Many on here have suggested Coutinho plays a deeper role for quite a while. No surprise that he's quality in that role. I'd start him there all the time. Lallana is a good back up to have too.
Thank Fowler we're not getting Caulker

You could really say the same about this forum. We've a thread every week for premier league games and the same type of things get posted.

Anyone who doesn't join in saying the most ridiculous statements about them is a Manc.

Just watched the highlights again...
Carragher going on and on about negative shit. trying to be 'contentious' and 'stimulate debate' -possibly. Talking bollocks - certainly.
A great servant as a player but as a commentator he is channeling Neville as his role model.
Why care what he's saying? It's for Sky, of course he's talking bollocks.

How unbelievably fantastic to see us go 1-0 up, dominate a game and then kill it off?

I had forgotten what that looked like for LFC to be honest, haven't seen that ruthlessness for a long time. I think we have to take that into Middlesbrough - even with Firmino fit but that appears to be touch and go at the moment.

That performance should give everyone confidence within that side. And hopefully have a knock on affect to the fans, who should be up for the occasion, to see the team home.

Sturridge was brilliant, his movement is first class - he was always an option to receive the ball, whether he drifted to the channels, dropped deep or played off the shoulder. No-one else gives us that.

Little Phil was the star IMO. What a special player. I will be devastated if he isn't here next season. Hopefully he will stay and hopefully we will have CL football for him to play in.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself yesterday. First half was uncomfortable. Ayew last kick in added time in the first half almost killed me.  I am not sure how he missed the goal from 2 yards out. He seemed to aim for the post.  ;D

Once 2nd half got going, things looked totally different. Will take 0-4 any day. C'mon redmen, let's do the same next Sunday. We must finish strong and end on a high note at Anfield. We have everything to play for and M'dbro players' minds are already at the holiday resorts.  No excuse!

And thanks to the West Ham players who didn't really show up yesterday at all. Not taking anything from our performance and the result. But injuries or not they didn't really put up any fight against us.

Got to start looking to rotate him more though. Hard to imagine any player putting the physical effort he does for much longer if he has to do it 40 odd times a season at his age.

Sat in the home end yesterday and never doing it again. Seeing our fans celebrate and not being in the middle of it all was difficult to take!

Great performance from the Redmen without really hitting top gear. West Ham were poor and we can have had a few more when you consider the chances that hit the woodwork and some of the free headers we had from corners etc.

West Ham fans were leaving with 20 mins to go.  Not a fan of the stadium, atmosphere was crap and the pitch is too far away from the stand.

Praying we get the job done against Boro!

He explained his rationale during the post-match interview. He said the idea was to create space for Phil to play in and spray passes rather than having two or three players marking him. Lallana playing 10 is a more energetic player than Coutinho that'll run the channels and bring more height into the equation for taking the pass down. Though, I got the impression that Klopp might swap them around in a different game situation where energy is more important in the middle itself.

Exactly, and he hinted that he would do this in the days leading up to the game. Obviously it was a reaction to the way Coutinho (and Firmino) were dropping deep to collect the ball against Soton. The problem with Coutinho dropping deep last week was that we didn't have enough players further up with the necessary movement for Coutinho to find with passes (esp in the 1st half). Yday we had Lallana, Sturridge, Gini & Origi to aim at and occupy the defenders.

I think it will be similar against Boro

Bilic was also fairly magnanimous in defeat to, didn't grumble too much about their pen appeal and our subsequent goal. Merely disappointed in his own team yesterday and complimentary to our game. Fair play to him to that he is not like a bunch of other sore loser managers I've heard this year.

Morning All,

Think Sunday could see quite a decent game if we turn up, however wouldn't be surprised to see yourselves win quite comfortably.

The reason being, our pitch kills us, we have picked up seven wins at home this term, and only one of those was against one of the "big sides" Spurs last Friday. Spurs who struggled in Europe at home (Wembley) on a big pitch. Spurs were possibly the first side to look as lost as we have, which was nice to see for obvious reasons.

Liverpool will be able to make use of the space much like City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton did. We are still getting used to the size of the pitch, I think there is only about 10 metres of difference, but Christ has it made a difference. They had to extend the pitch to make the gaps between fans shorter though, the board spun us so many lies about sight lines, and the distance being the same as The Boleyn, they have had to sacrifice a pitch that our team was used to playing on. I shan't bore you with an endless rant about the Porn Barrens and that Tory shite Brady. However please do not be fooled into thinking that 85% of West Ham fans wanted the move which Gold spouts at any given opportunity. It is a lie.

Hope you enjoy your trek South, by all accounts the view from the away end is pretty shit, and you feel far from the action, just count your blessings you don't have to go every other week.

Finally, keep the fight up against Patrick Barclay, how such an odious twat can make comments about the SCUM journalists being treated unfairly is quite frankly sickening. What you have achieved is nothing short of amazing. JFT96

Good Afternoon,

Well as I said, I could see you winning quite comfortably, and that you did. We were bloody awful, think that win against Spurs was the signal for ourselves to get in holiday mode. I mean they more than deserve it, after such a great season....

Coutinho deservedly taking the plaudits, ran the show. Such a clever player, quick, both footed and more than effective in front of goal. Also thought the lad Matip did very well, not anything spectacular, but made sure we didn't have a sniff.

Sturridge took his goal very well, but looked a bit mythed about being taken off. I liked the commentator who said his injury record is something that concerns Liverpool, he then went on to say "but West Ham might be interested" of course we bloody would.

