Hey, at least it's brought an element of suspense to our title challenge. Was far too comfortable for a while there.

Exactly...I've been thinking for a while that the one thing missing from this title challenge was a sense of risk or drama, not knowing if we would win it, like we had in 2014 and last year. Well now we have it!

The virus has cast such a surreal pall over everything. Football, Liverpool is simultaneously in the passenger and back seat of things given the immediacy of the suspension.

I'm about to.

If we end up without the league title, my "break" from football will be permanent.

I think based on these 2 graphs,

https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2020/3/12/21172040/coronavirus-covid-19-virus-charts
Chart 1

https://static.seekingalpha.com/uploads/2020/3/10/49540393-15838458418970757.png

Premier league should resume in June, and we can then win the premier league.

Coz China's logarithmic curve of new cases lasts for 3 months. Italy's curve started later than China, and UK's curve started later than Italy, but they all follow similar trajectory and gradient. So since UK's curve started around early March, so should flatten out around late May.

I agree, given that we already have a manager and a player who has it, doesn't make sense for them to be near one another on the pitch. It's still sucks but it makes more sense to do so

2 week break, hopefully in that time none of our players or staff or their families have it.

Stay safe.

...or hopefully all the players contract the virus but are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms.  Two weeks isolated, then back they come with the 'immunity' from reinfection and the ability to train and mix with whoever without the fear of contracting the disease.

Ethically it can't happen, but you could put forward a case for deliberately infecting the entire squad and staff (except those at high risk from underlying medical conditions), giving them excellent medical care for the two weeks, and then the club would be corona-proof.

What happens if they all stay 'corona-free' during the postponement, only to contract COVID-19 soon after playing resumes?  Do we play with a weakened squad, or would the matches be abandoned?  If you have a few players with an injury, do you cry 'Corona' in order to get the matches postponed so they can recuperate...?

If those in charge of the country had any sense they'd have shut everything down over a week ago and we'd be dealing with the worst of it now.

Fuck this country.

Don't see us playing until at least late April, and if it's not safe for the go ahead after that, we'll probably have more important matters as a society  ::)

If the league is cancelled, that's me done with football. Genuinely. Will be gutting giving my season ticket in but that's how it is. At least they'll cancel the European Cup too. Not the worst way to go out.

It'll be just fine.  The end is nigh stuff is more prevalent during periods of uncertainty.  The one thing we do know is how profitable this league is --- they won't want to compromise their revenue streams especially after the hit everyone will be taking during the crisis.

I think what we are talking about here is when we come back to the league, not if.   The only thing that could confound this (imo) is a derelict of duty and total systemic incompetence leading to major delays, cycles of reinfection, and a collapse of the existing health systems.  In Italy, they were not prepared, behind the curve, and were the first to deal with the community spread issue without adequate testing, medical labour and hospital bed space.

If we learn how to defeat the virus together, we should be fine in terms of stopping its spread (incubation period appears to be 3-5 days - before symptoms occur).

The Euros will be called off at some point, or at least postponed. The fact that it's spread over several countries with thousands of fans travelling across the country means that it's a non-starter at the present time.

We're apparently about a month behind Italy. If that's the case, there's no way we're continuing in 2 weeks. I was convinced last night they were going to void the season but you good people talked me round, there's too many legal ramifications. Start up again at the end of May maybe, and play the remaining fixtures through the summer? I'm just glad I don't work for the FA, I can barely organise my own breakfast never mind reschedule the final third of a football season.
Thank you Jurgen

Apologies if this has been covered....

Assuming we resume the league in April, will the fixture list pick up from where it was left or would we play the scheduled fixture for whichever weekend footy resumes?

I'm guessing nobody knows at this stage?

It's absolutely the right call, it's overdue, too. Issue is it's kind of unprecedented, so there's no way of knowing what happens now. Obviously best case is early April it's died down and we can resume. Worst case, well it's best not thinking about it.
