For me  ;D

                              Jones

Wisdom         Carra         Coates     Robinson

Hendo                     Sahin                        Suso

               Assaidi       Sturridge     Downing
That's close to what I was thinking.
Swap Shelvey for Downing, Suso to the right, Assaidi left & Shelvey behind Sturridge.

Certainly one eye on the mancs a week later.

The mancs have a pretty tricky game against West Ham so can see them playing a few first team players. This is a chance to keep our players fresh and ready for Castle Greyskull

Personally I would wrap the main spine in cotton wool and let the kids/2nd string handle this match.

That means Pepe, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Allen, Gerrard and Suarez staying behind

Assaidi has made the Morroco squad for the Africa Cup of Nations so he wont be in the squad

Jones,

Wisdom, Carra, Coates (assuming he's not sold by then), Robinson

Henderson, Sahin (assuming fit), Downing

Suso, Pacheco, Borini (assuming fit)

Sturridge to come on for a bit in the 2nd half

That is a team good enough to beat Mansfield

Post on Stagsnet from Darren Shaw, Supporter Director, Stags Fans United
Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:07 pm

Good news. The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) have agreed to increasing the S Factor to 0.9 for the Liverpool FA Cup game only. However, some seats will have to remain empty as part of the club’s safety plan and so the maximum number of tickets to be sold for the Liverpool game will be 7,888 including the 1,400 Liverpool tickets. SAG have also given the club the go ahead for some additional corporate hospitality.

SAG will be monitoring the Liverpool game and so it will help the club to increase the capacity for the home game against Man Utd in the next round

if as many fans as possible remain seated and do not run on the pitch at the end of the game. It is also important to remain seated to be considerate to elderly and young fans who may not be able to see the game if fans stand up in front of them.
Gates should be open 90 minutes before kick off and so fans should arrive as early as possible to take up their seats and to watch Gerard, Suarez, Reina and Co warming up.

Well done to Paul, Tina, Carolyn and Alan for all their hard work to date.

Come On You Stags!

Expect 7-8 players to be rested too, though some of them are likely to be on the bench, just in case.

Sure to see the likes of Coates, Robinson, Sahin, Shelvey, Suso and Assaidi get a game.

If we play a composed passing game, we should dispose of these without breaking sweat.

Too many times in recent years we have taken lower division opponents lightly and been made to look arrogant, start the strongest team possible then bring on some o the younger lads if and when we are in a strong position, the first thing Mansfield and their fans want to see is no Gerrard or Suarez, what possible good it does youngsters to play in this when the world is waiting for us to fall flat on our arses i have no idea, i bet if you asked the whole team that played last night do they want to be playing on Sunday they would say yes

Should win this at a canter.Im from Mansfield so this is going to be a historic occasion for the Stags,a team who i also go to support occasionally. The pitch is like a bog at the moment though and last weeks game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.Theres talk in the local paper of a possible postponement if theres much more rain this week so fingers crossed.

By the way if anyone has any spares im looking for a couple or even a single ticket as ive not got one,so if anyone can help please pm me!!

I saw Mansfield play Dartford in the Blue Sq Premier in October. They're a pretty poor side based on that game, lacking any ambition what-so-ever, even against a newly promoted Dartford side (who won 2-0). It was real Allardyce era Blackburn stuff, every free kick pretty much anywhere outside their own box was an excuse to lump it into the opposition penalty area. They also have a player who throws the ball further than Rory Delap. Basically I would definitely go with Coates for this game as beyond the high ball they haven't really got anything much that can hurt us, even at Blue Sq level.

I would play a strong side, the FA cup is a unique fixture and upsets are common. We should manage the players better during the lg campaign if we are worried about their condition, this is our best chance of a trophy and we showed last season that with a strong side we can make finals.

So ashley does some research and puts together a really nice article on our opponents, and in two pages not one poster comments on the article? How depressing. Come on people, a few are making a huge effort to improve the content on the LFC forum and it would be nice if it was recognised.

I'm completely torn on this one. On the one hand we have a few players who haven't played for a while, and a core group of players who are at risk of fatigue if they keep playing so much, so a bit of rotation makes sense. On the other it would be nice to maintain the momentum from the last two games and potentially give Sturridge a game with the other potential first teamers so they can begin to gel.

I think in the end a mix of the two might be best, with the injury risks like Agger and Johnson getting a rest along with maybe Sterling as his recent rest has done him good. I can see the wisdom in giving Gerrard a break too, maybe for Sahin as it would be nice if we could get some more use out of him.

Nice in-depth preview about our opponents.

This could be a potential banana skin and we need to avoid complacency or we could slip up like we have previously against the likes of Luton, Barnsley and Havant and Waterlooville (even though we won).

Really nice intro, well done :)

Hope we can continue the good form going, it's finally looking like we're settling into Brendan's plan and a solid win here would ensure confidence is high before the tough set of matches that follow. Fingers crossed that Robinson and McLaughlin get a run out, both have deserved it, as has Pacheco  :)

I'd start Sturridge, try get him a goal early on, it's not as if he's going to play against Utd from the off so may as well, will also get him some much eneded match fitness, 2 birds 1 stone an all that.

