Might try and get tickets for Blackpool. Strange list of venues there... No Manchester, no Liverpool, no Sheffield? ???

I wouldn't mind betting there'll be further dates announced before long.

I just want to pose the question to many of the 'older than me' members about this band, what do you think? No holds barred.

I'm a few years older than you, and I think they could prove to be a very important band indeed.

I 'bought ' it a few days ago and I've not had the chance to give it a proper listen yet. I'll get back to you on that one Drob- I'll try not to let their ubiquitousness prejudice me, although flavours of the month/next big things tend to bring me out in hives.

Just got back from queuing 4 hours in the freezing cold in wolverhampton for my tickets.
Got my tickets and i asked the fella how many were left and he said 'about 90'.
I kinda feel sorry for the 400 or so that we're still queuing behind me.

Yeah they were good. Think they would of seemed better if the Arctic Monkeys were on after them instead of before. 'Apply some pressure' and 'Going missing' were really good.

Yeah, we were dead central to the stage, about 15 feet away. The crowd went off big time for Arctic Monkeys.

I actually came away from the gig liking Maximo Park much less than I did before though. The singer is a proper twat.

I just want to pose the question to many of the 'older than me' members about this band, what do you think? No holds barred.

Well as a wrinkly i have to say i think they are very very good.  I think the early versions of some songs have the edge on the album version but this is to expected really.  Like Up The Bracket sounded over produced if you had seen The Libertines early on. or the first Clash album  etc).  However Mardy Bum is a sensational pop track.  I love the fact they have an accent and are not afraid to use it.  My mate says there is not way that they could have come out of Liverpool - far to funky a baseline - which I can see what he means (like no-one else can do the Liverpool sound that runs on through the la's/coral/cast/cubical).  AM's sounds a bit Aztec camera and a bit funky in a 'we don't need this fascist grave thang style).
My lad did me a CD about three months ago and most of the tracks are on the album - but i listen to the downloaded versions one more than the proper one.  There has been some good stuff generally in recent times - Hard Fi and Editors, I am unsure about maximo park - may be one trick ponies, as may AM's.  But at least they have delivered a great pop record and do not seem to be corporate whores.
By the way - watch out for the band 'We Start Fires'.

So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I love these fella's, don't listen to nowt else at the mo.  Went on a mad spree at the weekend, got 69 tracks by them now (live, acoustic, original recordings, demo, b-sides, album tracks), and the astoria gig on video.  www.mardy-bum.com good site  :thumbup (tip - if you go into the music download bit then right click on the filenames, save target as, then open up and listen!) I recommend space invaders, really good song, could of been album material potentially.

They usually post it as an MP3 later. If I come across it I'll let you know.

Here's the new one 'Leave before the lights come on'.

There's also a sequel to Mardy Bum called 'Do me a favour' but haven't heard it yet.

Ok, finally got around to getting their album.  :o I know! I have to say i was abit wary of getting the album because of the hype, but i have to say it is a great album.  If i had to rate it i'd say 8.5/10.
Personal Faves:

1) I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor
2) Fake Tales Of San Francisco
3) Still Take You Home
4) Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured (love the intro)
5) Mardy Bum
6) A Certain Romance

But me fave Arctic Monkeys song has to be 'When The Sun Goes Down'. I absolutely love this song. I love the start and then bam! Love the riff. Great lyrics as well.  8)

I'm with you on this one. I heard about them ages ago, before the hype, didnt think much to them. Gave them another chance when the hype was roaring, and still didnt see what all the fuss was. Gave them another chance and still, nothing.

I just dont think its in any way deep enough for me, They have a few good riffs and beats but its a bit, whats the word...hollow. It's pop.  :-\
