That Milner - what a machine - fitter than a lad 10 years younger who's recently come off a major tournament
Shows you why he is so valued by Klopp.

Good to see Solanke thriving in his first training session.

Not actually sure they showed it, or caught it, cos I didn't notice it. I'm just going on what Kloppo said, and he gave an impression of Ben's very firm 'no'.  :D He was laughing about in in the post match interview.

Chelsea, a glorified puppy farm. We will steal him for less than £6m and every time he scores they will fume. The club will offer to pay them with a payment card, so they can say "do you accept plastic?"

A glorified puppy farm? Is this envy because Chelsea are regularly turning out the best youngsters, collectively, in the country?
Solanke was at Chelsea since age 8, of course they've invested a lot of money in him, they do all their youngsters. They invest in their schooling too, having a full time school at their academy where the players do all their academic education, A Levels, etc. It's part of the reason their academy does so well, because of the large investment.

Do they take plastic? Dunno, but they do credit to for those smaller clubs (financially) that need it.

Good luck with that. They'll immediately be asked why the didn't give him ANY minutes over the past year if they rate him that highly.
Burnley were within their right to ask what they did because of his market value, goals scored and games played but it's the complete opposite with this one.

Just to further the case Chelsea paid 3.5m (potentially rising to 8.5) in a tribunal in 2010 for Sturridge who'd already played a number of senior games for City.

They'll get something similar to that I'd think.

They will tell them the reason he didn't play at all last season was because he was in dispute with the club, nothing to do with ability.
Transfer prices have risen since 2010, the market has inflated, so I dunno how much of a guide Sturridge would be.

I don't mean this to bash Origi. Because I'm not. I just honestly feel like he'll take over from him as our go-to option this year. Seems a lot more direct, constantly makes those runs in behind and releases the ball quickly.

Origi is a good young player, but I feel like Solanke is more of a Klopp striker. Again, I hope Origi proves me wrong and I'm not just using Origi to make Solanke seem a better player, but I think he's got a lot more aggression in his game than Origi. If Origi improves that part of his game this season, I'll be made up.

Can see why we bought him, looks like a fucking pain to defend against. He's constantly on the move and seems to do what young strikers are taught 'make yourself difficult to mark'. Reminds me of Sturridge a bit in the way he sometimes looks to come short get involved and spin in behind after laying the ball off but sometimes waits on the shoulder of the last man

Great movement and excellent technique/first touch - that is a good base to build on. On other hand physicality and upper body strength are already obvious areas he'll need to work on this year. With 3 9s ahead of him in the pecking order he'll need to make full advantage of any minutes he gets.

Talk about jumping the gun. Solanke has a lot to prove before he could get close to replacing Origi in the squad. Glad he had a good first game.

I will declare I'm a Chelsea fan, so if anyone who wants can get the 'plastic' 'rent boy 'cockney git' friendly gestures out the way first, ta.

Right, I just wanted to say about how Solanke joined Chelsea at 8 years old along with RLC, Aina, Dasilva, Tammy Abraham, & quite a few others. They all came through the age groups at the academy together. Right from an early age they were winning competitions until eventually they topped it all off with winning the FA Youth Cup & the Uefa Youth CL double in 2013/14. They then repeated this double the following season 2014/15 & Solanke scored in every round of both competitions & finished the top scorer in both competitions.
Although Solanke is only 3 weeks older than Tammy Abraham (so basically same age) Solanke was always ahead of Abraham in the pecking order, he was 1st choice, certainly from the U16 age, & Abraham was 2nd choice. You have to give Chelsea some begrudging credit for producing these two from the age of 8 (well, I suppose you don't HAVE to, I understand that's not easy).
It is because Solanke was ahead of Abraham that he went out on loan first, to Vitesse, where he did well, scoring 7 goals in 25 gms, might not sound great but trust me, he impressed club officials over all.
I'm sure both these strikers will go on to have a good career, & I certainly wish Solanke well & will be watching him closely.

Cheers, KTBFFH

Maybe so. But I'm not basing that opinion on just a pre-season game against Tranmere. I think he's a better fit for Klopp's way of attacking, simple.

Welcome and good to have an opinion from someone who will have seen Solanke more than most (if not all) of us. Think it was fairly obvious from your previous post that you were a Chelsea fan to be honest. I think everyone knows that along with Man City you have the strongest academy teams in the country, however there doesn't seem to be a pathaway into the first team for all those talented youngsters which renders all that good work useless unless you're just looking to make a few quid out of those players when they turn 20. The puppy farm comment you saw was probably related to that perception that these youngsters are developed for the profit at the end to help FFP calculations rather than the Chelsea first team. After all why develop a Diego Costa when you can buy a ready made one with all that money you have. Personally I think you'll lose a few more in the manner you've lost Solanke before you have one that becomes a fixture in the first team.

I know I'll get jumped on for jinxing it but as soon as I saw this kid I listened to the Aubameyang talk and thought we don't need him because we've just bought him.

I think Solanke will play much more this season than anyone is predicting. His cameo yesterday doesn't dissuade me of that. Hopefully he'll be immense. /endjinx
