  • Frankly my dear...
To be honest I guess it will, as a football fan though I would like to see the likes of Suarez & Gerrard grace our turf, not like it's ever likely to happen again,  thought they where awesome last night, actually wasn't good to watch from a stags fan point of view, they looked lethal.

Great to have you lads on here and a good intro. Hope you have fantastic day!(minus a win of course ;))

I don't think you'll have to worry about not seeing Luis. He's fecking resilient and robust; and will most likely feature for us. If nothing else, just to start getting him and Danny playing together. This is going to be the perfect opportunity for us all.

the magic of the fa cup is all about this ....away games at lower league teams, who can give it a go and make a name for themselves
if you get knocked out,you take it on the chin and congratulate the smaller club...thats whats brilliant about the fa cup
loved it as a kid as much as i love it now
buzz off it when united and chelsea and any other big name get knocked out by a smaller club and wouldnt have it any other way

feel for mansfield when hearing about getting milked by greedy chairman...jeezus it was happening to us a few years ago...so i wish them luck for the rest of their season and would love them to get back into the bigger leagues with promotion ,hope they have a great memorable day and obviously and hope we win
maybe a draw and them getting another game at anfield would be great for them...what a day out for their fans...and they would be welcomed too
ok its another game for us but not the end of the world and may even advantage a few

some good posts from the stag lads, thats what you call  proper football fans....i don my cap in their direction.....maybe a few of ours should sit up and take note?

In MLS, the Open Cup competition isn't that prestigious, but in order to help fund it, they let teams basically buy home field advantage. Personally I think it's pretty corrup and reply favors the 3-4 sides that really take the competition seriously. I'm glad the FA doesn't allow team to do similar with the FA Cup and the League Cup.

If Rodgers deems the pitch good enough to risk him on, I'd love to see Suarez play wide for this one with Sturridge through the middle to give it a go before United, where I think we might give Luis a go wide left.

Mansfield Town boss to marry girlfriend before FA Cup tie with Liverpool

The biggest moment in the life of any lower league football manager is invariably the third round of the FA Cup. If they can guide their men through the opening few matches of the tournament, these plucky bosses earn the chance to take their tiny clubs up against the finest players in the country.

For Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox, that moment came into view at the end of last year when his men beat Lincoln in a replay to earn an almost unbelievable glamour tie against Liverpool. That game takes place on Sunday.

Yet for Cox, the clash will not even be the biggest day of his weekend: the 40-year-old is to marry his girlfriend at the club's training ground on the Friday before the big match!

After drawing their second-round match against Lincoln 3-3 and a clash against Liverpool promised to whoever won the replay, Cox promised his girlfriend he would marry her before the match should his side make it through.

They won 2-1, and Cox stayed true to his word: the wedding will be exactly 48 hours before the match, which coincidentally falls on the day of Cox's 41st birthday.

Cox said: "Apparently I agreed to get married if we beat Lincoln [City] in the Second Round.

"I don’t know how it came about, but after the win, Carolyn [Radford, CEO] and the chairman were congratulating me and said that they were looking forward to the big day – the wedding.

He added: "So the wedding is tomorrow and there’ll probably be one or two more cameras there now, but it’s something I’ll embrace and cherish."

A club spokesman added: "It's going to be a big three days for Paul!"

Funnily enough, it's not the first time that the top brass at Mansfield Town have hit the headlines over their romantic entanglements. In 2011 the club became world famous after employing a 29-year-old blonde - a former escort by the name of Carolyn Still - to become its CEO two years ago.

Still and multi-millionaire club chairman John Radford denied that she had been given the job for anything other than professional reasons. Two weeks later, Still became engaged to Radford; they got married last July.

Cheers ashleyrose for the preview, and nice to see some Stags' support adding to it as well. Whatever the result, good luck to them on getting promoted and moving on under their new owner.

Certainly give Sturridge a start in this one. Hopefully be able to rest our key players, namely Suarez and Gerrard. You look at this and you'd think we'd easily beat them, but just remember the Arsenal-Bradford game. These teams can be quite good, despite being in lower leagues. Give some of the lads that haven't had a start in a while a chance, but make sure that they don't come out over-confident. Really excited to see Sturridge in his first game for us. Can't wait for this one  ;D

Think we'll play a stronger team than most are suggesting. Suarez to start along with Sturridge.
Football without fans is nothing.

Hi, stag in peace here.

Obviously looking forward to the game on Sunday, it's a game we start with nothing to lose and everything to gain, best scenario for us without doubt would be sneak a draw and have a great pay day out for the club at your place.

The pitch isn't great at the moment, but forecast is to stay dry between now and the weekend, it's not the worst pitch you will ever see normally looks a picture and one of the better surfaces in this god forsaken league we find ourselves in, however after the wettest year on record it's suffered, remember we are non league so budgets are not quite the same down here in the bowels of football.

It's going to be a great day for the long suffering diehard stags fans, we suffered years of abuse by a chairman whom milked the club for every penny he could culminating in our relegation from the football league, goggle Mansfield & haslam, you will find the history behind it.

