Schweinsteiger, Depay, potentially Schneiderlin and Darmian who looked good the two times ive seen him look on the face of it great business. I think they will challenege for the league.

Yeah they definitely only looked a couple of players off last season when they finished 17 points from Chelsea.

.

Those four or so players will help bridge that gap and apparently they will be expecting another defender and striker to that.

Agree with this.
If his filosofee is properly understood and he gets Schneiderlin + 1 more up top then I think they'll be a force next season. A lot will obv depend on the DeGea / replacement DeGea situation, but he's making better use of the cash this year.

They have signed 3 of them though so far though, and haven't signed a striker or a centre half, so it's shitting yourself at something that may or may not happen. What happens if De Gea leaves? No impact?

I'm not saying they won't challenge by the way, but I don't get what would lead you to think they will challenge as it currently stands. What does Schweinsteiger give them that Carrick doesn't? Darmian is a good signing, but whatever anyone says, a right back isn't going to make a significant difference up to 17 points. So that leaves Depay, who is a top drawer signing admittedly.

They will more than likely throw money at it until they do challenge again, and you may well be right when August 31st rolls around, but not at this stage.

Im not shitting myself at the thought of them challenging. They could challenge along with us as well. I am just pointing out that on paper the signings seem really good and could help them be stronger from last season.

Not denying they could/should be stronger, but they were miles off a title challenge, almost as far as us. I would suspect a serious title challenge would be beyond both teams as it stands, certainly us, and probably them.

They've signed Schneiderlin now too.

Have always liked Schweinsteiger, and thought he was brilliant at the World Cup when he returned from injury. Germany went up a level with him in midfield. Don't know if he's able to play like that consistently after his injuries, I sure hope he can't, but if fit he surely improves them a lot? Regardless, it is a shame he went there, as I used to really enjoy watching him play.

Annoying this Schneiderlin thing.

The one Saints player (Who is a LFC fan) that would have suited us down to a tee and we didn't even inquire despite shopping down there 4 times in the last year.

They've got a pretty solid midfield there now: Herrera, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, & Carrick. Not to be sniffed at.

Add another striker and they'll have a very good squad as with the two midfielders they might just have enough to paper over the back line.

We need a couple of great signings now.

Not many goals in that midfield though.

It's functional and will be capable of controlling games. Mata, Depay, Rooney, & Di Maria's replacement will have enough goals. Herrera scores the odd few and Schneiderlin scored 5 last season.

Schweinsteiger and now Schneiderlin going to United. Sort out the keeper situation and get a striker and they are a serious threat to Chelsea. Although they hold the aces and it's way too early to predict anything.

Not many goals in that midfield though.

Schneiderlin and Herrera are both good for 5/season. Schweinsteiger as well.

If we get 10 goals from our 3 main midfielders (Milner/Henderson/Lucas (Can) ), I'd be pretty chuffed.

I'd personally prefer a Schweinsteiger/Carrick , Schneiderlin, Herrera midfield to a Matic, Cesc, Oscar one.

Have always been a fan of 3 all-rounders all capable of chipping in with goals AS WELL as defending, rather than specialists in each field (Creativity/DM).
That's why I loved Martinez-Schweini partnership in Bayern's treble winning season.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.
