Egypt being runner up would see them face the runner up of Group F (Morocco, Congo, Zambia, Tanzania) so they'd likely qualify for the quarter finals regardless.

How long ago was the last afcon?

I remember Sadio winning it but it feels like years ago now.

Hopefully if he does go far it's not extra time in every knockout game again, that was insane.

I hope Mo lights up the tournament. I think one of the reasons he came back a shadow of himself was that every game was a battle. Add the fact they went all the way and came so close would hurt any player. I'd rather he plays well scores and they go out at the quarters simply because they don't have enough quality to back up Mo.

Every possible minute.

90 mins in all 3 group games, then 120 minutes in all 4 knockout games.

Clubs should push FIFA to mandate a maximum of one winter AFCON every four years. The cycle could be:

AFCON summer
12 months (or 18 if WC in middle east)
World Cup
18 months (or 12 if WC in middle east)
AFCON winter
18 months
AFCON summer

Euros is in a proper intl window (i.e. summer) and is once every 4 years. The main bugbear I have with the AFCON (and Copa America for that matter) is the number of tournaments they seem to have often 2-3 in a 4 year cycle.

The other thing I don't understand is why there isn't a proper window for AFCON in the intl calender? Wouldn't it be simple to bring the normal March Intl window forward so it covers some of the tournament? Between that and European winter breaks you could cover 3-4 weeks. That would reduce the club vs country nonsense as all players would be away.

Thanks, Mr Northern Hemisphere! It's summer here right now.

But, yeah, the organisation doesn't seem properly thought through.

Around 90% of the world's population live in the Northern Hemisphere, it makes sense to design the international calendar around that fact.

If Egypt lose to Ghana and Cape Verde beat Mozambique then it's out of their hands.  They'd be dependent on Cape Verde beating Ghana and trusting themselves to beat Mozambique.

Group B seems weak as neither Egypt or Ghana have exactly rocked up with impressive squads.  Ghana look really short of goals; the Ayew brothers are the only players in their squad with double figures in international goals.  If Kudus can carry his West Ham form over then he's their best hope.  The Egypt attack is basically Salah and not a lot else.

Uruguay vs Basque Country  :lmao :lmao :lmao

Please tell me you're joking.

Hopefully Klopp's comments allude to the fact some might be kept behind. I would genuinely think less of some of these players if they decide international friendlies matter when we're trying to win a league title and European trophy. Say your nan has been pushed down the stairs and stay behind for fucks sake we've got a once in a lifetime manager to reward and a couple of more trophies readied for a big end of season party.

I swear Japan is the weirdest country. Home game against North Korea is listed as starting from 19:23 local time  :duh

Also I thought teams can't go and play in North Korea but I guess I was wrong. Mental that these players have to go there.
