We've only played a Scottish club once before in the European Cup/Champions League, Aberdeen in 80-81, & what happened afterwards. ;D
We played Celtic in 1966.

That was the cup winners cup…not the top competition.

Exactly my opinion, which makes it all the more baffling when you see people defending them on the Scottish football thread, was hoping to get Celtic as I would have went to Parkhead with my mate, Celtic are a proper football club.

Although it's annoying we got Napoli again [stab city & all that] :butt,  at least the draw that we don't have to do too much traveling, when we could have had likes of Shakhtar from pot 3[although they're playing home matches in Poland] & Haifa from pot 4

I was just reminiscing.  The home game was electric.  Leaving the Kop after we won the match I saw a middle-aged Celtic fan leaning against the entry wall, bawling like 3 year old. Sobbing his fukking heart out.

Great memory, that :)

Nice to be so highly thought of on the biggest Sevco forum isn't it?
1) It is not the biggest Rangers forum.
2) It's one poster, even if it was 20 that doesn't reflect a whole fanbase.
3) The fact that you use term Sevco, shows exactly what you are all about, i've no doubt you will be trawling anything Rangers related in the next few months tying to find something to post to create animosity between the fans.

I call them Sevco as they were wound up and reformed for financial cheating, that's why, and their supporters are Brexit Ultra right wing knuckle draggers, looking at your avatar, I'd say you're the same.

I studied in glasgow for a couple of years; being liverpool/football mad when I came - I decided to watch both teams; drink in their pubs - travel away with them. I started going with my uni mates but got around on my own in the end. being a protestant meself I thought rangers would be the easy way in - but holy moly - the rangers fan base is close to impossible to like if you are not born into it or something else.. No sunday school with celtic either and gallowgate/bairds bar is no place for the faint hearted or if take offence; but I go with celtic and their fans 100 out of 100

It’s not even about individuality, it’s about the team. Our game was based on his controlling of the tempo. Squeeze the life out of the opposition and then strike. That is our game. Like a pack of pythons.

Tough draw. We must win our home games at least.

Tottenham's group look like a an Europa League group

Means we'll have earned it when we win it.

So many bedwetters on here tonight. The usual suspects who spend FAR too much time telling us how much they hate Rangers. So tedious.

Chill out lads it's just a game of football. Will be a great atmosphere at Anfield and Ibrox. Put your petty hatred away and try and enjoy life.

Well I know two Rangers fans well, and they are sound as a pound, one txt me at 5.00 to say ‘I hope we get you’...not because of any raging animosity, quite the opposite, but because a few years ago they were getting beat by Annan athletic and now they just want to be on the same pitch as one of Europe’s elite

Please let’s not let one village idiot and an unhealthy dose of sectarianism spoil what could be a couple of cracking occasions

Think the games were behind closed doors.

Other that the extra attention the Rangers game gets, we have 3 evebly matched teams who will take points off each other. We'll sail through if we can get our act together.

Amazing that we’ll be playing Rangers after one of our legendary midfielders was there and did such a great job - bringing our two clubs closer together seemed unlikely but somehow a kinship has been built.

Lots of shite being spouting on here from the usual suspects. Liverpool and Glasgow are similar cities with strong immigrant Irish populations. Thankfully the polarisation that took place in Glasgow never really materialised in Liverpool although there have been moments.  Rather than identifying as British/Protestant or Irish/Catholic we all get together under the Scouse banner and support the Reds. Was dreading drawing either Celtic or Rangers because it stirs the passions of many for non-footballing reasons.  Both clubs have working class fanbases with Celtic having a largely SNP allegiance and Rangers a Labour allegiance.  Both also have strong drinking cultures so expect many thousands to travel for the day out.  Lets hope those travelling respect our City.

I’m friendly with a few Rangers fans. Sound lads - I wouldn’t be friends with them otherwise - who are looking forward to a couple of great games.

Given Napoli fans’ previous, it seems strange that Rangers’ support are being cast as the villains…

I think the last sentence sums it up, but applies here too - don't give a fuck about dumb celtic/rangers rivalry and find it embarrassing seeing some of the puerile stuff on here.

If we can't beat those three then we can't beat the teams we are likely to meet afterwards.  Travel is minimal really and should be good games but we should progress assuming we have any players left by then.

Group isn't that hard, only way we struggle is of we are not up to it or get rattled like we did when we played Fulham and Man Utd. Ajax have sold a few good players, Napoli are not as good as a few years ago and Rangers are no better than playing say Nottingham Forest.
