Simeone is such an outdated manager Atletico we're 3-1 down got it back to 3-3 have all the momentum in the game he takes off Greizmann and Morata to go more defensive and they end up losing 4-3.

The Modern day game is all about having a brave attitude and playing to win the game and that's why Atletico Madrid are in a top four battle and Girona are challenging for the league.

Perhaps.  On the other hand Simeone is getting an absolute tune out of Griezemann who given his age really has no ability to play in a more modern front foot pressing style.  So a modern thinking manager would probably never have had Griezemann on the field to begin with given his legs are practically gone.  I just don't think it's ever as straight forward as saying playing with a 'brave attitude' makes them title challengers.

But I agree on the sentiment that Simeone's time is up and Atleti should have turfed him a long time ago.

Girona are owned by the Man City group aka Abu Dhabi, they ain't no fairytale.

Didn't know that, but looking at their squad, no matter who the owner is, they are doing an incredible job being joined top with Real.

Griezmann's resurgence to playing at this level has been very impressive. As soon as he went to Barca I thought he was finished and it very much looked the case for a few years. Do remember him scoring a brace against us in the game in Madrid where he ended up getting sent off but it looked a one off. Even Morata is looking like a decent striker after always being very hit or miss. Glad they didn't drop down to the Europa League.

Their biggest problem right now though is the defence. Gradually over the years they've gone from having that ridiculously tight, bodies on the line, you shall not pass defence to having dossers at the back now. Oblak was world class but has looked a shadow of it these past few years.

Madrid or Girona to win the title then. Pretty depressing that but I suppose Madrid have won it a thousand times before. Sigh. Good win for Rafa's boys last night which was nice to see, they really are unlucky not to be further up the table and that's with an average squad who just about survived last season, also lost their most exciting player in Veiga. Aspas still contributing though.

Valverde continuing to do a very good job with Bilbao, they're up to 3rd place as it stands. I feel like a Premier League club could have an Emery/Villa style resurgence under him, he's always been quite good. Sevilla remain just outside the relegation zone.

Atletico fans chanted 'Vinicius, you are a monkey' outside the stadium and he's had similar abuse from fans of other teams.  Spain has a real problem with racism and the authorities and clubs aren't doing anywhere near enough to stamp it out of football over there.

Not to downplay the issues, but do other black footballers get the same level of abuse as Vinicius? I don't pay too much attention to Spanish football these days, but every time I see or hear of something like this it always seems that Vinicius is the target.

Don't really know, but agree that he's the one who sounds like he gets the worst of it.  Assume it's because he's the most high profile and actually calls them out.

Almeria not won a game all season in the league either, would be an embarrassing defeat.

I really can see Alonso starting next season as their manager. I know they've just extended Ancelotti til 2026 but unless they win the Champions League again which I don't think they will I reckon he's gone. It looks like they'll have to scrape past Girona and even if they do that it'll be unconvincing. Defensively they've done well without a couple of key players, midfield is set up, but no clinical striker or anything.

I think Alonso should stay on for a bit with Leverkusen but if he is to manage Liverpool one day I'd like to think he's managed Madrid before coming here.

Madrid will probably come back but it is embarrassing.

Can see Tuchel gone before season ends as well so in theory Xabi could be a candidate for either of those clubs.

I can definitely see him managing both of those, perhaps even Liverpool at one point too. Might even just repeat his playing career and go to Sociedad too who are one of the top sides in Spain at the minute, he's already been at their B side.

If I'm him I'm staying with Leverkusen and seeing what I can do with them in the Champions League, perhaps more domestic glory next season too regardless of what they win this season. They can challenge in the Europa this season too. Both Madrid and Bayern will want him as Tuchel isn't a long term manager, so hopefully get both out his system as we finish up with Klopp in ten years time, and the glory continues with Xabi.
