Can't defend that.  Fucking idiot.  10 second penalty at least in my view.

10 seconds penalty when he’s already last. Pointless penalty.

penalties have to be standard though for consistency.

Penalty was about as fair as it could be. I would have gone drive through.

Ferrari probably should have just retired the car

Would that have imposed a penalty for the next race if they done that?

They need to look at it. A grid penalty for the next race would be fairer, but the whole thing is mad. If Max has some damage on his gearbox or engine from the shunt and it needs replacing he could get a grid penalty for that and in essence gets hit again.

Fair chance he'd have won anyway, but the safety car more or less handed him the win.

Good drive by Lewis, but I disagree and think that Bottas would've probably won that without the safety car. Still, all part of the sport and 6 British GP wins is a massive achievement.

Hugely likely he would have, he’d built the pit window gap and was clearly faster today on all sets of tyre. Not sure anyone would disag....oh :D

And Bottas would have needed to stop again while Hamilton had the hard tyres, so even if he came out behind Bottas, he’d still have likely won.

Depends what tyres Hamilton would have come out on if it weren’t for the safety car...

He stayed out longer than Bottas so I think the plan was always to put on the hards and try and make it to the end.

Former England and Manchester United defender Ferdinand has used his Instagram account to support the 34-year-old.

"Lewis Hamilton facing jibes over his Britishness !!! When he lifts the titles he is reported very British...but on the way to winning, throughout the year his patriotism is questioned. Why???", Ferdinand wrote.

"The usual questions are "but you live in Monaco....your accent isn't totally British...your lifestyle travelling and fashion choices...."

"Firstly, most F1 drivers live in Monaco including the likes of our other former world champion Jenson Button. Was Jenson's britishness ever questioned for living in Monaco?? Not a chance.

"I will tell you why – because he looked similar, sounded similar, dressed similar & walked similar to the people who raise these questions of Hamilton.

"The level of disrespect & racist undertones in questioning Hamilton's Patriotism should not be underestimated.

"If you can enjoy your life doing things YOUR WAY, AND WIN, then you are really really winning in life as a British sportsman – but don't forget to talk very British, dress very British, and most importantly live in the UK otherwise there will be questions on your patriotism!

"We should all celebrate a champion who is One Of Our Own! @lewishamilton #F1."
