I just want him to play all the time. I love the way we’ve been managing him though.

Mate went to me after the strike "when does he score from outside the box?" immediately thought what are you on about, west brom chip goal! then realised that was probably 2013. Poor guys best years were robbed of him. So happy for Daniel

I love Danield Sturridge. Have been taking note of him from City to Chelsea to Bolton to Chelsea, was disappointed when we did not get him in exchange for Torres and was elated when we finally got him. A great finisher without a doubt. He is today fitter than he had ever been since the piling up of injuries after the great 13-14 season.

He now has a role for this team. He is our impact sub that we will throw in when we need goals as we did last night. He will start in some games when appropriate. He will be the main option along with Shaqiri when one of Firmino, Mane or Salah is not available. This is the right role for him ... both for him and for the team. That wonderful goal last night nor his current scoring form should not change our view of him at this stage of his career

You know what, I haven't quite celebrated a goal like that for a while. Maybe the last ones were Phil's goal against the Mancs, which actually took a couple of seconds for me to even register because it was that good and Lovren's header at the death against Dortmund. The front 3 have been so good and so clinical that it has almost become expected that they score goals. This one though, the timing of it and the magnitude of it cannot be underestimated. It gave a huge lift to everyone.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

You're 29 now, Daniel. Retire from international football and try to extend your career. The Euros are two years away, you'll be 31.
Sturridge's big injuries have come during internationals. Be sensible and fuck that shit off.

He has the Dalglish one. It mightn't be as catchy and clever as some others, but it's a special chant reserved for special players, and Daniel is the perfect torchbearer for it.

St. John, Kenny, Torres, Sturridge (think Fowler had it as well).

Absolutely stunning goal. 2013/14 Sturridge style. He's not quite the same style of player as he was then, his game has adapted to his physical changes but that's not a negative. He looks the best he has since that season and I'm really excited to see him play more.

His technique is astounding. I feel for him, one can only wonder what the last 4 years would look like without the injuries. He has amazing natural talent. To come off the bench and score a goal like that is incredible, it looks effortless for him. I think a lot of teams and defenders have forgotten how clinical he is in those intervening, injury plagued years. That may last a little longer with luck.

I didn't like him not celebrating though. Not like it is his boyhood club of something.

Fluke a goal which was meant to be a cross?
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Struggling to think of another player who could score that type of goal. That was vintage and original Sturridge. Love the little look up before he hits it.

Can't believe how long he has been here and he only has 50 league goals. If he hadn't have had such a torrid time with injuries he'd have double that.

Even more of a worldie when you put it like that too. And to do it with not long left and the magnitude of the game and moment. That's why Sturridge is as good as he is and his talent has never deserted him despite his failing body. He has footballing arrogance which he showed with the sheer audacity of that strike. The cheeky bastard.
