Gonna have a fantastic partnership with that Van Dijk lad from Jan 1st  ::)

Made a fantastic start to his Liverpool career.

Thought exact same thing during the game ha.

Matip a quality quality defender, knows when to play and when to get rid.

Hopefully our annual buy from Saints is Van Dijk this year  ;D

Would certainly be an interesting partnership that. Doubt Jurgen would want to spend £40m on a CB though.

Why would Klopp spunk 30-40m on a PL player when he could get someone like Tah from the Bundesliga for a fraction of the cost.

I think he has the potential to be the best centre-half we've had since Hansen. The guy just oozes class, every decision is right, every ball finds a man. Absolute quality.

He did you know, spunk 30-40m pounds on PL player this year. I also don't think Tah is as good as Van Dijk. Van Dijk and Matip both dominated today's game.

He's boss

Got a bit annoyed with everyone knocking one out over Dijk when we've got our own Rolls Royce and it's disrespectful to Lovren too. Who hasn't done much wrong since Jurgen came in.

One of our best signings in ages - I knew he was highly rated but was he this imposing in Germany? I don't think he's looked phased by a single thing he's come up against so far, just exudes such calm which I think translates through to the rest of our players. Lovren has done well, but imagine if we could clone Matip? We'd be unbeatable! I love as well that we can go long stretches without being tested but he never seems to lose concentration or focus. Just an absolute rock.

Playing like a £35m centre back. Seriously, if that's the type of fees being paid for Luiz, Stones, Mustafi etc then he is worth that as well.

Free transfer. Unreal business.

He's fucking brilliant and our defence is excellent. Funny the "Liverpool cant defend" stuff, I've got no worries about our defence at all. Been to Spurs, Chelsea and Southampton and they've created 3 excellent chances between them and thats it!

We defend from open play extremely well.

Compare to last season when we continually got caught on the break, almost never happens this season..

Matip has been a key part of that. Very good at marking strikers, gets really tight to them without being over aggressive. Loves to just wrap his long legs around the forward and poke the ball away. :p

Love how he was always asking for the ball and getting forward. Played some quality passes you would usually expect from a midfielder. Definitely the best CB we have signed in years. Oh, and for free :D.

I really do love a ball playing center back. A Roll's royce of a player.
I said this in the post match thread but Roll's Royce doesn't quite do him justice - he's more like one of those 70s Citroen DS's, he has this air of almost gallic flair and not giving a shitness. Just oozes calm and he's a bit of an original too, he has the je ne sais quoi that Rollers, for me, lack.

I'd go so far as to say that, right now, he's probably the one player we have who could walk into any other team in the world. He's phenomenal, I love him.

Spotted that. 9 out of 10 players lose it when they slip, and are so desperate to make amends that they'd go charging in, failing to notice that Lovren was there (and great recovery by him, too). Instead Matip realises that the best place to be is where he is, calmly controls the attempted cut-back, and sets us off on the attack again. He's the Thierry Henry of defenders.

Loving all this awe for Matip. To me he is the standout player week after week. So calm, such reading of the play, positioning is remarkable (as noted, even when he's on his arse!)... And his ability to head the ball away...

What a difference he is making. [Just imagine once JK has a couple more seasons to shape our defense more to his liking!!]

He's utterly superb. Nothing else to be said.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

The thing I love about him is he's a 'on his feet' defender. If you compare him to the likes of Skertl and Sakho much of their defending involves retrieving tackles. Joel doesn't allow that to happen due to his reading of the game and his altiming of the tackle. He is outstanding and can be the very best that I've seen and I've seen big Sami and Hansen. I reckon if the right money was offered for big Virgil then they would be imperious together
