They could spend £400m and they would still get it wrong. The public policy I think I’ve heard from them is hungry young players who they can develop along with big money / marquee type signings. The latter, if they are any good, won’t go near this united side. The former will be more of the Wan Bissaka and James mould (Maddison is probably the top end of this), which given their track record of identifying the right (or wrong) ones and actually being able to improve them seems like a recipe for more mediocrity.

Having money and out spending everyone only works if there's a plan to work from otherwise all that happens is they get young, hungry mercenaries instead of old, bloated mercenaries.

Those early 20 somethings wanting to improve, train and play alongside world class players, be coached by a world class manager and win big trophies will come to us on peanuts knowing those wages will increase.

All they can offer is lots more money at an earlier age.

I agree.  I think they will just keep throwing money at it.  If they sell Pogba they could have a huge kitty. They will give Ole the chance i reckon and not sack until the money has been spent and he fails or whatever..

pretty sure we had a bigger wage bill than them in the 90s, They just had some top quality youngsters come through their academy who didn’t do dickhead stuff and moved with the times which saved them money, and when they bought big the did it better than us eg cole v collymore

Report reveals Ferguson’s ‘devastated’ reaction to Man Utd loss
