Since when did it become acceptable for players to be interviewed by a clubs mouthpiece, to then be asked about joining that club, with said clubs kit lashed over a shoulder?

That's fucking outrageous

This is what I've thought about recently too. Abu Dhabi could have actually done it in the right way and built something, in time, that could actually be respected and admired. Instead, their sheer arrogance and disregard for the sport has spawned a leech that, if given free reign, will suck the life out of the game and kill it.

The infrastructure stuff like great training facilities in combination with some initial spending and then moderate ongoing support as they gradually built themselves up more organically would have got them great pr and when or if they eventually starting winning stuff it would have been a great feelgood story, but instead they decided fuck that and cheated with their spending which has inevitably ended up with this backlash.

Imagine being Pep and professing to be shocked that other clubs and managers haven't spoken up in support of your sustained cheating that has negatively affected those other clubs.  :o

As it’s City who are the victims it’s quite funny though.

I only know one City fan and he hates what's been done to his club (and football on the whole) by the vast amounts of money ploughed into it. In fact, I'm not even sure he bothers with them anymore. He's also quite willing to admit they've cheated. I suspect he's in a tiny minority.

Actually I am.not so sure he is the minority of their proper fans. I know two who have been fans years before the takeover and they're not happy at all with the owners.

Never rely on the internet (irony of that statement is not lost on me) to gauge true fan opinion.

City should have been realistically aiming for a Leicester type model.  Good rich owners, Invest some cash, build a 30-35k stadium, spend wisely, develop and acquire players and manager, grab the odd trophy, build some more.  They just aren't sustainable at their current size, shape, investment scale etc (if they stay inside proper and fair invest levels).  But if they did it right,  the real fans would have had a great journey and would still be able to have their odd cup final days etc.
Not being local, I never ever meet City or Leicester fans.  If I did meet an adult City fan they would almost certainly be band wagoners or under 15.  I think that's ok and normal if it's all done fairly. It  took Chelsea a generation to get any significant fanbase outside London (using pre FFP cheat codes also back then).  Whether what Chelsea did was "fair" is well past , but they even look like they are resetting these days.
If City put their hand up, took their medicine, restart the journey, rightsize to their true level then that only leaves the dodgy background of their owners to deal with.  But if they were at the right size and balance,  they would maybe be sold to a realistic owner some day when AD gets bored. The rest of the footballing world would wish them luck on their turnaround.
Anyway - At this point it looks like that's not going to happen, they are digging in and standing their ground. Hard to see where they go forward from there if they don't put their hand up. Do they keep to "plan A" throw a ton more money at it and keep breaking the rules?, or do they try to rewrite them? What other club will buy into them winning this? (PSG only I guess?)  If they don't back down, surely it blows up one way or another.

there was no sympathy for Liverpool when Coutinho had a “bad injury” and wanted away.
The opinion pages were full of shit about him wanting to be winning stuff.
Funny how they tend to forget his transfer funded VVD and Ally.

I'd be completely unsurprised if he's up to his neck in the kind of obligations you can't simply walk away from. His brother, Girona, whatever quasi-legal way they're remunerating him off the Manchester City ledger. You cannot just quit from that.

Good, I hope he's stressed and having a tough time. Anyone who is willing to deal with the likes of Abu Dhabi deserve no sympathy. Pep knows where the blood money is coming from and still signed on. So fuck him the hypocritical tight pants wearing twat and the rest of the city players and staff.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Just seen that image and article of Sterling with a Real Madrid short draped on his shoulder.

I mean, how fucking dim witted can you get? I really do defend that guy most times, especially during the World Cup a couple of years (when he got slated yet no marks who did sweet fuck all like Vardy got a pass), but I thought he’d grown up after the debacle we had with him five years ago.

How stupidly naive can you be? I put it down to youth all those years ago but at this stage in his career it’s simply the case that he’s nothing but a petulant simpleton.

The fella is a prick.

I have a couple of mates who support City (of the old school variety) but this is exactly what I see.
I have given up talking about football with them When I had talked about FFP they trot out the line about it being unfair and not legally enforceable. Dare to ask how they feel about sportswashing a awful regime and they claim to know nothing about their behaviour. I was initially surprised but it seems par for the course in this era.

He’s talked about extending his contract on that piece.

But why would you leave it to the middle or end of next season?

It would generate huge uncertainty for the club

My thoughts exactly. I suppose their supreme arrogance got the better of them and they (their ownership) thought they were bigger than the sport itself.

This is why it's so important that the game slaps them down, or the game is basically screwed.

They run their team like Abu Dhabi run their Kingdom with the utmost arrogance and lack of respect for the rules. Neither situation should be a surprise the evidence has always been there. It's just no one wanted to recognise it till now.

The academy facilities are first rate, my lad got to train on the first teams indoor pitch and play on the outside pitches (including the "its no longer named after Yaya Toure pitch) when he was there. They could have done so much for the communities of Manchester and the kids while building a side that we would have all respected. Now I just look at the academy and the work in the area as a smokescreen to divert attention from the cheating.
