loved it , an experienced good Welsh team beating a young and inexperienced team from England who will be good, best performance off the six nations when it mattered most, Welsh front row put on some show of strength.

Gotta love these cycles in Rugby. The Welsh did to the English what the English did to the All Blacks and what the All Blacks did to the Welsh before the All Blacks met the English.

http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/rugby-victory-was-planned-to-make-wales-feel-good-about-itself-2013031863014

Rugby 'victory' was planned to make Wales feel good about itself 18-03-13

ENGLAND deliberately lost the Six Nations to Wales as part of a plan to boost the smaller country’s morale, it has emerged.

This is bigger than Tom Jones
Even better than being in a choir

Wales’s victory caused an upsurge in national pride for a country embattled by unemployment, inhospitable weather and the literary trend for shit books about talking dragons.
However excessive gloating by Wales fans caused England sources to reveal that they weren’t actually trying.

Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “I had spoken with David Cameron who said it was time we did something nice for the Welsh, apart from filming Doctor Who there.
“He said he wanted the people of Wales to feel like they lived in a proper country and not just a Tolkeinesque tourist attraction.
“He showed me some pictures of Welsh children, their tears had made clean streaks on their coal-smeared little faces. I knew then we had to do something.”
Television footage of the match has since revealed England players deliberately fumbling the ball while using the phrase “oops, butterfingers”.

David Cameron confirmed: “We just wanted the Welsh to feel special for once.
“Unfortunately they got a bit carried away and ruined it. I hope they won’t be too devastated that their moment of glory was a pity-inspired travesty.
“I think Wales is great. I had some lamb from there once, it was very juicy.”

That performance by Wales was right up there with the best I've seen in the 6N – possibly as good as England's demolition of Ireland in Dublin in 2003. They were superior in pretty much every department, and at least a poor tournament started and ended with some good rugby. Fair play, no complaints.

As for the Steve Walsh row - mixed feelings for me. The English get slated whatever they do, so any bad press is water off a duck's back. And Walsh should be slated at any and every opportunity - he's an appalling ref, and his anti-English sentiment is so well known it's always a surprise to see him officiating our games. I'm happy to see him hauled before the IRB.

But Clive Woodward could have been reffing that game on Saturday and Wales would still have walloped us. This could and probably will look like sour grapes, when it should in fact be seen as a valid complaint about a poor referee. Time and a place…

That result aside, this is the worst 6N I can remember, and as for the Lions, this will be the weakest 15 I've seen, going back to 1989.

England probably finished where they should have done. Wales are the better side, and given that England are away to Italy, Scotland and France next year I could see them dropping down the table, especially if France sort their selection out and Ireland don't get battered by the same kind of injuries.

Agree on both counts. Walsh is shit, but it made no difference, Wales were by far the better team on the day

Please can someone explain to me (as a part time armchair rugby fan) what was allegedly wrong with the turnover leading to Wales' first try.  Also, what was wrong with the refereeing of the scrum and breakdown in general?

The media's reporting of the complaints the English coaching staff have made is rather incomplete.  As I've never played Rugby, and only watch the 6N and the WC, I haven't got a clue what they are going on about.

Ummm, basically it happened to England and cost them a try.....

The same for the scrum and breakdown - just because it was happening to England.

Seriously, there wasn't much wrong with the turnover and Walsh got most of the scrum calls right. Even Jeff Probyn was on the radio saying that the English scrum got destroyed and that Walsh was almost always correct. There are always going to be a few judgement calls that could go either way but when one team is so obviously dominant, they will usually go the way of the dominant team.

Thanks.  I get that they are moaning because they lost, but I don't know what they think they saw.  Was it a player entering a ruck from the side, or an offside etc?

they arent moaning because they lost, the coaches have admitted wales would have beaten them even if Walsh played fair. Arrogant welsh fans in here not a surprise :) like the bloody mancs.

The problem is with what Walsh told them how they were going to operate beforehand and then did it completely different in the game. For example the Wales scrum always pushing before being allowed to do so giving them an advantage. Rowntree needs to know if there's going to be consistency in officiating, even moreso as the Lions scrums could get fucked like that too

I didn't think that the ref got much wrong in that match and it's a bit unfair to pick holes in his performance with the benefit of a frame-by-frame analysis later on.

I don't see what asking for clarification from the IRB will do when each referee interprets things in a slightly different way anyway. That's supposed to be part of the game, working out what you can and can't do on the day, not trying to stick to a plan and then moaning afterwards. There is so much that can change once the game kicks off, the state of the pitch etc.

It won't affect the Lions that much because that front row will be Welsh  ;)

The English scrum legend Jeff Probyn said any discussion before the match about how the scrums were to operate was rendered useless after Adam Jones destroyed Joe Marler.
Wales did not push before being allowed to do so giving them any advantage. Wales simply hit with more power and better technique and the young English front row had no answer to that. Dan Cole hits down and tries to drop if he doesn't win the hit but Gethin Jenkins always got under him and prevented him from doing so - Cole had no answer. Hibbard is a monster hooker and could probably play at prop if he wanted to and Adam Jones is the best TH in NH rugby so Marler was always going to struggle. However, in some 4-7 years or so, once that English front row become seasoned veterans they will do the same thing to opposition front rows with less experience.

Show me where Welsh fans are being arrogant?

Why was there a problem with the turnover for the first try?
