They have so much money it's hardly worth worrying about. If we are to compete with them it must be by maximising what we have like when we challenged for the title. And by putting the bottom half of the table to the sword.

I'd bloody love them to get Cavani
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Cavani their main striker target.

Bloody hell, they are really going for it this window. If they get him I think they'll be challenging for the title.

Steady.

I remember saying something like that the time Spurs signed a bunch including Lamela.  :-[

Cavani has never convinced me he's any good, but his goal scoring record is outstanding. Can't argue with the numbers, but I remember him missing chance after chance for PSG when they got knocked out by Chelsea the season before last

Did you see him leading the line vs Chelsea this season with 10 men? He'll be a terrific signing for them unfortunately.

I laughed at my manc friends after their CEO promised big spending. I said that Glazers don't have money to invest and they are actually in financial trouble. It looked that way with their debt. Now I am left with egg all over my face and they laugh at me after every mega signing. I just call them new Chelsea.

It had always been assumed that RVP had suffered the most from Ferguson's departure and had really struggled to come to terms with his replacement (not the only one, brother).

Rio's post on FB about this has ratified those assumptions. Cheers for title no.20, Robin.

Guardian saying Cavani is key target.

They will swap Di Maria I suspect.
I'd be chuffed to bits if they get Cavani, massively overrated that bloke.

Honigstein's Schweinsteiger article for The Guardian is interesting, especially for Sammer's comments, which seem to suggest Bayern had little intention of offering a multi-year contract on hefty wages for a player who has spent the last three years repeatedly injured and will only decline even more. Schneiderlin is a top signing for them.

I think equally as important as signings this summer for Man U is the approach by Van Gaal.

Last season Man U have plenty of possession, but were slow and lots of the passes were with little attacking intent or purpose.  Think they need to show more urgency next season to break down opposition defences, especially without someone like De Gea to paper over some defensive cracks.

Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger completely transforms them IMO. If they end up getting Otamendi, I can see them challenging.

All top players who would be coming in to strengthen areas of weaknesses for them.

Have a quite good midfield now, something they never did have under Ferguson.

They are open to the idea of selling Di Maria though, but I guess a midfield of Schweinsteiger, Carrick and Schneiderlin will be very good for them, unfortunately.
Scholes and Keane weren't too bad...  ::)

Know what you mean though. They usually had functional mids and fullbacks and depended on their CB's and strikers to win them games.

They look good signings, anyone who denies that is lying...to themselves. Van Gaal wants to retire in a few years, this is probably his last gig and he wants to go out swinging (with the dicks).

I'd be worried about Cavani, I don't think PSG used him correctly, where Ibra was a big distraction. If United get good tempo and movement around him, he'd be good for 15-20 goals at least.

They will be weakened at goalkeeper hopefully but at the moment, there midfield has been significantly upgraded, which is a shame.

Can't argue with the signings. We all hope that Schweinsteiger is on the way down or that the others don't settle but no guarantees of that.

For me though, they are weak at CB, not enough depth at CF and hopefully will be losing 10 points straight off the bat by selling De Gea. They aren't gonna be far ahead of us, and hopefully not at all.

While the signings appear good on paper, it really is the above comment which will determine whether they're successful or not.  Will be interesting to see how they're deployed and what formation they'll be playing in.

No doubt their best one this window.

Firmino should prove a superior acquisition to Depay, this year anyway. Darmian is incredible though, criminally underrated because he is a fullback at a modest club. For me, he is miles ahead of Clyne.

Agree with this. Firmino is currently better than Depay. Darmian is better than Clyne.

Obviously a lot will be depended on how fast they'll settle.

I don't know what people were expecting. This is the first time in three summers where their manager has been in place from the previous season, so they are able to look at their squad, decide what they need, identify players that they can sign to fill that need and have gone out and signed them. It's what they always used to do. in the summer of 2013 moyes took over in the middle of the summer, and they signed no-one until they got landed with fellaini. The following summer they essentially bought players at random, based on who jorge mendes could deliver (at exorbitant cost) and they wound up with a completely unbalanced and inadequate squad and wasted a lot of money. They need another three players, and they'll probably sign them. It's not particularly important that these players are already massively famous, just that they fit well with the managers plans. This is the proper way to do business. we've done something a bit similar this season with a number of our signings. But we need to do more, as do they. What they do is irrelevant to us to be honest. we're not in direct competition with them yet. We're still some ways behind that level, but hopefully we can bridge a chunk of that gap this season.

I know a few fellow Arsenal fans who will be gutted that Schneiderlin has gone elsewhere.

Man U do have other areas they need to address but I assume they still have money to attempt that, they have brought well so far this summer. Maybe the transfers will flop, no guarantees and all that, but Man U look stronger now then then they did last season, they have fixed some real weak points. Maybe not title challengers but I don't think they will have such a difficult year

Them and us both have managers with sizeable strengths and weaknesses and we would beat them if we have our mix of old and new players playing like a team sooner than them. Just hope our opening fixtures do not see us forced in to catch up between October and xmas. I would normally bet on us having the more gelled together team, but we are settling in a hell of  a lot of players already, with the potential for one or two more maybe. We should have the better goalie of the two teams, lets hope that is a 10+ pointer of a difference.
