Kante was of a box to box midfielder. Whether box to box or a sitter, we need more physicality there.

Kante roamed around the pitch and put danger at the source. He was 100% a DM he just did it in a different way. You could say the same about Mash.

Do you mean great short DMs? Kante was quick and covered loads of ground, super athletic in his prime.

He was yeah, he didn’t suit playing at the base of a 433 though and actually got shifted around in different formations. I think Lampard said he played him further forward so he could press nearer to the front. I think Sarri just didn’t rate him on the ball and he wanted the ball player in Jorginho. Kante was at his best when he could sit as part of a 2 in front of the defence, one player would hold and he’d have free rein to break play up and chase the ball. One of my favourite players ever was Mascherano. He could play any defensive position well, was unbelievable against the counter and made his area of the midfield a no go zone when he played. I’d love us to sign another like him.

A lot of that will depend on Bajcetic's growth problems. The kid is a real talent, and could turn into one of the best defensive midfielders in the World ...

I wouldn’t be shocked if we found him a loan next season, only because he’s missed a year in his development and he might benefit more by getting a full season of regular football under his belt. He won’t get that here and I’m a huge fan, but I’d be amazed if he was seen as a solution for next season.

I think the same. He needs a season of first-team football in his legs.

Height
Strength
Aerial ability
passing ability short and long
Positional sense
Availability
Recovery pace

It's a very short list. I've checked.
If we're looking for perfection, we'll be looking for quite a while. Whoever we get will be deficient in (at least) one of those areas. Either that or he won't have the required experience for it not to be considered a big risk.

Hopefully the boffins manage to solve the problem.

Looks like Bruno Guimarães will be going to Arsenal or City if Newcastle will sell him. That’s another outstanding, big, powerful, aggressive player with elite technique joining one of the current top 2. Going to be really tough to compete against sides with such dominant players at key positions, especially when the market looks scarce. £100m a lot of money for a soon to be 27 year old Brazilian, the lease on their legs usually goes around 29/30.

Well maybe we should sign some players instead of just claiming poverty? City we cant compete with, but if anyone claims we should be falling behind Arsenal is having a laugh.

^ that one is entirely on us when he was available for 30-35m or so in France putting up elite numbers whilst we made 1 midfield signing in like 5 years.

Personally, think he goes city along with Paqueta.

Who’s claiming poverty?

Arsenal have replaced us as the best run club in the league. Their squad is easily the best value for money in the league. Nobody’s claiming poverty, but we just need to go back to being smart. Arsenal have spent big money in some areas but that’s because they’ve unearthed/developed a few gems and took their time to squad building rather than trying to fix everything in one window. Also did the right thing of embracing youth rather than holding onto older players for too long.

I’ve said a couple of times in here, their window last summer is exactly the window we need this summer. Elite midfielder, a top false 9 and technically strong defender.

Yeah we had our chance, we pissed around with signings for a while from 2021 onwards.

The biggest difference between us and Arsenal is injuries. Imagine if we had Arsenal's season with regard to injuries and they had ours.

We should steer clear of overpriced portuguese league players.

Even that Gyokeres lad is £80m rated after 1 good season in a weaker league.

If Slot went with Baj I would back Slot but it would be a gamble especially at first.

Well, we do have Endo and Mac Allister. If Bajcetic is finally fit, Slot will introduce him slowly, with some starts in the League Cup, and some substitute appearances in the PL and the CL. By the turn of the year, it should be clear if he is ready for a full time role. Personally, I am hoping for another Quansah scenario ...

I think he’s a brilliant player and will have a brilliant career wherever he ends up. If it was the choice of him or the lad at Frankfurt I’d probably rather the Frankfurt fella. Will be cheaper and I think Bundesliga defenders translate really well to the PL, probably because the pressing game is more prominent there which means they’re a bit more confident stepping up and defending around the halfway line. Not sure Silva’s that much different/better than Quansah. He’s obviously got more top level experience but with an £88m release clause, I’m not sure it would be that much of a massive upgrade. For that money you want the full package really, Virgil MKII.

His current numbers tell us a lot more than some, admittedly very good, goals this season.

I think a more crucial number would be his cost, he'd be north of £80 million and I don't think he is the best we can get for that

Yeah he definitely has a clause. It's the reason he didn't go to Brighton, because they wouldn't agree to one.

RAWK’s resident #nerds won’t like it but Kudus is class.

He’s the best young talent in the position we need and he’s had a year to adapt to the pace of the game, it would be wise to sign him before the market inflates his value out of our range

Based on what?

Not trying to be funny, just a genuine question as I've seen very, very little of him.

Is there not a danger people are just assuming he's going to be great because he's at Brighton?

I'd be reasonably happy with any of that lot, they all have upsides and potential to get better. Would prefer that Kvarawhatever guy over any of them, maybe Williams too, but not sure we'll spend the money they'll apparently cost.

I still don't think we'll sign a forward unless we sell one (or more). I think we've got a really good set at the minute, though can see the reasoning behind selling any of them. Or keeping all of them. Either way, unless we sell without replacing then I'm sound with it.

What’s he done to be seen as the best young talent? He’s a talent but he’s played about 1500 minutes for them this season. Conor Bradley’s played 1500 minutes this season. He looks brill but you wouldn’t be forking out £50m+ based on a tiny sample size. For me he needs the games to develop and be ready to play for a big club. Whenever I watched him he looked gassed after an hour. Brighton have struggled with injuries this season, would benefit him loads developing with a load of lads at a similar level and being a better player for it, like Mac, Caicedo and Trossard did.
