It's up to him whether he plays or not.

If he's crying off with a sore neck and/or back all season, then he'll struggle to cement a place.

?? What are you inferring?

Shame we lost, but the performance was good, in particular in the second half. They won the PL last season and it's to be expected that they find ways to hurt us. We had our chances too (Salah...). Should we be concerned they way they played through our defence? Was good to see how things improved when we started to play the ball from side to side.

Think Keita got to be starter this season. His penetrating runs and creativity are much better than the others in midfield.
Agreed. Keita penetrating runs and the pace in front of him could be deadly, with Mane back too!!
He does that next week, I ll allow him to penetrate me.

Honestly, why even engage it :D
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

If he's crying off with a sore neck and/or back all season, then he'll struggle to cement a place.

This makes no sense when pretty much everything has been caused by him being assaulted with no protection from refs. That Wolves game he got absolutely battered and about the 5th hack finally done him. Barca was another assault. Then you have shit like the Leicester and Southampton games where he's been battered in the area and got fuck all both times, he probably wonders what the fuck is going on. If he's faking then he could probably be earning more money in Hollywood than at us.

Wasn't arsed about winning the Shield pre-game.
I wanted a good performance from the lads & overall I was pleased with the display.
1st half we were still in pre-season mode, mistakes, disjointed, uninspiring with the odd glimpse of a counter attack.
2nd half was the complete opposite..first of all we were brave, against this City side & how they can punish teams in a flash..we showed exactly why we will be challenging on all fronts this season.
City..despite winning the game will be more worried after that game than us,we have that winning mentality & thoroughly deserved to win in 90 mins.
It's a shame Mane missed the game, defo a massive loss today.
Tons of positives which far outweigh the negatives.
Todaysmatch gives me a lot of confidence going into the Norwich game.
Support the team,Trust & Believe.

2 weeks ago we looked miles off it - kudos to Klopp and his team for getting us that fit in that amount of time

Onto the real games - Norwich won’t enjoy their Friday night

On James Miller’s injury: “It was a minor muscle injury, he should be okay for next week - he might even be okay to train tomorrow but certainly he will train on Tuesday”

“I am fine with Friday, I’m fine with the time we have before Chelsea, I’m not happy with how much time we have before Southampton but this is the situation. It’s our schedule, and this is not something we will complain about”

We will try everything to win more trophies this season and I thought what the boys showed today, they looked pretty hungry. Both teams wanted to win it today. My team is not satisfied.”

“Im completely happy with the game today, we struggled a little bit positioning wise but the biggest threat were the long balls and that’s how they stretched out formation. We changed the positioning in the second half and it helped us.

“It is not important for us as managers. It’s the physical workload the players do. We need to make sure that the boys have time. We can’t just increase the squad because football is about team building.

The only person arsed is Pep, the weirdo.

That really is the word for him. No idea what he dresses like, all the comments ore match, we definitely get him worked up. He’ll know we’ll be a handful for him again this season so regardless of the shoot out that’s one of the main plus points for today.

Last season it was Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner, this season it appears to be Henderson, Wijnaldum and Fabino. Whenever I see what are effectively three holding midfielders I always feel depressed. Klopp tends to do it when he wants to play conservatively, but I always feel it just stops Liverpool playing.

You don’t think we did reasonably well last season?

We should've won this match, we were so much better in the 2nd half. The reason we didn't was mainly down to the fact Mo has only been back for 6 days - another week of sharpness and he scores at least 2 goals. He did show great pace and the confidence is there so no need to worry.

Losing on pens wasn't a big deal to be honest, I think getting back to 1-1 was more important - we showed that the 1st half was just rustiness and we are working our way back into form ready for Friday.

Gotta love how City cry and cry over anyone who tackles them, yet they are among the dirtiest of foulers around.

He looked great but he needs to sort out his finishing/passing when players are in better positions. Few times today he just had his head down and didn’t even bother looking up to see if anybody was in a better position. Was the same against Lyon during the week. I’m sure once the season properly gets underway on Friday, he’ll pass a lot more and play with his head up instead of his shoot on sight policy today

I'm happy with that. I would have liked to win just to put one over on City more than actually win the Community Shield, but we were marginally the better team across the whole 90 minutes and probably deserved the win. I feared a thumping here after we were dismantled by Napoli, but we showed the kind of form that should put us in good stead going into the new season. Thought Gomez was outstanding tonight (apart from when he got robbed by Sterling in the opening minutes) and was my personal MOTM.

Mo's selfishness today was infuriating to be fair. Today was an example of how he can do better when he's in possession of the ball. I don't mind seeing our players have a go from distance or try to dribble past a man, but when you're trying it for about the 10th time in the game, it might be time to start thinking about bringing your team mates into the game. That said, I feel like he had Zinchenko on toast for most of the game.

I’m sure once the season properly gets underway on Friday, he’ll pass a lot more and play with his head up instead of his shoot on sight policy today

He creates more for the front 3 than either of the other 2 despite playing furthest forward of the 3 (in xg terms)
Can only think of one time today when he clearly should’ve passed. Most of the time he’s in the box with no one between him and the keeper he’s going to shoot - and most times he should.
Finishing goes up and down in football - it’s just variance. He was great today; another day he walks off with the math ball. When he’s like he was today he’s a one man attack, constant constant threat