Hope you claim 4th spot, Wenger seems to be upset about us lying down, unfortunately we weren't lying down. We are just bloody awful.

Also Jurgen is a top bloke, a few years back we went over to Dortmund and tried to get a tour round the ground, got there and they said there was no space. Luckily one of the guys who did it, said slip him a few Euro and he would show us the press room, and the pitch. Only wanted to see the pitch. As we walked down some corridor, Mr Klopp appeared and started chatting to us. Told him where we were from and who we followed. Had an outstanding knowledge of West Ham, and British football in general. Had a few photos and then he showed us the pitch. Not from the stand, but the actual touch line. Really incredible gesture, and shows him for what he is.

All the best for next season. JFT96

echo the sentiments on carragher. it was interesting watching lallana in the 10 role his movement and game intelligence are exceptional and with is ability to press he can do a great job in a number of different roles depending on the formation jurgen decides to play. a great player for me and even with the season he has had i still think he is underrated amongst our own and other footy fans.

Wenger cracks me up - after managing a putrid season his team finally starts winning against the cannon fodder where we could also easily say thanks Manc, Soton, Stoke for lying down against Arsenal - and now he is crying about another team's performance on the heels of the display by Stoke? That's precious.

That's a great post. I know you have a bit of rivarly with Spurs so its not a surprise there wasn't the same zip about your performance. Also you had a lot of injuries, you've won quite a few against us recently as well. I just think we had something to really aim for, and hopefully we can finish the job on Sunday.

Great little story about meeting Klopp in Dortmund as well. Dortmund were a lot of people's second club on here as well, so cool you got to meet him. Doesn't surprise me he knew a lot about West Ham, he knew a lot about us when he started the job too, suspect he did a bit of homework before coming  here.

Glad West Ham are safe they are one of the proper football clubs.

Amazing performance.. Top 4 is almost there, hopefully no fuckups.

Whatever happens, we have made massive progress this season. We now have a distinct and identifiable style of play. We dominate possession in most games, but also use quick transitions to beat defensive opponents. It works and it will get better.

Loving the way we hog the ball in most games.  Hell, we've outpassed a Pep Guardiola team this season which is an achievement in itself.

Highest number of passes in the league ahead of Man City, ahead of City and Arsenal this season.

What are the figures for that?

Many on here have suggested Coutinho plays a deeper role for quite a while. No surprise that he's quality in that role. I'd start him there all the time. Lallana is a good back up to have too.

According to Phil Thompson us fans were raging about the thought of Coutinho playing in a deeper role.

God I wish we could have won 4 - 0 and Coutinho had a stinker. Every time he scores I fear he's getting one goal closer to Barcelona as it was the biggest part missing from his game but he's on 13 goals now. Hopefully we can prise one more year out of him but you have to admit he is THE perfect replacement for Iniesta.

Oh well not worth thinking about - 3 points. Bring on Boro!

Barca don't need another attacking midfielder, their problem is they can't defend, they need defenders and who can defend and another midfielder who can protect the back 4

Glad West Ham are safe they are one of the proper football clubs.

Slowly losing that though, sure many of your lot won't go back to the athletics track. Made a good noise though!

It's a shame you left Upton Park, it was a cracking ground that with a very hostile atmosphere it had to be said. It's difficult with so many old grounds being lost, there was a lot of division with our fans, over whether to leave Anfield or not. I am quite happy we stayed to be honest. Too many of the new grounds just seem devoid of any special atmosphere. You have a problem which is common, with these grounds, fans too far away from the pitch. A shame football is going this way, all about money money sadly.

All the best for next season. JFT96

Nice post that mate. There are a couple of good West Ham fans on here, it wouldn't be bad to have another. Stick around.

Does any body have any idea what Sturridge said to Klopp a few minutes after Origi didnt pass to him and just before he was subbed?
Heres my guess:

"Can you sub Origi as hes not passing to me at all".  :lickin

Finally got a final score prediction accurate!
Started off a bit nervy, but slowly settled into the game and by the end could have walked away with 6 goals to our name.
Confidence booster for the lads, now let's roll on our final game of the season and prove to ourselves that faltering at the last hurdle is a thing of the past.

After the past few years it would give the team and the club so much confidence if we get over the line.

Definitely. We haven't finished anything in years and years.

The two cup finals last year. Rodger's last full season where we were consistently awful and fell out to Villa of all teams in the FA Cup semi-final. You could argue that while we achieved our pre-season goal in 2014 of reaching the top four, we didn't cross the line of the real opportunity we were presented with.

This so clear cut. Our goal before the season was to reach the top four, we're one win away from doing it. I remember saying at the time that if we were to win the Europa League it would draw a line under a few years worth of heartache. This is another chance to do the same. The team have a chance to finish something, to achieve their goal. If they manage it it will be an invaluable experience moving forward.

Knew it was looking good when the West Ham team walked onto the pitch carrying babies and such like.

They may as well have walked on wearing speedos and a lilo under their arm

Although I still couldn't fully relax until we went 3 up.

Also a nice rousing 'always the victim' chant from the Olympic Stadium faithful. The same nob eds were nowhere to be seen during the teams  lap of honour to a few hundred people at the end.  It must have been excruciatingly embarrassing for all concerned.

What are the figures for that?
https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/total_pass?se=54

21538 passes for us. 21400 for City.

Arsenal 3rd with 20413 passes for the season...

This is our best midfield since 09. Don't think anyone really dominated us this season.
