Looks like a new 'multi-year' deal to keep Silverstone on the calendar will be signed this weekend

Should put paid to the long mooted London street circuit they keep hinting at

I'd not be surprised to see a London road race at some point too.

It came very very close then.  The rebuild of the pit complex (and more) saved it.  The year that Bernie put the British grad prix in April was an absolute disaster.

And all of Bernie’s making.

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”

I went in 2006 and 2009 and - if I remember correctly - the mood ahead of the latter was very much that it could be the final Silverstone event for a very long time...the plans at the time were to renovate Donnington and move the British GP there.  It may even have been that very weekend that the new 17 year (again, IIRC) deal was signed...presumably original intended to secure Silverstone as hosts until at least 2026.

McLaren have agreed a three year contraxt extension with Lando Norris (presumably securing him up to 2022), as well as an extension (can't find details of the duration) with Carlos Sainz.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/jul/09/lando-norris-new-mclaren-contract-f1-carols-sainz

Great to see the team making progress and looking positively towards the future.  During the last couple of races, they look to have gained a clear nose ahead in the 'race for 4th' and I'm sure will be aiming for 2/3 podiums next season.

Def something a little dodgy going on there.

They only posted a pic of a branded F1 helmet about 45 mins before the announcement.

The guy who runs it is the guy trying to do up the Victoria Road part of New Brighton, putting a lot of money into it too.  Not going to say on here but there's a ton of rumours as to where the money originates from locally and whether the investment is legitimate or not.  Can honestly say that I'd never heard of the company at all before their sponsorship.

Was it these who pulled the plug on a Williams deal at short notice too, to partner with Haas?

I really worry for Williams. Such an iconic name in F1, but propping up the timesheets for the last couple of years they must surely be hemorrhaging money?

lost a couple of sponsors and missed a lot of pre season testing

they are at least .5 a second slower than the next car and thats on a good day.

Russell does look a decent driver but you could have Hamilton and Verstappen in that car and they would struggle

Audiences won’t just drop off like a stone even if shit hits the fan. Would take a few years after then for people to stop going, which by then the 5 years will be up anyway.

In terms of the way the races are laid out over a year I don't really like the current model.  Maybe one or two races change a year at maximum but that's it.  Would much rather see a static 10 to 12 races and add 8 to 10 (totalling 20) from the other circuits and maybe rotate through them biennially.  Say, for example, you had these races annually (until a contract is up anyway):

Melbourne, Montreal, Monza, Silverstone, Suzuka, Austin, Monaco, Spa, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, and Brazil (between Sao Paulo and Rio);

and then having races split between certain circuits such as:

Malaysia and Singapore; Spain and Portugal; Austria and France; Germany and the Netherlands; Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Russia (two of the three each year); Hungary and Turkey; Mexico and Argentina;

And a gap for a race like the Vietnamese GP or one into Africa or the return of India or Korea or something.

Meh, think I'd like it anyway!
