Strange how another 10 or so other players couldn't show their quality against this poor opposition. One certain £35m star.
Too easy to play one player off from another over 45 minutes of preseason 'friendly' football. As a team(which is the important thing) they played well and got some important fitness in, in a tough encounter. Games in the bank, fitness up and move onto the next game I reckon and don't read too much into anything just yet.

on my feed john barnes stated that it is probabaly too late for him at liverpool and that the league won't afford him the time on the ball he had today.  hope that isn't true as he's perfect for the pass and move style we should be playing.

Looked like he was managing fine when he got into the team during 09/10?

Hope the lad stays, and that's not just based on a pre season kick about against a not so good team. The lad is a quality player who we should never have loaned out after we got him fit. Give him at least a season working with kenny and he'll have a lot of people eating their words.

Mixed half. With the type of player he is, he's always going to hold onto the ball a little bit longer than he should and sometimes it'll be to our advantage. Unfortunately, it wasn't for most of the first half today and wasn't for last season. Given the type of footballers that we have and the way I'd want us to play/the way we're looking to play, I don't think he'll fit in here and be a regular.

Cant argue with any of that to be fair.

Thing about midfield players is that they need playing time on the pitch. We have so many player's now fighting for those few positions I hope we don't keep chopping and changing. Find your best formation in midfield and stick with it. Aquilani/Lucas/Adam with Gerrard playing an advanced attacking position could also be an option. Both Adam/Aquilani's instinct to play the quick forward ball could really benefit Gerrard and Suarez.

If everyone's fit, you'd expect Lucas, Aquilani and Gerrard to be in there for sure.

Adams a decent player, but I don't think he's got the potential Aquilani has here. We need players like Adam in the squad (because firstly, injuries seem to hit our midfielders often and secondly Poulson is crap), but it's the Aquilanis who will make the difference when we come up against the top teams.

Bruckner needs to justify his position by keeping this lad playing and ready for the crunch games. There's enough depth to do it now.

Aquilani admirers weren't born from today's game of his. It was just another game for him when thrown in the more attacking positions. I'm sure that he has shaken the belief of the doubters and until and unless he goes to the level of being a crying baby to get out of Liverpool, there shouldn't be any reason for him not to get his mind and heart back at staying at Anfield.

And the inquisition begins on LFCtv..
He's not good enough in the tackle, pulls out of 50/50's too often.
He's not hungry enough.
Not battling enough unlike Adam.
Offers nothing defensively unlike Adam

And finally..
Cant see him being good enough to play in the PL. They reckon he would struggle to put passes together against Hull .. sigh

Whats all this talk about us signing 4 players this season, I'd say we've inexplicitly signed 6, Insua will prove to be a worthy addition to the squad.

And as for Aquilani, fuck me, feels like a brand new signing which will lift the whole team, made up we've got him and I fucking hate Roy for loaning him out to Juve and buying Poulsen, who knows where we'd of ended up last season with him in our ranks instead of that fuckwit.

They're talking shit about him on LFC tv again. What is this obsession with him 'winning 50-50s' when he can show the quality on the ball that he did today? If they didn't notice he was playing in attacking midfield, where his main job is not to win the fucking ball.

The fact is, Aquilani did very well in the first game too. So far, our best player in the pre-season. And why Juventus didn't buy him, is beyond me. It's a BLESSING for us, to actually fucking keep him this time.

Shame he doesn't understand that owners. simply have no place commenting on players on twitter. I would love to see the reaction if Abramovich was commenting on Twitter about Chelsea players during a Chelsea game.

It should be up to Kenny and Comolli whether a player stays or goes not the Chairman. Henry has completely undermined whoever agreed to sell N'Gog to Sunderland as well as putting totally unnecessary pressure on Comolli and Kenny to keep Aquilani.

I love Aquilani always have done but if Kenny is building a side to play in a way that doesn't require Aquilani or play in a way that suits Aquilani then I might not like it but it has to be Kenny's decision.

Henry shouldn't be going within a million miles of Twitter.

I think there is room for Aqua in the squad.

If we play with a 3 man midfield, i'd say Lucas and Spearing will stay in the squad as defensive midfielders. The 4 other midfielders could be Henderson, Gerrard, Adam and Aquilani.

Henderson could provide cover on the right if needed and Dirk could provide cover as centre forward. Suarez is capable of playing as a wide forward, goalkeeper and centre forward, Downing can play wide or as cover for the central midfield. Maxi can cover the wide forward positions or attacking midfield. It really is very versatile and provides a range of options.
That leaves big question marks over the futures of Raul, Ngog and Poulsen, and leaves opportunities to go on loan for Shelvey and Pacheco.

If he is prepared to be a squad player then he would be a great option to have in the squad.
