Didn't he 'fail' his medical on the fact he was full of booze?

Frankie Worthington failed his medical because of high blood pressure. Shanks sent him off on holiday with the thought that a suitably relaxed Frankie would sail through at the second time of asking. Shanks hadn't reckoned that he would go off to Majorca on a bender. Second medical and his blood pressure was even higher!

Busquets. Often hear a lot of people say he's rubbish, or can't see what he does, but you watch him play live, and he's fantastic he really is

Not one of those people understand football.

Busquets is one of the best DMs to ever play the game and widely regarded so

Not rubbish, a great player for sure. But him and Fernandinho wouldn't be getting too much praise from me. If referees did their job, both would be getting sent off about 10 times every season with their persistent tactical fouling and diving. There is a common thread there.

Controversial opinion. Prime Javi Martinez was just as good as prime Busquets. Therefore, that makes him one of most underrated players of past decade. No one talks about Javi Martinez as an all-time great defensive-mid but was amazing especially in the year Bayern won the CL.

Jermain Defoe always like him alway think his career suffered from playing for too many different clubs although he did have two decent spells at Spurs. Should really have went to the 2006 World Cup.

Jay-Jay Okocha could have played for one of Europe's giants but somehow ended up at Bolton Wanderers.

I think it's because of the injuries he had. In his prime he was the best all-round midfielder in my opinion. Thiago is similar in terms of quality and injury issues.

Was he under rated?

Played a lot for Argentina and was prominent in the 1990 World Cup Final run and I think that stick's in people's minds. However, his club career wasn't that special. I remember him playing for Atalanta most in the early 90's. That's when he seemed to be at his best. He did get a long ban for drug use just after he joined Roma so this may have hindered his club career somewhat.

An under rated player from that generation was Aldair. Played 80 times from Brazil including their 1989 Copa America win, 1994 World Cup win and 1998 World Cup Runner up. He combined that with a truly outstanding club career. Played 13 seasons, and over 300 games, at Roma when Serie A was in it's absolute pomp. To play for a top team in that league you need to be a serious player. Given the foreigner rule in the 90's it made it even harder to be a regular starter in one of these teams. Was still there when Roma won Serie A in 2001 though slightly more peripheral player by that point. He was 35 though. Was still playing in Serie A at the age of 37 when it was the top league in Europe.

I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Probably Alex Sobczyk from Rapid Vienna. His first competitive game for FC Spartak Trnava tonight.

Spartak play mighty Slavia Prague in Czech-Slovakia Supercup tonight. Firmino type of player, he has a bit of everything. Big european clubs alerted, watching him tonight live, we will see how Alex does.

For his breathtaking freekick taking ability ... Juninho

Sick to death of hearing about how current players 'developed' these new techniques to put dip on the ball from a set piece when he was firing in every type of freekick from insane distances for years

One of my favorite players, and has scored more free-kicks then anyone else, was a really good player, but hardly anyone mentions him. Shame he didn't play for a bigger club than Lyon but he was crucial for their domination in France

I mentioned him on page 1  ;D

I'll admit, I did have a feeling his name might have been mentioned in here at least once

I'll never forget the freekick against Barca in the illuminous yellow kit. Still no fucking idea how he pulled that off, funnily enough I can say the same about most of the freekicks I saw him score. Could manipulate the path of the ball in a bizarre way, still haven't seen anything even close to it despite people wanking themselves silly everytime Ronaldo catches 1 in 100 of his freekicks right. The closest i've seen since Juninho (obviously in terms of style not consistency) is Calhanoglu

Mac Red has been spotted. Transfer forum alerted.

Side note: How is he underrated though? I looked him up. He is 22 has played 3 games in first division of Austrian football. Last season he scored 3 goals in Austrian second division scoring every 7 games or so on average. You would have to be a mentalist to say he underrated or similar to Firmino.   ;D

The way the ball moves at 1:03.  What’s the keeper supposed to do?  It doesn’t decide what way it’s going until it’s already in the penalty area.

It's unreal. He's scored so many different types of free-kicks, the power he has on them and the distance is insane

I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Exactly. I agree with the Villa shout. Think he was an amazing forward who was sometimes wrongly perceived as little more than a poacher. He played wide left a lot for Barca and Spain and still scored bags of goals whilst contributing to general play and being a really good dribbler. If we'd signed him from Valencia as was often mooted I've almost no doubt we'd have won the league such was his and Torres' excellent relationship.

His record for Spain is amazing. 40 goals in 59 competitive matches. Golden Boot at Euro 2008 and he'd have had it at World Cup 2010 too if Muller's goal in the third-place play-off wasn't taken into account. I don't think they win that World Cup without him - scored 5 out of 8 of their goals, including the only goal in 1-0 wins vs Portugal and Paraguay in the knock-out stages.

They massively missed him at Euro 2012 until the final when everything finally clicked against Italy. Without Messi, he was the only player who consistently gave them that penetration in the final third.

No surprise to see him still ripping it up in America and Japan.
