(There is no official 1934 World Cup film; likely due to FIFA not wanting to highlight them allowing the fascist Italian Government to re-organise the logistics of the tournament - including using Italy matches to further promote fascism, along with Mussolini personally selecting match officials for Italy games. Several sources have also reported that the tournament was marred by bribery and corruption - including referee bias in favour of Italy. The Final was played at the 'National Stadium of the National Fascist Party'.)

We all know about Maradona but Negrete and Josimar stand out a mile in my first World Cup memories. I’ve definitely mentioned Negrete a couple of times before.

Weirdly don’t remember watching many games in that tournament but i do remember their goals. And the France v Brazil quarter final too which was a classic. I remember wanting France to win and not really knowing anything about the Brazilian names and why the commentators were making such a big deal about the likes of Zico.

Thank you Jason, some iconic moments there.

I loved that Brazil 82 team. That Brazil v Soviet union game really stands out in my memory. Socrates and Eder with late goals. Dasaev, a highly renowned keeper not having a clue as the balls flew by him.

My first world cup was 78 and I have quite a few memories of that. Scotland being shit (Alan Rough)and then good for a bit (Archie Gemmell, Kenny scoring and Souness finally getting a game). All the amazing long range goals. Kempes scoring in the ticker tape. Clive Thomas blowing his whistle as Brazil scored. Peru keeper Quiroga rugby tackling someone on the half way line.

If I had to pick one moment overall I'd probably plump for Brazil v Italy in 1982.

Oh how I wish the game was still the same as back then.

My first World Cup was '66. Apart from the Rattin incident against Argentina, and the Geoff Hurst disputed goal in the final, the main thing for me was all those crazy Brazilians with their drums and stuff flooding around Anfield on matchdays during the group stages when Brazil played at Goodison.

Maradona in 86, plus Denmark battering Uruguay 6-1 in the group stages

i have always though that Diego's second goal in that match was the greatest example of the qualities he possessed that made him stand apart. It's not the effortless grace with which he glided past the Belgium defenders or the clinical finish, we have seen many do that. It is the dexterity, balance and immense lower body strength he showed to somehow stay on his feet as he spun away to celebrate. These were the same physical attributes that allowed him to ride the reckless tackles, change direction almost in mid air and always seem to land on his feet, even if sometimes his head was almost touching the ground at the same time.

Manuel Negrete for Mexico against Bulgaria is another one.

Best world cup that, not just the football, the colour, it felt like street football on street side pitches. I was hoping the 2014 world cup in Brazil would be similar but the big corporations has made all world cups the same now. Only accessible by the wealthy people and the games look no different if they are in Qatar Russia or Brazil.

I was hoping the 2014 world cup in Brazil would be similar but the big corporations has made all world cups the same now. Yeah, it was the most exotic thing I’d ever seen back then I think! Back in the days when the commentators felt crackly and it all seemed so far away. Plus you never saw any of these great players on tv unless they played in England, and even then it was rare.

While not the "Greatest2 moment but Bergkamp's goal at France 98 was great. Picking the ball out of the sky from Frank de Boer in the sunlight and getting past Ayala before slotting it past the keeper. What a goal.
