Beta is out today if anyone's interested.

Going to stay away and wait until full release after the last few being riddled with some awful bugs.

I wasn't too fussed about it. Then I saw the new dynamics and such and it's definitely piqued my interest.

Don't know whether to buy now and dive straight into the beta or not..

Will be buying this as soon as it comes out. Not had one for 2 years and mixed with working from home a lot it makes sense. I got at least 700 hours playing time from each one before.

Football manager badly needs some proper competition. I feel SI have become really lazy. Couple of nice changes in this game, but nothing earth-shattering. Really wish Codemasters hadn't done away with LMA manager.

Yeah LMA was really good. Wasn't as in-depth but I liked the menu's, it was a bit slicker. Even fifa manager and premier manager weren't bad. The best you'll get now is some unlicensed game made by a small indie dev or an app where you get to play 5 games a day unless you spend real money.

Skipped 2017 cos I had a great save going on 2016 that I just couldn't quit (turned lfc into an unstoppable machine with multiple unbeaten seasons across a 20 season career) but took the plunge and spent a bit of time on the beta last night.

It doesn't run anywhere near as quick as 2016 did on my laptop, and I'm not a fan of some of the changes (background music? Least you can turn it off) and the social media feed seems tacky. So far not a fan but think I just need to get used to it. Every transfer is a crazy price too!

CDkeys.com does not have the beta, just as you know.

And yes, when you activate a game on Steam it's connected to your account and can be re-downloaded.

Anyone got any GK and CB ideas for Liverpool on this? ;D

You would think in theory that Karius will have a high enough Potential to warrant just throwing him into the first XI anyway.

Liverpool starts with a big budget so I went all in and bought Aymeric Laporte (Ł58m release clause). Totally worth it. I then got an offer for Markovic which gave me enough to purchase Timo Horn (Ł15.5m release clause).

Daniel Rugani is also possible to buy for Ł30m or close to it.

I posted this in the FM Reddit page. Based on the responses around the news articles I think this highlights why something like this needs to be included in the game. We need to normalise gay people in football. There is no way there are zero top flight PL players that are gay, no way on Earth. People can cry and moan about it but the more this becomes normal, as in as a part of a massively played game, the better. If it changes one persons mind then it's done its job by all accounts

Who cares? They added female staff previously and it surely won't be long before they incorporate some teams from the major women's leagues and women's international sides.

I don't really see why it's relevant to refer to a computer generated footballer's sexuality in the context of the game at all (I note they've never done so before ) but anyone who is "upset" by this needs to get a life.

To be honest I don't care if football manager games have players that are made out of jelly babies. They can make everyone gay for all i care. Has no effect on gameplay.

I still think they should have done it in a different way. Because a player specifically coming out as gay and it even giving your team a merchandise boost makes it something out of the ordinary again. It's good that they decided to tackle the issue, but I would have liked it better if they had used it in a way that doesn't make being gray "stand out". One possibility would have been to have a random message about a player marrying and the team or certain players getting a morale boost by it, because they enjoyed the wedding. And then just do it like "Your defender Carl Random got married to the love of his life Mary/Kate/John. The wedding was awesome." No further comment, no matter what the spouse's gender is. That would have been "normal"...

Clunky how? I usually only ever hear games where your controlling an individual and the movement is clunky, not smooth etc

Do you mean like it's sluggish or disjointed, like the different screens?

There are some issues with slow menus and player profiles taking a couple seconds to load. One patch have already addressed this problem for some and I'm sure they will fix it at launch for most. There was a similar issue last year during the beta and it was quickly patched.

This is interesting. I couldn't play FM17 on my work-laptop because it was too laggy, even in the menus but for some strange reason I can play FM18 even with 3D on (lowest settings).

It does feel a bit clunky to me but I'm still enjoying it, as always.

I like to go teams who are either managerless in real life or possibly on the verge of sacking their manager, so went with West Brom because I thought it could be fun to completely change their style of play and put my own stamp on the team. Not many good players interested in signing though, signed Dembele from Celtic and brought in Markovic and Okaka on loan, the rest of my signings were youth players.

Aye so true  ;D

End up selling 5/6 in your first team squad, load of reserves, do a load of scouting, put in a load of offers, sort formation out, sign some staff members. All good fun.

Used to love these games, but they're just a fucking killer for time.
