That performance by Wales was right up there with the best I've seen in the 6N – possibly as good as England's demolition of Ireland in Dublin in 2003. They were superior in pretty much every department, and at least a poor tournament started and ended with some good rugby. Fair play, no complaints.
As for the Steve Walsh row - mixed feelings for me. The English get slated whatever they do, so any bad press is water off a duck's back. And Walsh should be slated at any and every opportunity - he's an appalling ref, and his anti-English sentiment is so well known it's always a surprise to see him officiating our games. I'm happy to see him hauled before the IRB.
But Clive Woodward could have been reffing that game on Saturday and Wales would still have walloped us. This could and probably will look like sour grapes, when it should in fact be seen as a valid complaint about a poor referee. Time and a place…
That result aside, this is the worst 6N I can remember, and as for the Lions, this will be the weakest 15 I've seen, going back to 1989.
England probably finished where they should have done. Wales are the better side, and given that England are away to Italy, Scotland and France next year I could see them dropping down the table, especially if France sort their selection out and Ireland don't get battered by the same kind of injuries.
