The original thread is still alive and well : so is Lucas.

An absolute honorary scouser this fella.
When people were talking about how well Firminho has done to settle (new league, new country, new language, new teammates, young lad under pressure after a shaky start, I couldn't help reflecting back to Lucas and the way he's fought and fought for his chances here.
I still can't believe he was overlooked by Brendan for the captaincy / vice captaincy to be honest.

& despite everything he's done to earn it, you still get the odd Red who doesn't respect his contribution. Maddening.

Love the Lucas.

This

300 games, fuck me we are honoured that he has reached that figure. I hope when he hangs up his boots he hangs around to do some coaching.

Is Joe Allen the new Lucas, much maligned but worth his weight in gold ?

What was that stumble like he made in the second half trying to get onto a pass from Flanno. Like he was having stroke.

Laced the peno and laced another for the mutants behind the goal.

Best word to describe him. He kicks, he scraps, he argues, he gives every bit of his ability for us.

He looked angry kicking that pen today, then he slammed in a rebound and made a gesture to the inbred Stoke fans behind the net. Loved it.

A colossal performance from the lad. That celebration, giving it to Stoke supporters. Absolutely loved it. If only some of our fans could give the same passion in the stands that this lad gives on the pitch then we might just be half a chance!

thought he looked pretty spent after the 80th min, understandably so. came through with a great pen though credit for that.
i've started to dislike it when he makes an unnecessary foul in the middle of the park and argues with the referee for no reason.
i'd think it's counter-productive, although possibly he's just winding oppo players up or something.

And I'm sure in the true honour of his name, you'll have 643 attempts at hitting the back of the net before finally hitting the target.

His undisputed quality of character aside, does he honestly still have the legs to play in this midfield? Thought he was pretty poor second half.

Don't entirely disagree. (And I'm responding recognising that you are one of the more thoughtful posters).

But frankly, he's the least of our problems.

If we need personnel better at the "whole playing football thing", there are five or six more high profile starters who deserve to have their contributions questioned before Lucas.

Cracking centre half. Reads the game better than most. Do you have to be over 6 foot to be a centre half?

I disagree, I think he's a huge problem. The lad can barely move after playing an hour and struggles when asked to play more than two games in a row.

Anyway I don't think Lucas is a starter when everyone is fit (particularly if we sign Teixeira), but moving forward we need someone with more legs and a bit more passing nous. I personally think Klopp will look to add a top class centre midfielder in the summer and use Grujic as a sort of back up/cup player.

Love him, giving shite to the Stoke fans after he buries his penalty.

Understands the club, loves the city, the city loves him, he shouldn't leave anytime soon, people like him are needed around the place. It's a scandal the amount of times the club was ready to bin him in recent years

Certainly a man to keep around the team as a squad player, but an important one. He's clearly needed in important games and I think Jurgen sees that and will play him in those games and rest him in others. Very important character in the dressing room.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Was at the game last night,  anyone who doesn't see the influence Lucas has on the whole team needs to attend a game and open their eyes.  Hendo & Milner might be Capatain & VC,  but it's Lucas who is the intelligent one,  it's Lucas who literally tells Emre where to position himself  for the whole f*ckin game,  it's Lucas who's organising and encouraging the whole team.  So his legs aren't too quick,  frankly,  who gives a sh*t,  a team needs players like Lucas,  bold, fearless  experienced pro's who's game intelligence is second to none,  it's the reason Lucas gets moved back once he tires rather than subbed off.  Kloppo gets what Lucas brings,   heart,  desire and a decent footballer to boot.

Neil Atkinson said it so well last night:

"A centre mid gone centre half who has been booed on at this ground who has devoted his career to this club who has ran and worked and dived into the crowd for this club. A centre mid gone centre half who is as much one of us as any player can be. A Liverpudlian, pure and simple."

think he is our most important player and by some way at the moment.
mainly because some of our others are under performing.

others may have more style or more noticeable assets but imo read between those and we have a very influential type of player here.

think he has a few years left in him too because he doesnt rely on pace.

only issue is he is a 1 game a week player....but that should be easy to work around.

never in a million years after his first season would i have thought i'd have grown to admire him as a professional as much as i had, and i would of laughed in your face if you told me he'd be making 300 apperances in a liverpool shirt.

well done for proving the doubters wrong, lad. i'm not sure how long he's got left at the club (i'm presuming a move to gremio would be most likely, similiar to agger) but it'll be sad when he goes. i do think however the summer might be time to 'upgrade' on him.
