I would be sad to see him go as I want him to succeed. He has some gifts that very few possess. If he can develop a smidge more composure he could take off and score oodles of goals for us. But I get it. It is an if. And there’s plenty of evidence he is not converting nearly enough.

My hope is he gets a year under Slot, so things become very clear one way or the other.

Right now, for me at least, it’s a question mark. Give him another season and see if the new manager can help him unlock something. If so, we won’t look back. If not, we sell.

Mind you, if Barcelona are in for him, they are seen as the destination to get to (or Real Madrid) for anyone from South America, even if at present it is a Barcelona side that has slipped back a bit.

While I’m on it, do they have any money? Or what about players who could come here?

I hope it doesn’t happen. I want Darwin to succeed at Liverpool.

I'd be ok selling him to Barca, actually. He'd be happy there, like you said, and I think he'd have a chance of tearing up La Liga. But yeah, the money is a big issue. I can't see them coming up with enough to make it worth our while. I think there would likely be a huge chunk in performance-based add-ons...which, of course, would be omitted from media reports on the sale for all eternity.

I’ve been asking the same questions about him all season, absolutely nothing has happened since to make me think twice about that either.

That said, some of the shit people are saying online about him is just totally out of order. He’s a likeable lad whose trying his best, remains to be seen whether that will be good enough or not but either way get behind him whilst he’s still trying.

Love the lad but I would not be surprised if an offer came in from Sunny Spain and he left. I do suspect there is an element of him not quite settling in the UK on top of wholesome changes from the management/coaching side may play a part.

I think we will miss something if he goes, mainly an energy and creating something out of sheer willingness to chase a lost cause which is something a lot of the online fans don’t fully appreciate.

Doubt that we will get Coutinho type money from Barca but if we get something then it’ll help with the rebuild.

I don't think its to do with idiots online abusing him. think its more to do with lack of starts recently. only came on for last 10 mins yesterday along with salah other week.

I’ve backed Darwin from day one as he seems to have the potential to be the best in the league at times. However , he is far too inconsistent and not nearly a good enough finisher. I’m not against us keeping him but I think it’s pretty obvious that he can never be relied upon as our main goalscorer. If he does stay then we still need to sign a top striker.

It's sad how we focus so much on the negatives after such a good game. We played some of our best attacking football in recent times, but all the focus is on a sub who came on when the game was over.

3-4 pages here, and less than half a page of praise for Gakpo.

seems a bit daft to sell before he can have time with Slot, unless he doesnt fancy him, i think we need a striker anyway as Jota i dont think, sadly, will ever be fit for long periods. needing two strikers will very much limit what we can do in other areas.

There’s none, because he disabled comments long time ago, which makes the thing all more bizarre. There's criticism elsewhere on the internet but this is nothing compared to the abuse Gakpo received a month ago.

Him deleting all of his LFC posts, who are still paying him a fortune, screams of disrespect to me. As fans we have largely been very patient with him, despite him missing chance after chance and making the same brain dead decisions, being caught offside constantly etc. If that’s how he feels then he can do one IMO.

And Salah disrespected Klopp last week, the season has fallen apart, the pressure must be incredible and Nunez is clearly struggling, we need to support him now more than ever.

People didn’t really expect much from Gakpo, who is doing ok but not setting the world alight. There’s not much to say there actually.
We expected Darwin to be world class, a lot of people are now realising that prob won’t happen and are changing their minds about him. Hence the amount of comments.

This is why social media needs to be binned off… the toxicity of it and the freedom people have to post the most horrendous things with minimal consequences is just frightening. Says more about how the world is if we have people who treat others like that…

Unfortunately a lot of people live sad lives and find more joy in tearing someone down then reliving in someone’s success.

Seems like a chunk of the “ fan base “ has that view with Darwin.

Nunez needs to take the advice of Owen and Sturridge and have a standard go-to finish. And make simple obvious decisions. I know that's easier said than done in fractions of a second but if he wants to be a success that is what needs to happen. Today is a perfect example, the obvious decision was to take it around the keeper. And you can tell it was the obvious decision because people on two completely different shows (Sky, TNT) were saying the same thing.

Better decisions naturally come with experience. I think Nunez gets a third season at Liverpool but if we're here next season pretty much saying the same things about him I think he gets moved on whether we make a massive loss on him or not.

Context in that post was not abusive at all. You're just sensitive to a negative opinion to your favourite player.

Theres not been any actual abuse to Darwin in here.

I'm not sure if Darwin will get better -- but he might. I read something a while ago about how Rashford at ManU committed an offseason to work with sports specialists to analyze everything from his movements running to his technique to gain that marginal edge in his play. Maybe Darwin can do the same in some way. Who knows. I'm not sure... but I'm also not sure that Darwin would be getting so much criticism if we were still in the title race (assuming that his stats were the same). There may be some scapegoating going on.
