But if there was a large majority of will from the people - could they change the constitution? Has the constitution ever been changed before?

Another Hypothesis, if Hillary wins, the Democrats get a majority in the House/Senate - would she have the will to take this on, if so how far could she go?

Yes, changes have been made. They're called Amendments.

Last texts a lad sent his mum when he was trapped in the toilets before getting shot. Heartbreaking

I don't know what's affected me more: the content of those texts or the response from several twitter trolls. There are some absolutely terrible people out there.

Watch this public meeting with Obama a couple of weeks ago... It's astonishing, he's talking about gun control.  It's spookily prescient of what just happened.

Where's it say that? I saw that he was pro-IS, but didn't see them taking responsibility as of yet.

Also, one of the guns he used was purchased recently at a local gun shop. He had been investigated by the FBI for possibly having ties to Islamic Extremism, but they found no solid evidence to put him away. So of course he's just able to freely walk into any gun store and legally purchase a weapon. Fucking hell.

They changed it for the Bill of Rights which included the 2nd Amendment. That's why it's called an amendment. They changed it to introduce prohibition and then again to stop prohibition. They changed it to stop slavery and they changed it to allow women the vote. There's nothing to stop the 2nd Amendment being repealed.

Did you watch the Youtube clip? Obama was saying that known ISIS sympathisers can be put on a no-fly list and banned from flying but even though the FBI know they are a sympathiser and watch ISIS propaganda encouraging them to buy guns and kill Americans, because of the NRA they are free to walk into a gun shop and buy whatever guns and ammo they want.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

Perhaps even more heartbreaking is that America will mourn, they'll "reflect" but absolutely nothing will change and this will happen again. It might be in a different city, it might be a different group of people targeted, a different number of deaths but countless more innocent people will be murdered before America gets it's head out of it's arse and changes their gun laws, if they ever do.

Lots of "thoughts and prayers" by people in a position to try and make a change. But since most of them are getting funded by the NRA, that's never going to happen. @igorvolsky is calling out every politician bleating their "thoughts and prayers" on twitter and revealing how much $ they've gotten from the NRA over the years.

Disgusting isn't it? You know they'll absolutely zone in on the radicalist angle and ignore the fact that a man who was being investigated by the FBI could walk into a shop and easily buy automatic weapons without question or suspicion.

The UK has their fair share of problems, and there's a lot that we have and continue to get wrong, but gun control is undoubtedly something we have got right.

Yet another horrible story involving crazies and their liberal access to guns. My deepest condolences to the families of those that lost their lives.  The narrative already seems to be "Muslim terrorist seeks revenge on innocent Westerner's" which plays perfectly in to the GOP hands. The NRA are probably sitting there chuckling at how yet again they've managed to get away without any blame what so ever.

This will never stop, it's been going on for decades and will keep repeating itself and innocents will die. Utterly depressing stuff

If anyone takes all that sky fairy bullshit so seriously that they murder innocent people because of how they and some other oxygen thiefs [mis]interpret the fictitious rantings of one or more manipulative egomaniacs from history, then I'd say they were mentally ill to a certain degree.

It will never change, Gun culture, living with firearms is just so ingrained into American culture it's mindblowing to the outsider. I've gotten used to my friends in america receiving guns as gifts for christmas, birthdays etc. And whenever you try to get into a meaningful debate about gun control they'll have stories of a time when they or someone near to them has had to use their gun in a burglary or defending some other violent crime. They just wouldn't dare give it up when they don't trust the criminals or the authorities or the 'gooberment' to protect them.

The local Pride parade was today. Usually not my thing, but I was being tempted to go with some friends. Woke up and was too much of a wreck to comprehend the everything going on. The American version of the show "Queer as Folk", ended the series with the local gay club being being blown up by a hate group. I remember always telling my friends how unrealistic the ending was. No way that would ever actually occur in the US. Well ten years later, something even worse happened. In the show, they rebuilt the club and the community lived on. The community has been shit on enough throughout their entire lives and this won't keep us down.

I still cannot comprehend how there is still a segment of this country that doesn't see the problem. It isn't going away. Only getting worse every year with these mass murder body counts are growing larger. Disturbingly, it is almost inevitable something worse will happen in the next decade. They can tie this to ISIS or Islam as much as they want, but it doesn't change that this was an American, who massacred other Americans in an American bar, with a rifle purchased in America made by an American company.

Yep. The USA has got a president who genuinely cares and he is going to be gone soon. this is just another massive step backwards if Trump wins.
Obama quiet rightly highlighting gun control and refusing to give these lone psychos the glory of being called a IS terrorist. he is a bitter sad loner. put that in your news.
Trump knows exactly why Obamas refusing to make this sad ba.. into some IS militant martyr, he is shamelessly playing politics. his irresponsible behaviour just encourages other loners to become a martyr as well.at the expense of many more innocent USA lives.

The Santa Monica police chief has said the man has now admitted that he was seeking to do harm to people at the Pride event:

Fifty dead. Fifty people murdered in cold blood because of who they love. Madness. Absolute madness. What a horrible fucking day.

Also, Donald Drumpf can get to absolute fuck, the shameless cretin. It's beyond belief what that gobshite of a man comes out with, it really is. If this was an Islamic extremist then it needs to be talked about (and will be talked about) but "thanks for the congrats"? Fucking scumbag.

At the end of the day, you can be an Islamic extremist, a far right nationalist or a sad loser with serious mental problems. You're always going to hate society but having free access to guns instantly makes your hatred far, far more dangerous for everyone who has to share a society with you. That's the first thing that needs tackling but sadly I think we all know it isn't going to happen.

Its not just any guns, this assault rifle is capable of firing 9 rounds per second. The easy access to some of the deadliest weapons around is astonishing. If they don't want to ban guns, at least put some control on the deadliest weapons.

Probably been mentioned before, but worked fine for Australia.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/15/it-took-one-massacre-how-australia-made-gun-control-happen-after-port-arthur

It wasn't a sacred amendment in Australia though ... and I could imagine there being a lot of resistance if someone tried to take away someone's gun in the U.S.

Either way, you've got to start somewhere

There are 24 million people in Australia. The National firearms agreement in 1997 saw 1 million guns turned in/bought back.

There are 320 million people in the United States. There is estimated to be over 357 million guns in the country.

I agree that we have to start somewhere, but it does the conversation little good when countries like Canada and Australia get thrown into it. "It worked for them," doesn't take into account that they're not the US; that they don't measure in either population or in the history of the gun.

I also agree with the need to have tighter controls on assault rifles. The NRA claims the A-R 17 is for hunting and home defense. Who the fuck hunts with an A-R 17? And what are you hunting? Besides humans?
Oh, these sour times.

No one admires resilience when you were just plain wrong all along - that's just twattishness.