I'd personally go with this team:

Reina
Wisdom - Carragher - Skrtel - Robinson
Allen - Henderson
Assaidi - Shelvey - Suso
Sturridge

Love the FA Cup.

Good write up once again from Ashley.

As for the game, first team please, hate these games, go in, play like fuck and just get the game won.
Only player I'd consider resting is Lucas.
13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.

Great intro! Pitch looks pretty shocking though :(

Really want a lot of our boys to get a rest, they need and deserve it, however I think BR will want to keep the train rolling.

The only 3 playes I'd really really like to see given a game are Pacheco, robinson and Coady. All have been tipped for loans so would like to get a decent look at what we are loaning out. Also they have all been performing great in the ressies. They also all play in positions that we need depth in so would be really really interesting to get a good look at them against the big boys.

Carra to be skipper, Sturridge to get some minutes

The weather forecast according to the BBC website is for no real rain between now and Sunday in Mansfield so hopefully it will go ahead as planned, allowing the pitch to dry out between now and then.
I have been to Field Mill in the 1980s to watch Rugby League and the stadium looked completely different then. There was a big grandstand that was bought from a horse racing course somewhere. Obviously they have rebuilt 3 of the sides now.

We have played Mansfield only twice before drawing 0-0 in a league cup tie in 1970, subsequently winning the replay 3-2 at Anfield.

Hopefully we can get the job done first time of asking on Sunday.

Thanks for the OP.

Pitch doesn't look great but then it doesn't appear to be a potato field either.
Just glad it hasn't been icy/snowing as that would've made it even worse.

One or two famous names turned out for them I see - inc Bobby Mimms who - if my memory serves me correctly - played in the 86 cup final.

Can't believe someone wanted to take the club over and rename it Harchester Utd !   ::)

An opportunity to provide some game time for some of the squad :

Mansfield Town boss to marry girlfriend before FA Cup tie with Liverpool

The biggest moment in the life of any lower league football manager is invariably the third round of the FA Cup. If they can guide their men through the opening few matches of the tournament, these plucky bosses earn the chance to take their tiny clubs up against the finest players in the country.

For Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox, that moment came into view at the end of last year when his men beat Lincoln in a replay to earn an almost unbelievable glamour tie against Liverpool. That game takes place on Sunday.

Yet for Cox, the clash will not even be the biggest day of his weekend: the 40-year-old is to marry his girlfriend at the club's training ground on the Friday before the big match!

After drawing their second-round match against Lincoln 3-3 and a clash against Liverpool promised to whoever won the replay, Cox promised his girlfriend he would marry her before the match should his side make it through.

They won 2-1, and Cox stayed true to his word: the wedding will be exactly 48 hours before the match, which coincidentally falls on the day of Cox's 41st birthday.

Cox said: "Apparently I agreed to get married if we beat Lincoln [City] in the Second Round.

"I don’t know how it came about, but after the win, Carolyn [Radford, CEO] and the chairman were congratulating me and said that they were looking forward to the big day – the wedding.

He added: "So the wedding is tomorrow and there’ll probably be one or two more cameras there now, but it’s something I’ll embrace and cherish."

A club spokesman added: "It's going to be a big three days for Paul!"

Funnily enough, it's not the first time that the top brass at Mansfield Town have hit the headlines over their romantic entanglements. In 2011 the club became world famous after employing a 29-year-old blonde - a former escort by the name of Carolyn Still - to become its CEO two years ago.

Still and multi-millionaire club chairman John Radford denied that she had been given the job for anything other than professional reasons. Two weeks later, Still became engaged to Radford; they got married last July.

Excellent article OP!

Don't think it's a risky a game as some people making it out to be, should be a good run out for the likes of Coady, Coates, Yesil etc. Was going to say Morgan but he's off to Rotherham.

I've also heard that the game could be off. I feel we should field a team of youth and experience but the game to bed by half time and make some subs.

This represents a real opportunity to win some silverware.

Good stuff ashelyRose-66.  Fortress Field Mill, heh.  7500 singing stag fans, should make for an enjoyable watch.  Roy Hodgson says we will be lucky to beat them, just kidding.

Interesting little fixture just ahead of the devils.  Also, don't we have a NextGen match coming up next week as well.  Obviously we will rest some of our first team regulars, but how weak of a team do we field with the idea that we can still win comfortably.

A few players seem obvious.  Jonjo needs the work and the confidence boost.  Think he gets a start.  Sahin would fall into the same category, but there are rumors abounding that he may be leaving us so there would be no need to get him fit.  Suso looks nailed on to get some work as well.  What do we do about Pacheco.  This game looks tailor made for him and Suso on the front line, but like Sahin, are we even still trying to develop him?  Does Sturridge get his first look in a red shirt?

I think Jones returns in goal.  Good chance to get him some live action.  The back four seem set on Wisdom, Carra, Coates and Robinson/McLaughlin.

I will hazard a guess:

                                 Jones

         Wisdom        Carra     Coates         Robinson

                                 Coady

                          Sahin         Shelvey

           Suso               Sturridge            Pacheco

The only question is the NextGen game.  Do we prioritize the FA cup or the NextGen series in terms of getting our youth/reserve some experience.
