i have no idea.  i got totally bored of that sound by the mid-90s when the whole drag queen diva thing just got so completely played out.

still if you want to go back i recommend the tribal mix by junior vasquez as a great reference for that sound in its prime/.

thanks i appreciate it  :)

thanks i appreciate it  :)

heres a link to the best of the early mix cds mixed by vasquez in his pomp

http://www.amazon.com/This-Sound-Tribal-Various-Artists/dp/B000000QHH

the guy who ran the label - richard breeden i think - went onto launch pagan which showcased the early talents of terry francis and the tech house scene

but that's another story.... ;D

this was very big for me back in 1991.  its 'feel it' by coco, steel and lovebomb.  chris coco was the resident at the coco club which was at the zap every saturday when i was a student.  interesting to hear it getting a few recent airings though slightly pitched up (+2) when i've heard it out.  this is a big thumpy bumpy drug track and all the better for it.

this was the first record that really turned me on to villalobos.  i'd had a two year time out from discotheques and then my sister played me this.  'what i say' by ricardo villlobos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udXB8hMBuKM

though given a choice i will pretty always play the mix from isolee.  that goes for all records:

Here is an epic remix by Villalobos of Shackleton's 'Blood on my Hands', works very well in a club environment.

ah damian lazarus sent me these at the time.  shackleton was just breaking out as mr dubstep wasn't he?  my faves from villalobos are the druggy bangers though his remix of beck defies belief and in that whole period he was just redefining everything.  this is the b side to his first ever release on the dutch label inside from, i think, 1995 under the pseudonym richard wolfsdorf.  worth a lot of money on vinyl now its hard to believe this is just a b side.  let it play out.  very simple basic elements that just wind down and then up again to create a great lumbering bruiser of a track.  a great first record if you're coming on late in the day and the crowd is looking a little shell shocked - a guaranteed rabble rouser by the time it gets to the key stabs at the end.  this lists the track as mdma but i'm sure that's the a side.

richard wolfsdorf - bosch (inside)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXrH167G3-o

EDIT:  this is a cut down but the breakdown is still in there and its ALL about the breakdown

some more classics from the attic have been dusted off at casa hass today.  first up is a morales mix from back when he was good ie a red zone dub from the days that it wasn't all cheesy handbag vocals for the ladies.  this is a thompson twins remix but don't let that put you off this is a prime time house record that works just as well today as it did then.

thompson twins 'the saint' (red zone dub)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQpsW97V0OE&feature=related

the second track is a little bit tougher.   there was a time that you literally couldn't move for hardfloor remixes.  their big tune 'acperience' was THE acid haus revival record in the very early 90s and while always devestatingly effective they did start to sound rather formulaic after a while but then at £20k plus for a remix its not surprising you're going to want to rinse it right out.

this is their rather stark take on robert armani's 'cricus bells' and is another record that you need to play all the way through to understand its full brilliance.  an absolute cracker i heard ewan pearson play this at watergate in berlin last year and he brought the house down.

robert armani 'circus bells' (hardfloor remix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQpsW97V0OE&feature=related

you can also check out its original video here.  i worked at mtv at the time and this was a rare treat - a video for a cool record that you could slip on late at night when nobody was looking ;D

Is there any decent up to date funky tribal house albums about?

this was also big at the time.  'bottom heavy' (danny's bottom heavy mix) - danny tenaglia on tribal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKGvPRXiNFk

strikes me a little dated compared to a lot of the early chicago stuff but still not without its charm.

ah.  not really my dream line up though it will be interesting to see what leftfield are like.  paul daley - one half of the group - has opted out of the reunion which is a shame but still what a back catalogue and i remember the very day i first heard their hard hands remix of 'not forgotten' - literally the day the world changed.

Firstly, congratulations on the new 'Micro-Hass'. Hope all is well and you're weaning on a diet of milk and techno.

Secondly, nostalgia is a fine disease and even though DC is a tool, you have to hand it to the guy for knowing how to rock it.

Tribaly things were mentioned above... do you remember this  little gem on Fresh fruit?

Just got back from Ibiza, saw cristian valera and Paul Oakenfold, Both quality.

Giving Tiesto Kaleidescope another listen after initially thinking it was shite and loving it.

Feel it in my bones, Kaleidescope and In the Dark, all on repeat the minute.

Anyone been to Eivissa this summer?

Off to Barcelona at the end of September for a party my friend is organising to round off the summer (even if it's already a distant memory in the UK). He's the guy who got me into House music all those years ago - can't wait.

i'm digging this stuff and first heard it in my living room less than a year ago - how much has happened in that time is slightly blowing my mind.

omar s has his fans but for me he's like a moodyman lite.

i know faith - i am not a fan of their parties - always bang on about him but it all sounds a bit kerri chandler to me and by that i'm not referring to kerri at his best.

sorry.  i don't mean to dismiss your taste on it just saying that for me there's better stuff out there particularly from london at the moment.

still i've not exactly been storming the dancefloors this summer so feel free to tell me to fuck right off :)

I don't have a massive backcatalogue of house knowledge, only recently started getting into the genre, mainly due to acts I enjoy playing the odd track out. I also think my tastes are based on the angle I have came in at, so sounds which could be mixed in with the likes of Pangaea, Scuba, Martyn and more playful acts like Addison Groove and Brackles.

Posting on here means someone (usually yourself) will usually give me another direction to find an artist or track.

he has a facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Blake/243267652125?ref=nf

Yeah, he has only been about for just over a year really, saw him performing with Mount Kimbie last year which was an odd experience given they are a live group and it was a dubstep night.

He has done some good remixes, under his both his name and his Harmonmix guise.

holy fuck.  drop it like its NOT is amazing.  do you have a 320 of this i can use to impress my friends?

i'm not usually a massive fan of break related music but the 'stop what you're doing' track is also ace - its got the right kind of moodiness and tempo to work well with the kind of house and techno that i'm into.

this is something i've posted before.  its a peace division remix of sir drew 'rates for mates' and while not exactly similar to the latter its a big bruising house banger that captures that after party feeling of all systems gone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub-bY25s1t4

the picture of the boys is the cover shot for a dark, druggy mix they did for nrk.  i can't recommend it highly enough.

Evening techno fans...Had a few pints, got home and discovered that the only thing to put on was some old Warp classics...one of the best of which was Electric-Soma by B12..........17 years old and ageing fairly well.......

is b12 lars sandberg aka funk d'void?

one of my favourite warp releases has to be 'feel it' from coco, steel and lovebomb.  we used to go to the coco club every saturday from 1989-91 and this was the resident - chris coco - peak time banger.  massive even now i saw jamie jones start his set with it at kubicle last time i was down at public life:

more on a breaky house tip.

pressure drop 'feelin good' was a big rave record for me but also just has the right kind of bustle to work in a house set:

of course 'who's the bad man?' was another classic out of hard hands who also, of course, gave us leftfield.

of course the all time immortals of the dub-tech sound are basic channel.  this is 'quadrant dub'

if you like the b-12 stuff you should love this.  the germans always seemed to add a little more to the detroit blue print for me.

holy fuck.  drop it like its NOT is amazing.  do you have a 320 of this i can use to impress my friends?

Sorry, no 320 that. The Bills Bills Bills and A Milli remixes have been released on white label, I'll give you a heads up when I locate it though.

Here is a track I only heard recently and managed to locate; from Pritchard and Middleton under their Secret Ingredients guise.

and the original sample which certainly has its merits;
