He does have an opportunity to play quite a few games in the upcoming season, especially with league and fa cup. it also depends what happens with Ings and origi and how the former recovers and if the latter is still here.

Maybe so. But I'm not basing that opinion on just a pre-season game against Tranmere. I think he's a better fit for Klopp's way of attacking, simple.

I think he's got a chance to oust firmino as the season goes on, im aware not many agree with me on this tho, so I'll await the ridicule.
I do think it's a bit of a long shot but sometimes these players have a jump out season.

I don't think many will ridicule as he does look like an outstanding young player but he's got a long way to go to beat Firmino

He needs to oust Firmino then Sturridge and then Origi though.

He'll see minutes in the cup games and a few sub appearances in the league but can't see him jumping ahead of those three this season.

I suspect it will take months for Ings to get his form back, even once physio's give him the 100% fit sign off. Most likely scenario is Solanke and Origi will rotate in the busy weeks, Ings will compete with them from xmas on.

Not at all. I see us lining up something like this, first game of the season:

INGS     ORIGI     STURRIDGE
SOLANKE     FIRMINO     (New forward, AUBAMEYANG?)     SALEH
   KENT     COUTINHO     WOODBURN
KEITA (rush goalie)

Coutinho playing a bit deeper, Firmino free to roam behind the front three

I'm confused.

It would be insane to make Rush goalie, complete waste of his talents, he's a forward player.

INGS      STURRIDGE     RUSH    ORIGI   SOLANKE    (New forward, AUBAMEYANG?)      OJO
        FIRMINO         SALEH
KENT      COUTINHO       WOODBURN

Maybe see him leading the line in a front seven between Sturridge and Origi, perhaps lining up something like that

Everything I have read about his time at Chelsea makes me think he has bucket loads of potential. I just hope he is allowed to reach it and isn't hero worshipped after a few good kicks against a conference side in pre season.

We don't half like to build someone up to then call them out a few weeks later. Origi was better than Lukaku according to some lfc fans 12 months ago

I know I'll get jumped on for jinxing it but as soon as I saw this kid I listened to the Aubameyang talk and thought we don't need him because we've just bought him.

I think Solanke will play much more this season than anyone is predicting. His cameo yesterday doesn't dissuade me of that. Hopefully he'll be immense. /endjinx

I reckon you're right on it there. He'll play a lot more games than some people envisaged.

The mark of a natural striker.  Looks very promising but obviously still early.

Smart signing for the club..
If he delivers.. great job by the TC..
If he doesn't.. then not too much lost.. He can be sold and whatever little money we spent can be recouped..

Having seen glimpses of him.. I think he can force his way through as long as he keeps his head down and takes his chances when they come..

Not the quickest, but already seems to be the second best natural finisher at the club after Sturridge..

Early days but signs are there that he could be competing with Origi for the backup role.

I'd be disappointed if he weren't to be honest. As I think would he.

I also think there'll be games where we want to play a diamond, where he would be an effective partner for Origi or Sturridge.

In games where Firmino's pressing is less valuable, and we need the best finishers on the pitch, that might be a good option.

This guy is our version of Costa. His stride, his hassling off the ball, his shot and tenacity are all very much similar to Costa. I hope he gets his chances this season, because given the chances, he will score goals. What a finish. As someone said, he didnt even look up.

And because the flick from Origi was two or three yards behind where he was making his initial run, he had to move away from goal and run around the ball. And then still didn't look up.

I think that actually benefited him as it gave him the space to turn and more space from the defender but as soon as he did go after that ball, there was only one thing on his mind

That's true; the point was more that he didn't just 'not look up' as a player might when moving straight onto a ball, but after he'd had to move away from goal and turning towards it; and then found the far corner perfectly. The next might go ten yards wide of course, but it does hint at a striker's instinctive feel for where the goal is. Good spatial awareness.

Not at all. I see us lining up something like this, first game of the season:

INGS     ORIGI     STURRIDGE
SOLANKE     FIRMINO     (New forward, AUBAMEYANG?)     SALEH
   KENT     COUTINHO     WOODBURN
KEITA (rush goalie)

Coutinho playing a bit deeper, Firmino free to roam behind the front three

no Mané...?
