Stevie will earn £20m per year. No person is turning that down lads.

If I have nothing and someone offers me £20m, then yeah I'd consider it. But if I already have £20m, why the hell would I need another £20m? What on Earth do these people need this kind of money for? What are they spending it on?

I realise people in Gerrards position operate differently to the rest of us, but there comes a point where it's just numbers on a balance sheet.
I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.

Stevie is apparently worth around £75m. He doesn’t need 20m more. And it’s not as if he can’t earn what to you an I is ridiculous money back home.

Fuck him if he takes this job. Greed over principle. Over human rights.

Let's be honest, which league is going to be paying him 20m quid. Rooney's salary in MLS is $1m.

Why does he need 20m?!?

At the end of the day it does not affect anyone on this forum where he does his business. Why not the outrage for his daughter's alleged links to a gangster.

There was. And there was also criticism of Stevie hanging around Dublin with members of the Kinahan Cartel. I even referenced it in my own reply here:

This is a horrible decision from Gerrard, and only marginally less grim than going around about town with Irish gangsters.

Also do find it a tad bit funny that there was limited similar derision (at least not quite as universal or scathing) when Rafa chose to sell out and go to work in China in 2019. I expect Gerrard's managerial experience in Saudi to be similarly mediocre.

Never thought I'd ever say this but it makes me respect Wayne Rooney's decision to coach in Washington.

With respect, no one here is but Stevie is already extremely wealthy. Not so worried about mortgage payments he could quite easily have turned this down.

The tax rate for foreigners in Saudi Arabia is zero? So he'll be taking home £20mil in a year. I guess the alternative is a job in the Championship that pays him £1mil before tax (500k a year after tax). I'm sure everyone on this forum would turn down a x40 increase in their take home income  ;)

Not really much when you see what the players are getting is it? A past it defensive midfielder who's never fit is about to get 86m a year.

Saudi simply have way too much money, more than anyone realistically needs. That's why they're throwing it away like this. Ped will go there next and make a billion over three years like Messi was offered.

As for Gerrard, doesn't affect me in anyway so it is what it is. Most of our ex-players are dickheads anyway.

Disappointing decision from him. Once you've taken their money, it's hypocritical to criticise or scrutinise their human rights records, attitudes to LGBTQ+ et al.

It's all sportswashing, and now a club legend is part of it.
