Do people actually think that in a European semi final, we should play knickers down, skirt up? This is a semi fucking final FFS - you respect your opponent, and the occasion and don't play gung ho football. We didn't and in all honesty should of walked out of that tonight with a draw and a score draw at that. Stop being self important over leveraged quims and analys every farts end.

Good night.

Spot on. Especially when Rafa has already come out and praised their ability on the counter. I'd have taken the result before  the game.

I said before the game that I thought it would be a difficult one. Have watched Atletico Madrid quite a few times this season. They are not fantastic, but they have qualities.
To lose 1-0 against them away is not a disaster. We're two goals away from the Final. We have 90 minutes to play, at home. Still pretty good odds.

That was a disgrace. Tonight I have finally changed my view of Rafa. Atletico are a piss poor side and were there for the taking. Benfica were much better than these infact!

We could have easily won this game by two or three goals tonight. Tottenham, Man City or Villa probably would have beaten them tonight (not even going to go as far as saying what United or Chelsea would have done to them). Even we would have beaten them with a manager deploying semi positive tactics. This negativity is not the Liverpool Football Club way.

Bringing on shite like El Zhar when we've got a £20m midfielder sat on the bench doing F.A., a decision almost on par with taking Torres off at Birmingham, just about sums Rafa up.

Rafa you seem a great bloke but you're negative tactics have got the better of me one too many times. I'm still confident of reaching the final as I don't see these posing too many problems at Anfield but as for Rafa I think he's taken the club about as far as he can.

Spurs, Man City or Villa wouldn't have got this far in a European tournament. Simple as that.

As for should've brought Aquilani on, I don't recall seeing him ever playing on the wing or up front, which is where the substitutions were made. Like it or not we were playing away from home so you have to protect the defence. Aquilani playing in centre-mid wouldn't have provided the same protection as Masch and Lucas. I don't think that can be denied by anyone, even those of you that like to moan for the sake of moaning.  Next time Aquilani starts a game in midfield, watch how many times he leaves whoever he is playing with on his own in midfield to join the attack. That is suicidal away from home in Europe and you know it.

Something's wrong. We beat Everton away this season and deep down there was this nagging feeling for me..."that was fucking awful football". Unbelievable really. Now I'm depressed by our performances and embarrassed by the fact we might stumble into the final. We're are rubbish and the Europa Final won't paper over that fucking huge crack. There's no point avoiding it.

Absolutely.

End of the day, the Europa League will be nice and that but it wont make for a succesful season. Nor will it be something to build on. We're a seriously bad football side without Fernando Torres in our team and until we devise a way to play without him or find a suitbale replacement for him, it aint going to get better any time soon.

I always felt last season that our team was dependant on 3 players for it to be ticking. Alonso, Gerrard and Torres. If we had 2/3 you'd still feel confident and could see us play well.  1/3 and we struggle badly.

Well this season we've had to deal with Alonso leaving with is replacement not playing and Torres being injured for so long. Leacing the whole thing on Stevie's shoulders, while he's been woefully out of form. We can still turn it on if those 2 are on the pitch together, but for the large part we're absolutely woeful. We may have a good performance once in a while with only one of them playing, but for the large part we have not learned how to play wihtout Xabi, and still have no plan B for when Torres is out.

Until we do, we'll keep heading backwards.

Atletico has an extremely shite defence and Nando would have a field day against them but we're without him in the second leg as well. I really don't know who would be best to lead the line at Anfield.

Then again,Liverpool is all about winning things in the toughest way possible.

history is repeating itself for us to win this, last time Bayern knocked United in the quarters of the CL was in 2001 and they won the CL(they're looking good for the final this year too) and the same season we won the UEFA Cup(not to mention the fact that whenever we beat Benfica in an europaean competition we ended up winning that competition) so don't worry lads,it's Bayern-Liverpool in the Supercup in Monaco in a few months. ;)

Not got a good feeling about the home leg, we've battered Lille and Benfica but can we do it again?? It will be tough, probably tougher than a lot of people seem to think. If they score we could be screwed.

About tonight, I thought it was satisfactory by our away standards. But that's not saying much. Not adventurous enough and far, far too negative. As usual away from home.

Still, we've got a good chance.

Satisfactory? my god, how standards have dropped. It was a fucking spineless and dire performance lad.

Yeah and he's gotten older and has been injured this season. One bad season and he gets targeted by certain fans.

The age thing doesn't carry any weight for me, he's only what, 29/30??  at his footballing prime in my opinion.  The injuries have been a factor true and the loss of fitness that goes with that.

All that aside, I don't think any of that has got to do with why he's become a target.  I think it all has to do with effort, body language and his captaining.  That is, his apparent lack of effort, his piss poor body language and his seemingly invisible captaining.

Oh fuck it then, we may as well forget ever attacking a side away in Europe then. That is exactly our problem, we're too worried about the opposition.

Another poor performance. How anyone can say we play good football is beyond me. I'll re-itterate - WE PLAY ABSOLUTLEY DIRE FOOTBALL.

That's a very poor Atletico team too, and they lost 3 on the bounce before beating us. We didn't even have a shot on goal. Reyes looked like fucking Messi out there.

Seriously though, there's a Disposable Heroes lyric that says "Maybe the mother of our nation should remind us that we're sitting too close to the television"; well likewise, somebody (maybe Kenny) needs to remind our fans that they're turning into a bunch of spoilt brats.

European semi finals don't fucking grow on trees. Here's me, what - 36 years old? I've personally only been to 2 European semi finals and 1 European final, and only one of those games has involved Liverpool. And I'm 36. Is it because I'm older than your average Rawkite?

It was clear that we needed someone in the centre of midfield that could get us playing.

Instead of subbing Lucas for Aquilani or dropping Gerrard into centre midfield, our manager decided to bring on El Zhar.

Being disappointed isn't not supporting the team.

Sorry mate, what I'm getting at is there seems to be a growing contingent waiting to, and enjoying, giving it the 'I told you so' type of post.  It winds me up, and I can't help it - especially when something isn't over.  That, IMO, is not supporting the team.  We can agree to disagree if you like.
