signing young players who are goin to grow with the club, who are goin to get better as we get better if you know what I mean. Players who we can get a good four or five years service out of them at least. Players that can help us win things. Not players who'll only be good enough for a season or two, then we have to get rid in order to bring in better players. We need to stop goin down the road of filling our squad with stop-gap players and start bringing in quality players who will be around for years to come and help us become very successful.

Both are excellent but I prefer M'Vila as he is younger and taller.

easier said than done unless you have money like Chelsea, Man City or Madrid.

You have to have a plan like Spurs and Barca did for example and that is still expensive - Bet you would of said Bale and Lennon wouldn't be worth the risk when Spurs brought them and brought british.

What is realistic is buying 1 quality player and have other good buys - I said your worse than Mac Red(and to be fair to Mac he is coming more down to earth now) and you keep on proving that.

At a guess we will have about 40m to spend plus sale money but we need to improve the squad and buyt approx 5-7 players so we will be buying the odd 5-10 player and noth 20m if we need that amount of players to improve the squad.

I can understand your opinion about Downing as I don't see anything special in him, but Kranjcar is quality to me and he is a top player who is benched because 'Arry prefers giving the likes of Jenas & Palacios more chances than him. Kranjcar was immense for Spurs last year and helped fire them into forth, I remember two games for him this year which he was very good for Spurs and they were against Sunderland & Bolton. If we're going to have 40m pounds plus player sales which would amount to about 60m to spend next year then I prefer if we spend them on about 7-8 very good players than spend them on just 4 quality players and suffer from lack of depth again.

Ashley Young is as good as gone (Man U or Liverpool) and so I don't see Villa selling Downing in the same summer. Downing has a few years left on his contract and I doubt will be going anywhere. Although Oliver Kay did mention him as a possible target in his chat today...

Dont talk shit I hardly ever post on threads concerning potential transfers so likening me to mac red(who I actually dont mind btw) is way off the mark. And to me its just sounds like someone looking for an argument.

Also Bale and Lennon where massively rated youngsters who have got better with Tottenham as the club its self has got better. These are the type of players we need to be looking at bringing in. Not players like Kranjcar or Downing who are nowhere near good enough. If we want to get back into the top four, we need to try were we can to sign players of better quality then the likes of tottenhams squad players. It wont be easy as it looks like we wont have european football next season, but we need to try where we can.

Meh. I reckon you were serious.

I'm willing to put my trust in Kenny when it comes to buying players. However, even DJ Campbell might have tested my loyalty. His 65 goals in 88 games for Yeading is pretty impressive though.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.
