Blood and Sand is the main series, Gods of the Arena is a prequel and was made because Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) was having treatment for cancer. The second season of BaS should start in a few months.

I'd recommend watching BaS and then GotA. BaS is excellent although there's a couple of duff episodes at the beginning, so it takes a while to get going. GotA isn't quite as good but once you've watched BaS you'll be happy for something to tide you along before Blood and Sand starts again.

Much appreciated mate thanks

A definite hit for me. It was typical Spartcus, typical hamburger television. Too much slo-mo, high melodrama, lots of stuff being set up for the coming episodes. The new Spartacus looks the part and acts as Andy would, but I am stuck on his voice. There isn't the same gravitas, but I'll get used to it.

Speaking of Andy; I was expecting something at the start, and there was nothing. Unusually for me, I left it on during the end credits, and am glad I did as the tribute was after those.

A picture of him with the words

Andy Whitfield

1971-2011

A champion on screen,
a legend in our hearts.

Very nice and entirely appropriate.

Was nice to see he was remembered, I waited through the credits since like you mentioned there was nothing at the beginning. It was a nice simple tribute. He will be missed!!

Looking forward to seeing this as starts tonight here in Ireland. Loved the previous two shows and shocked to hear Andy did pass away as missed that news last Sept. May never win a screem writers award but some classic one liners great action and just a good old romp.

10pm TV3 I think but check your guide to be sure

Felt like the episode tried a bit too hard. Slow-moing the fighting, which was nowhere near the shows best, overly dramatic dialogue, blood over screen as many times as possible and the brothel scene. The cast in the rebels camp didn't put their best performances on and Liam McIntyre did alright but couldn't quite make the dialogue work for me, enjoyed the stuff with Team Awesome/the Romans rather more. Usually this show doesn't start to well then really picks up as it goes along and there is a lot of things in the two camps that look like it could be very intresting. I hope they flesh out the cousins of Sextus a lot more in the next few episodes

It was like the very first episode in those regards. They then toned it down, and hopefully will again.

It wasn't so hilariously bad as the first ever episode. The first two series both started badly (nearly stopped watching the prequel) and doesn't surprise me that it overdid things under the circumstances but tend to be very enjoyable in the second half. Not quite sure why that changes

go and watch the first ep again. Too much slo-mo, blood splattering the screen...this was the same.

I agree some of the techniques were the same and they tend to tone it down as the series goes on but this far episode was far far more competent.

Character development at a guess

That does help, not sure that is entirely it.  I do hope they can do battle scenes as brilliantly as they did some arena fights

Not sure how good the show can be without Good Celonius and Batiatus. It doesn't help that every gladiator looks the same, and there's dozens of them.

Still, I'm sure it will pick up.
'Despite their  cup pedigree - since they've returned to the top flight in 1962 - Everton have, after today's results, once again gone further in the FA Cup than their much vaunted neighbours. For the record it's Everton 23 Liverpool 22  and 7 ties in 52 seasons'

Brilliant show. How can you not love it. its just fun to watch and the story does grip you. Probably won't win awards, but as a tv show i enjoy as much as any other.

Also great to see the Spartacus and Crixus alliance.

Also really liked Ganikus from GOTA.

And seeing Lucreatia again did scare me slightly. Didn't think she was alive.

Well, I don't think lines like "Place cock in ass as I finish" as an order to a male servant as one of the characters (who also just so happens to be male) is banging a prostitute, can be deemed award worthy.

I don't know, Game of Thrones does well despite such lines as "now play with the arse"...

My favorite line of the show so far!! “Tiberius, I would finish—place cock in ass.”    About time a series had men doing full frontal nudity (not that I watch it for that  :P )
