The Amazing Coutinho
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:17:40 am »
The best thing about Liverpool FC in the last two to three months has been Phil Coutinho, and there is no active topic on him. Please mods, let this be.

The guy is an awesome talent, even better once you review some of his passes which didn't lead to a goal. He has the kind of vision at times, which is not just uncommon, but also rare. Some of the low dinked balls were simply stunning. At times, I felt the runners didn't have a clue how the ball would reach them, and hence didn't make a real effort, and yet the ball was slid through for someone to just tap it in past the keeper.
I am already looking forward to his play next season. He can only get better, which is brilliant. I always knew he was good, but somehow, in the premier league, with the added tempo, his game just sparkles through. The runs are faster, purposeful. Single-minded, almost numb defenders are there for the taking, and Coutinho made some of them look real slow. I still can't stop giggling, when I remember Walker's face when Coutinho, dragged a high ball out of air, held himself against Walker's wrestling, then did the Samba backheel to an oncoming Enrique. That was priceless.
Anymore such moments, from the Amazing Coutinho's short spell here, please add.
Hats off to Bill on his throne,
He set the club's standards in stone.
Navigating the storm,
Is the Liverpool norm,
You'll never walk alone!

One of my favourite pieces of play by him was his run, before the drink through two defenders for Sturridge to score against Newcastle.

It was brilliant, because first he dispossessed his man, and then he had to take on a defender whilst waiting for Sturridge to catch up. He did it brilliantly, repeatedly feinting and changing his body direction, so that the defender had to keep changing which shoulder he was looking over (whilst running backwards), and Coutinho found the space for the dink as a result of the gap between the defender running backwards, and the second defender moving towards the ball.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPCcwVtuGJs It's around 2:10. The camera angle isn't the best but it was brilliant work. This guy is a genius.

I was close to saying that one but I went for the Newcastle one as it made the chance so easy for Sturridge and Henderson whereas Sturridge still had a bit to do against Fulham with the keeper coming at him

It takes a lot of discipline to talk about Coutinho without going into superlatives, he is a phenomenal player, has a scary amount of potential and the price we got him at was simply day light robbery.

It seems that his best position is number 10, both for himself and for the team, it allows us to get the most out of his close control, ability to hold possession and creativity. Everything you would want from a number 10, he's shown he is capable of holding off players in tight situations and coming away with the ball or somehow popping a pass out.

It's incredible that he is only 20 years old, in the time it has taken him to break through at Inter, then fall down the ranks and join us, it seems like he's been around for forever. Philippe is one of those players you look forward to watching and I can't wait to see how he gets on next season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him, in a world cup year, step it up a few more notches.

Oh god Poulsen.....I thankfully forgot that he played for us untill today.

On topic though the guy is a quality little player, the way he passes is just sublime at times and his attacking runs are mesmeric with the way he twists and turns. I was talking with my dad about him the other day and we both agreed that he could be the difference for Liverpool next season.

Seems like the complete package but he's still young, and young players suffer dips in form at times. I just hope Liverpool fans will remember just how good he can be when it happens.

You'd think I wouldn't have to say things like this, but I remember earlier in the season, people were arguing about whether Luis Suarez is a good player, or so selfish and tunnel-visioned that he's useless in a team game, so...

Don't think it's a coincidence that many of his fantastic through balls have all been away from home. Fulham, Newcastle, Wigan, Aston Villa: all of those resulted in a goal. Now that's not to suggest he hasn't done it at home, it's just away there is much more space for him to operate and the play is much more stretched.

At Anfield of course teams are more compact and generally play for a draw, well about 70 percent of sides. So we haven't seen him play as well at Anfield as he does on the road. It's not a worry though, he'll adapt and find space in time, he's classy enough to do it. We've genuinely got a superstar on our hands here lads and lasses. If we would of paid £25 million for this kis nobody would be complaining. Great signing by Brendan and at a price that should constitute to robbery. Just hope we sign one or two more of his ilk.

Looking forwards to seeing him develop next season. His link up play with Sturridge and Suarez has been excellent. In fact the three of them  are as good as any three in the EPL.

Coutinho is one of the most exciting young players in the league and when he runs with the ball he looks the real deal.

The kid does make grown men dream about the possibilities, I'll pathetically admit.
Was in a restaurant in Miami yesterday and got the Brazilian waitresses' take on the pronunciation of his name (sounded like "coach-een-yo" to these ears)

Feel a bit for those Inter fans. Can't think of a parallel as a player, but if we sold some young talent (eg, Suso) and were watching 4 months of highlight reels like Mostar's (and the others), LFC supporters would be a bit "disheartened", I'd reckon.

With my fiancee' on the beach, smoking a cigar, drinking a beer, looking at the waves and the ocean horizon and thinking "Coutinho..." ;)

We've absolutely robbed Milan.

Watch this:

Everything he does in that video is top quality. It's hardly like those moments are cherry-picked either- he does it all the time. His assists tally next season will be ridiculous.

Yeah, was adamant Alvarez would be sold first. (Still there) Meaning Coutinho wouldn't leave.(He's gone) Was adamant he wouldn't go for less than 12 mil sterling. (8.5) They we're getting Paulinho too (never happened).
Also came out with some 'Liverpool are me second team' bollix. Reading his posts on that FIF tells a different story
