Honestly, if you actually watched the interview or his celebration with Coutinho, rather than reading out of context quotes, you'd see he was clearly taking the piss. He even bursts out laughing at the end in the interview.

To me, yeah, he's laughing about it but most level headed people would let it go in my view. Or at least say out loud the day after that it was a joke and of course Phil should have the goal.
This is turning into a much bigger deal than I intended it to be. I really didn't think calling Sturridge a bit self-centered would cause such an outrage. To be completely honest, looking at how he acts in general I thought it was the consensus.
But then again, I don't think he'd be as good as he is if he wasn't the way he is. So I have no problem with it, really.
