bah, ah well, I learnt something new today there!

Not a bad thing considering VVDs suspension.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting Real Madrid in the next round. It wouldn't make up for the debacle in May, but going over there after stuffing them at Anfield (without VVD) and smashing them again to knock them out would give me a lovely feeling of slight revenge.

If Salah could skin Ramos 3 times for a hat-trick and somehow then injure him as well - accidentally of course - then it'd be even sweeter.

As it stands I don't fear anyone waiting in the next round, I have a sneaky feeling we'll draw Dortmund, and that'd be one hell of a tie and potentially the trickiest of the lot but there's nobody there that puts any fear into me.

Juve are most peoples pick, yet even United can beat them in their own ground with arguably the worst team they've had since the 80s. Barca don't look anywhere near the force they've been before and aren't really that great in Europe anyway. Atletico, meh - just a case of breaking them down - nothing to worry about over two legs. Bayern, finished. So it genuinely is only Dortmund I hope we avoid as I'd rate that as a 50/50 tie given the history there and the fact they're great going forward and we'll be missing VVD (possibly Gomez too if he doesn't come back quick enough)

I'll jump for joy if we get Madrid, I'd have absolutely no worries we wouldn't steamroll through them now and dumping them out on their own turf would be hilarious.

Whoever we get, the CL is wide open for someone to go grab it, I can't think of many seasons it's been so hard to see a definite favourite as all the big teams have issues, even if we pull PSG again later down the line I don't think the team will have any fears of them and getting City again wouldn't be as frightening as it would be for foreign teams as we've shown we can dispatch them with ease many times. There's not one stand out team for me, everyone barring United and Porto could win it, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see United fluke it and get Porto so at least one of the completely dogshit sides would get through to another round, which of course would be United to save the odious ones job for another month (assuming he's still there after Sunday)

United beating Juve away was the flukiest fluke, play that game 10 more times, wont happen. Would ideally want to avoid Juve and Barcelona. Juve have it easy in Serie A (already pretty comfortable ahead of Napoli) which is a massive advantage in terms of preparation for champions league plus obviously they are a very good team. Bayern had this advantage pretty much every year but a bit down in dumps this season and will be Muller-lite.
Barcelona, I feel comfortable our style trumps them but still got to respect Messi. It would be really nice to have them at Anfield and beat a team with Coutinho/Suarez but purely from a probability perspective, this is not the best match up for a round of 16 game. A semifinal/final match would be much better.
RM on the other hand, its a good time to play them and would be a sweet payback.

Mueller isn't a key component of the team according to the resident BuLi watchers.

Also, Müller will be suspended for both legs after his shockingly clumsy tackle in the Ajax game that earned him a straight red.

Just a little fun. I think we'll get Bayern and I got them in the simulator too. Here's what I got:

Atletico V Man City
Roma V Paris
Liverpool V Bayern
Lyon V Real Madrid
Man United V Dortmund
Tottenham V Juventus
Schalke V Barcelona
Ajax V Porto

So we can get either Dortmund, Barcelona, Porto, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Juventus.

None of those sides are easy, with the obvious gulf in class coming in Porto - although they have been superb this year, too. Whilst I'm slightly bricking it facing any of those sides away from home, I feel confident with the home leg. Just a massive, massive shame that we play away from home in the second leg and we have Van Dijk suspended for the home one.

I have a hunch we'll get Barcelona.

Dortmund are amazing this season and they'd tear United to shreds. Although that's not that much of an ask these days anyway.  ;D

Porto, Real, Bayern, Dortmund, Juventus, Barcelona.

Its going to be a hell of a fixture whoever we get.

I'd like to avoid Juve and Barcelona. The rest I'll feel confident about.

Ideally Porto please. Would like to see United get Dortmund and lose 8-0 on aggregate. The masters of the 0 net spend vs "I'm so poor" Jose would be hilarious.

In any case, it's not going to be an easy round, no matter who we face - but still, we're more than good enough to beat them.

11 i think

Probably nearer 3 p.m. after UEFA's attempts at 'razzamatazz' with an gurning ex pro and the self congratulatory UEFA love in ! Doubtless there will be representatives of all the top clubs sitting there looking totally fed up and wanting it over and done with. They will spend 30 mins just explaining how it works !

I actually don’t mind Juve that much, i feel like Bayern despite a terrible showing in Bundesliga, will be a big theead in CL.

Having seen Dortmund swarm them to death last month, I don't think I agree with you. They are old in key positions,
therefore perfect fodder to Herr Klopp and pals!

In order of preference :

1) Porto
2) Madrid
3) Bayern
4) BVB
5) Juve
6) Barca

I think we'll twat the first 3. BVB will be a super match. Juve Barca we might lose because of 2 reasons : VVD not playing first leg, and 2nd leg being away. Still I think we'll qualify.
