we've been clear favourites for weeks, asks the bookies.

it's obvious we're better than everton, spurs and utd despite the naysayers and fear mongers on here.

who knows what's possible, nothing this team does surprises me any more.
third is certainly on, and if we can keep in touch with chelsea and city and beat them at Anfield, they might start feeling the pressure.

I really hope people don't start talking about title challenges now. Never works out well for us. I would be ecstatic with a 4th place finish and even that is possibly going to go right down to the wire.

As far as I'm concerned, if we can come through March having played Untied and Spurs, with a 6 point gap, we can then start looking above as our goal difference is currently worth an extra point.

Feel like we've been here this season several times already, getting closer to the top three and away from the pack only to drop points and have the teams below us start breathing down our necks again.

It's simple. Performances like today against opponents like Arsenal are huge, but they still just award 3 points for it. Climbing the table is about every week consistency.

Our remaining away fixtures: Fulham, Southampton, Man United, Cardiff City, West Ham United, Norwich City, Crystal Palace. It's about getting maximum points from these if we want to compete for the title, and the majority of points if we want to be head-and-shoulders above our top 4 competition.

It seems Brendan may have finally realised this, judging by his interview today.

I just might prefer an Everton win. Don't think they have enough anyway, but a draw or a Spurs win would do as well. We've done our bit and it was a hard bit.

After 5-1 vs Arsenal, I'd say it's up to us. We have the quality. Can we bring it out for enough games? If we can, we could fight for the one position everyone wants.

6 points off top it looks like with both City and Chelsea to come to Anfield.  If we sorted out our away form there's still enough games left for it to get interesting at the top.

Man City just drop 2 more points.  So now we are 4 points behind City, 5 behind Arsenal (who are sure to capitulate) and 6 points off the leaders Chelsea. We still have Chelsea and City to come at home. We have a real chance of getting the title this season.

Really, we should have been much closer if not for some really poor results.

If we want a serious push onwards, we're going to need some luck in the form of healthy players. If we can have our depth of midfield and defense restored and Sturridge stays healthy I think anything is possible.

On the positive side a lot of the players who've been out injured will be returning over the next week or two, and of course there's no Europe to worry about, which may affect the three teams above us.

Optimism abounds after today.  Well until the next game anyway lol

Honestly, if you had asked me before the last two matches if I'd take 4 points, I most definitely would have taken it. It works out well for us that we took maximum from the gunners. Keeping with our 2 points per a game output is really something to build on.  Wouldn't mind us storming up the table though... ;)

6 points off the top. I think it's a good idea that Rodgers has "written off" our title chances and letting the results do the talking. Still worried about our defending especially against lower teams. Also at least twice we almost undone from our own set-pieces today. But if we continue playing this, we'll give everybody a bloody good game.

You think a 3 point gap with 13 games to go makes 4th a certainty?

We're slight favorites. Nothing more at this stage.
We're far more than slight favorites for anyone who counts anything other than the pure points on the board. First of all, 3 points is actually a big gap at this stage of the season. Historically very few teams make up that gap toward the top of the table. Secondly, and more importantly, our performances by any measure blow away those below. We're simply a better team than them.

You need consistency though. As long as we are averaging more than 2 points a games there is a chance, but we got to depend on other results as well.

To look at it realistically, if we won all 13 of our remaining games we'd be on 89 which is the total that has won the league the last 2 years. Obviously we can't expect that. A lot of titles have been won in the mid to early 80s though. Can we drop less than 10 points for the remainder of the season?

I know we were 5-0 up but thats another sloppy goal conceded... for me that Gerrard tackle is just as poor as Toure's mis-pass against West Brom.

If we could cut that shit out we would definitely be in the conversation for the title. Hopefully our back 4 coming back will help us cut some shit out, though that tackle apart we were excellent defensively today.

Until Utd is out of the CL our target should be the Top 3.  I would hate to finish 4th and see the Mancs win the CL to bump us out.  While it is a long shot it is not unheard of for a new mangager with a struggling team to go on and win the damn thing.

We can get third. Arsenal will fall away. All we need is for the mancs to fluke a draw and voila, 3 points gap with them having CL to deal with. We can definitely get third and gain automatic qualification.

There are 3 teams above us, there is every chance that even Man city and Chelsea could be pulled back into the scrap or caught, especially after drawing to Norwich and West ham respectively ... Those results and Arsenal's loss have almost negated our draw to WBA. We cannot take any team in the league for granted

I've always thought Arsenal would get pulled back into the fight for 4th, and that we'd nip them to 3rd. Realistically though, City and Chelsea have massive squads full of quality and should pull away more between now and the end. If they do drop silly points like City did today though then we could definitely keep within touching distance.
