Not getting carried away as in the PL there's all types of tests that awaits but he's settled in pretty well pretty quickly.

Could turn out to be the best free signing we've ever made.

Well at least you're not getting carried away :P

Right? I mean, best free signing ever? Nonsense. What about Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic?!

Babbel was signed on a free wasnt he? As was Gary Mac and Fabio Aurelio i believe.

Lets not get carried away yet. Its only one game. We could do with him being good, its been ages since we had a good centre back.

Babbel was a fantastic, you look at what he won in such a short space of time:

FA Cup: 2000–01
League Cup: 2000–01
FA Community Shield: 2001
UEFA Cup: 2000–01
UEFA Super Cup: 2001

If Matip can replicate that I'd more than happy.

Thought it was one of the better CB performances in some time. Hope that's his baseline for every game now

Apparently he wasnt even fully fit and wouldn't have played if Klavan wasn't injured, which makes the performance even more impressive. It also highlights the very real depth concerns we have at CB, but that's for another thread I suppose!

Not sure if this is the same poster.

But there was a poster by the name of Binomial on the LFC Forums who was a massive troll and was outed as a Sunderland fan.

I guess only time will tell with his posts.

To be honest I like both a lot. Matip seems to have the right mixture of size, speed and skill and Klavan is a no thrills solid central defender. Now if they could just be on the same pitch at the same time..

Near 200 Bundesliga appearances plus loads of CL experience, just turned 25 this month. Good in the air, looks a threat on set pieces and likes to stride forward into midfield. Really glad FSG finally got their checkbooks out for a player of his ilk, can't keep trying to find good deals on the cheap.

Sensational today again.

Been saying for a while our defence will define this season. We`ve got the best attack in the league, if defence gives us a chance we`ll have every chance for major success this season. Joel please keep this up.

Very calm under pressure and never goes to ground tackling .

Need to watch the Vardy chance again - does he go rushing forward unnecessarily? He vacated his position and not sure how/why?

Just one of those things that will happen when the central defenders are expected to push up and close the spaces. From time to time, you'll miss the interception or get overplayed.

He was very good today. We contained Leicester today which made the job of our centre backs so much easier. Hopefully he'll show how good he is when under more pressure.
