Happy with chasing 224 and I’m sure Morgan won’t mind that. A little bit of movement in the pitch but no demons in it.

I remember that, all lbws they were.  Had his moments when the ball was swinging, and was a fairly decent batsman coming in at 7 or 8 in county cricket.

Just didn't have enough for international level though. If the ball wasn't swinging he was just gun barrel straight military medium which is decent enough at county level but doesn't do that well at the higher level of the game.

Nice enough chap too.

Yeah lovely chap - most disappointed I have ever been at Kent's management when we only offered him a one year contract extension at the end of 2003, and he turned it down, went to Notts, stayed there 6 years and won them a County Championship in 2005, and was their best bowler and all rounder for at least the first 3 years there.

also - he had a very, very good debut test - 6 wickets in the match for 110 (most of any bowler from either side), and a nice 51 from number 6 to take us beyond the 500, marshalling the tail.

Most teams used to have atleast few of those type of players back in the day. Remember Shane Lee, Brett Lee's chubby brother. Played nearly 50 ODI's for one of the best ODI team of all time. There were also likes of Ian Harvey, Robin Singh.
Since we are at it.... Tom Moody, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp.  :D

Didn't see the previous conversation, so thought you were talking about Dominic Cork, right up until "Nice enough chap too". Then again, all of our so-called all-rounders in the 1990s fitted your description.

Hall/Kemp made Kent a fearsome T20 outfit in the mid-late 2000s - at one point we had those two, the hard hitting Stevens, Mclaren, etc. behind Denly/Key at the front, who at the time were probably the best T20  opening pair in the country.

But only Root, and maybe Stokes, that has the technique to overcome the ball movement. We've seen this batting line up fall over recently.

On a serious note, I really enjoyed all the low scoring matches in this world cup. Good balanced contests and skilled batsmen and bowlers came out on top in the end. I can only wish bilateral ODI surfaces were more like this instead of flat ones.

There was this player for India called Vijay Bhardwaj. As kid I used to rate him. Decent with the bat could bowl too. He played 10 ODI's and did really well. Had a bowling average of 19 and batting average of 27. Had a few bad test matches and was never selected again.

When the likes of Robin Singh and Sunil Joshi were key players in our ODI team. I remember being pretty pissed about that as kid.

100%. Low scoring games are always going to more entertaining because one player can smash a quick 50 and turn the game on its head. In games where a team scores 350 batting first, there is a good chance that the chasing team just crumbles and you get a one sided game that is decided in 60 overs.

I’d add Bairstow to that short list too. England’s problem last time was the swinging ball but this seemed to do more off the pitch than in the air. No England fan will ever be confident there isn’t a collapse in us but get through Starc’s opening burst and we should knock them off easily if we bat well. Carey showed that if you don’t bowl in the right areas the ball will go so the Aussies will still have to bowl well if they are to have a chance.

Get through the first 10 overs and make it a 40 over game. Make sure two of Morgan, Bairstow and Root are in after the 10 overs and it should be a breeze.

Yes I think its made the competition much more exciting because it hasn't been a run feast. I don't think any runs records have been broken and I think its been one of the best World Cups in a while. The format has worked well  too I think.

They're about 20 runs short I think.

We should be able to see this through.  Mind you, it is England, so anything is possible.

What's the point of the umpire signalling the powerplay? The entire innings is a powerplay. It's not like before with the batting and bowling powerplays being taken any time etc.

Utterly professional performance so far from these two, one foot in the final already. If Australia don't take a wicket in the next 4 overs or so, it's gone for them.
