As far as I can see the players going to the AFCON will only miss Home to Brentford and Away to Palace.  (plus Cup home to Shrewsbury)

I keep hearing the media going on about how Liverpool will struggle to maintain a title challenge, but only missing those two games should not be a problem?  Am I missing something here???
That sounds positive.

Will they need to 'acclimatise' when they return though (from hot Africa to freezing England) so won't be able to simply slot back into the next game that rolls around?

I have full faith that in the absence of Mo and Sadio, our front line of Origi, Jota and A.N. Other should see us through adequately.

I guess you haven't read the articles where they say that players should join their squads no later than Boxing Day. That puts two/ three more League fixtures without them, plus the Cup games if we beat Leicester in the quarters. Could be up to 7/8 games in all.

Not sure if anything is decided.

Not sure if anything is decided.

The only deciding that needs to be done is calling it off.

Ridiculous to go ahead under current circumstances.

You can fairly safely say that the more unreasonable and crazy it is to play it, the more likely it is to go ahead. See the Nations League games and international friendlies in the past year.

I bet that not only will they play it - players who play will have to quarantine for 10 days after finishing too before rejoining their teams. Good times!

Thing is CAF could point out that the Euros and in particular the Copa America were held this year. Common sense will prevail if it is cancelled, but other tournaments should have been binned too to make things as safe and simplified as possible

Generally I agree, but there is the matter of the new variant which makes this tournament in particular a target currently.

I agree they all should have been binned, but there is a defense available to the authorities for banning only this one

CAF quite strong in dismissing reports the Africa Cup of Nations will be postponed or cancelled - calling it "fake news", "lies" and insisting "it has never been discussed." Preparations have been continuing in Cameroon and Sky Sports have announced they will show all games live

It's going to be played eventually so, selfishly, now's as good a time as any.  The UK has lifted all travel restrictions and quarantine-on-arrival rules so the players will at most miss two games.  Those two games are also against teams that will be losing players to AFCON.

I'm not particularly that interested in international football but that's more when England are involved as every game gets talked about in the light of how it reflects upon or impacts upon the mighty Eng-er-land.  I will try to watch the AFCON games where our players are involved.

Even if it does go ahead, it seems utterly idiotic and negligent if "it has never been discussed" is actually true and not simply hyperbole, why wouldn't you carry out disaster and contingency planning for any significant situations that could disrupt your event?

Right now, it doesn’t help African players or teams.  Surely fifa can work out a football Calendar that supports all nations?

Hopefully Naby and Sadio are teaching Mo a few handy phrases in preparation then, we don't need to be worrying about a war as well as injuries for fuck's sake!
