Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Cody Mathès Gakpo

I've a feeling Gakpo will become very important to Slot.
He will. I’ve said in another thread he’s the one that actually creates some synergy between the other attackers who all look like strangers at times.

Gakpo will be key to Slot’s plans and I honestly think will be first choice left winger from the get go.

Easy to forget in the face of last night, but he’s been our player of the season for me.

VVD.

I think he’s a little inconsistent and very knackered. He should be given another season as he’s a very good squad player, but he lacks the athleticism and turning ability an elite 6 needs. In the summer I expect Slot to build a midfield around a double pivot of Mac Allister and one more athletic 6 who does more of the donkey work. I don’t think he’ll raid Feyenoord too much but I can see Mats Wieffer coming in.

Wieffer has no recovery pace. We absolutely need that in starting number 6 that has to cover acres of space.

I fucking hate inverted full backs.  I really do.  I'm not looking forward to next season if Slot uses this tactic.

Crying out for an upgrade on Diaz. I know people have bigger question marks over Nunez and Gakpo, but he’s the only one who I can’t see improving.

I think that the current forward line will be entirely phased out over the next two summers. I also think Diaz should be the first to go, we’ll get good value for him this summer.

I think we could be more solid but game management has been bad this season especially when defending a lead.

Us being a bit crap is all part of Klopps plan to make the new guy feel less nervous.
