Sounds good although someone on Reddit claiming the second medicine is HIV antiviral Ritonavir, so no idea how it works by itself.

Can we assume that if someone doesn't get it that has been in close contact with a positive case for hours on end it means they already had it at some point? No idea how my girlfriend hasn't had it when i tested positive last week and we've been sharing the same small flat. This seems to be a highly infectious virus yet there's lots of cases where people in close proximity aren't getting it. Or is that because the vaccines are causing less people to get it?

None of them have had it before. The mother in law has not even had her booster yet. I can only put it down to him, apart from feeling achy, being asymptomatic and he's double jabbed.

Portugal seem to be doing very well with their vaccinations, a world leading +87% of their population fully vaccinated, UK 67%.  Portugal clearly doesn't have as many anti-vax nutters as we do

Not really. Household transmission rates for the original strain were somewhere around 20%, that increased with alpha and again with delta, but even then still only to around 35-40%.

It seems counterintuitive having been told for so long how infectious this is that it doesn’t get passed on to everyone in a household. But for every incident that we hear like yours where no transmission has happened, we don’t really hear about the many incidents where the entire household comes down with it - or at least it sticks in our mind less I think. For all the instances like yours where the index case hasn’t transmitted onto others in the household, entire households getting it have to make up the shortfall to give us those household secondary attack rates above.

26/11/21 so still a few weeks to go. Earliest it was letting me book was 22/11/21

Should be able to book an appointment from 6 weeks before your 182 day date, and we had guidance out last Friday telling us that we had flex to vaccinate from 5 months when appropriate (opportunistically or if punter attends a session as a carer and is coming due etc.)

Booking a slot may become an issue though as vaccine supply looks like tightening up a bit over next three or four weeks for some reason

Yes, I remembers ours being close. I am not sure where you are I went to Asda today and managed to get a flu jab. So, I am quite pleased now. I think rob put a link on maybe a page back from the Lloyds Pharmacy. On there, you can make an appointment to have a flu jab. I think most age groups are covered in that.

Yes taste and smell slowly came back after 7 days. Probably at around 80% now.

Covid effects the nose and throat and that’s all connected to your ears so I guess it possible

Yep I had an ear infection for the last few days of my isolation earlier this week, was basically deaf in 1 ear and thought it could be linked

To my knowledge, I've not had covid, but between August 2019 and May 2020, I lost over 50% of my hearing in one ear.  I've had MRIs and CTs and it remains 'unexplained.' In place of hearing, I have heavy pulsatile tinnitus.  The ENT specialist says my hearing loss is consistent with what they see in post-viral patients or soldiers returning from war.

Given that I make a lot of my income from composing music, it's a total pisser.

Ah cheers. I googled it last night and there are some links with ear infections. I feel fine today but it seems to happen more at night over the last couple of nights.

I suppose as your immune system is weakened you're more prone to other infections. Although I've not been out the flat in 10 days!

Same here. I swerved it for 18 months, then the Delta got me.

If you can, just hibernate away and let it run its course. That's all I could do. Hopefully you get it mild and are back up and running soon.

I was mostly fine mate, worst part of it was losing smell and taste which is back now thankfully. Double jabbed 30 year old.

Numbers admitted to hospital actually lag behind numbers in hospital - admissions reported today are as of the 2nd, but there are "in hopsital" numbers for up to the 5th.
Going by the second measure, it looks as though things are already starting to level off a bit.

In England, numbers went from 6099 on 19/10 to 7019 by 28/10. After that they rose a little then fell back, and as of 05/11, they're at 7072.
Scotland and Wales are relatively flat across the last week as well.
Northern Ireland is too, but they're the only one where the data seems to be revised later on, so I'm less confident in their numbers.

Sorry to hear that mate. Must have been traumatic.
It's something that can happen with random viruses though. It happened to my brothers wife. Thought she had an ear infection a few years ago and on getting checked she was informed she was almost completely deaf in one ear and it was untreatable.
Fortunately she got a second opinion and a cochlear implant was possible which restored some level of hearing.

Hopefully you'll get a good result and get back to what you do best.

Related to the hearing/ear problems from Covid - one of my symptoms from my J&J vaccine post-viral fatigue issues has been continued ear problems, including imbalance issues.Though GP thought issue caused simultaneously due to body reacting to vaccine rather than as a symptom of.

Possibly, but you’d have expected an uptick on return and they stated falling before half term.

What I’m hoping is happening is herd immunity (ha!).

Roughly 80% of 11-16s have most likely had it.  Add to that vaccinations, and it’s starting to run out of kids to infect.

The rest will depend on waning of immunity…

But if (and we know how uncertain these things are) this is right, the main source of infection in society will have greatly reduced, so therefore, so should the infections in other groups…

They're dropping in kids, not in the same way in adults especially over 65s

There's no doubt we saw a surge locally where I work in the last fortnight leading to about 1.5-2x the number of inpatients we'd been trudging along with for the last couple of months