Our team, on paper a very strong BSP side,( started the season as a bookies favourite for automatic promotion) this season we have only seen minor glimpses of what on paper they should be capable of, I hope they turn up Sunday and don't roll over, not going to come on here giving it the big one, in reality we don't stand a chance but stranger things have happened ?  What we don't want is a cricket score.

It's a big day for us, call it our cup final, defiantly going to enjoy it, it's pay back time for all those miles put in following your team through very little thick and plenty of thin over the 40 years I've been following the stags.

For those that travel have a safe journey and see you Sunday, let's have a great party atmosphere and enjoy, we can dream ?

Finally, may I pass on my respect to the 96 and their families.

Stag, good to see you in here, can you do me a favour and have a word with all your lads, dont boo Suarez because its the " in thing " to do, he isnt a racist, he is a wonderfully gifted footballer who you will love watching, plus if you boo him it gets him playing even better  ;)

I would play a similar team to the majority of our Europa matches therefore I wouldn't play Suarez in this one. He fully deserves a rest and with Man Utd next week its imperitive he's fully fit. All it'd take is one Mansfield defender who either wants to make a name for himself or is just too slow (lets face it most defenders in the world are) to deal with his movement an skill to go straight through him and he could miss the most important fixture for the sake of a cup game against a non-league side (pesimistic I know but sensible I reckon)

I'd have as few of the kids as possible in this game. If we did get knocked out it would shatter their confidence. And to be honest, a gang of non leaguers up for it like fuck in what to be honest is like a cup final for them is a very different proposition to a bunch of mercenary quims at QPR.

Welcome mate. :wave

No doubt your lot will be giving it everything. These games are rarely ever cricket scores. I'd be perfectly happy for us to win one nil in the last minute as long as it's not taken to a replay or an upset.
I don't think Rodgers takes any game lightly, we'll have the Europa League like mix of youth and experience I would expect. Carra will start and one of Henderson/Allen alongside Sahin I would guess. Hard to call as to whether Daniel Sturrdige will start, especially if the pitch is as you say but he's sure to appear at some point.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Thanks for the preview, their pitch looks awful doesnt it? hope the weather improves because a cut up pitch is not good for possession play.

Time for a sattapaal formation :)

                     Reina

Wisdom     Sktel     Coates      Robinson

                      Allen
         Henderson     Shelvey
Suarez                                   Downing
                   Sturridge

Think Reina to captain the side. Skrtel has slightly better pace than Agger, who needs a rest. Wisdom is fresh, Johnson needs a rest. Gerrard and Lucas definitely need rests. I think the key would be Shelvey in this "physical" game.

He will need to sit deeper, and pick passes out. Henderson will run around taking players with him, so gaps will open up between the lines, just need to get the ball to Suarez and or Downing (who can run forever).

No faith in Sahin in this game, its going to be physical, and he's going to have to be strong in the game if he plays (where i hope he doesnt).

Sterling on the bench, his speed and skill can take advantage of tiring legs in the final 20 minutes. If we're 3-0 up at half time, rest suarez and skrtel.
did you know that 10 x 2 and 11 x 2 have the same answer?

What do you mean whether he thinks the pitch is good enough.

There's guna be 11 players out there regardless if the pitch isnt good enough so its a bit disrespectful to say that it doesnt matter of those 11 were to get injured.

Especially the fact suarez is not in the slightest bit injury prone.

Suarez will play at least by coming off the bench.

If Sturridge fully fit? I'd say bring him off the bench.

Rest Suarez all together no need 2 play him at all save him for the united game.

A chance to rest some senior players and give some of the kids and fringe players (like Sahin and Coates) a chance to show off. Should only throw the like of Gerrard or Suarez on if we're still chasing a goal in the second half.

                 Reina
Wisdom Carra Coates Robinson
           Sahin Shelvey
                 Suso

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Allen, Ibe, Gerrard, Suarez, Yesil.

Welcome to Rawk. Who would you say are the main players to look out for from Mansfield mate?

Matt Green will be our main goalscoring threat up front. Scored 27 last season and will look for through balls and balls over the top where he can use his lightning pace.

Our centre backs Exodus Geohaghan and John Dempster giants and are always a threat from set pieces. Plus Exodus has a throw as long and as flat as Rory Delaps.

I'd also look out for our two wingers. Lindon Meikle on the left is a small tricky customer who runs at full backs for fun and if Louis Briscoe starts, it could go two of either ways. When he's hot, he'll smash in goals from 25-30 yards for fun. When he's cold, he'll give you the ball for fun.

Why I do fancy our chances if we can get some set-pieces around your box. It's probably the one area we have a chance of matching you. However, I doubt we'll get many chances. I can see this being a 70/75% + possession in your favour. Especially with the way Liverpool are closing down the ball as of late.

This will go one of two ways, we'll struggle as we often do against 'lesser' teams and end up going though after a replay or we'll dominate them from he off and smash 5 past them.
