Very powerful documentary but immensely sad as well .All I can say is Phil Scraton you are truly a very special person.
I also have to say the courage the families showed to keep fighting was incredible. I have to be honest to say if I was in their position I might have given up.

all I can say is thank-you.

I know I'm taking that quote a bit out of context. Certainly with respect to those who were in the pens, or knew those in the pens, that is completely on another level.

But, Prof. Scraton, virtually everyone is thankful to you. While I won't even attempt to speak for those, and realise I am further away from the situation than most (in distance - over in the US, knowing no one in the UK; in age - I was 6 at the time of Hillsborough; and in connection to Liverpool - I've only been following the club since 2010), I would imagine I speak for many when I say that so many are so very thankful to you, far beyond what words could possibly convey.

Made the new girlfriend watch it, shes a Hammers fan and had heard and seen the details of the inquiry, she sat there crying at the documentary, the fans, the ordinary bobbies, the families, she could not believe what she was watching, a must watch but bloody difficult one, had nightmares last night which is the first for a lot of years, i just hope they get the fuckers before they all pop off, Paul Middup is the one i want to see fucked over, his manner, his attitude got me really going last night i forgot about that ghet

Unfortunately it still continued even at the inquest. John Beggs QC was the c*nt who tried to regurgitate the drunk fans line. I emailed the c*nt and suggested he give his taxpayer funded fees (5,000) per day to charity.

I don't know whether this will help for anyone (I hadn't received any notes of anyone having issues with the plain .mp4 file), but just in case, I made a plain .html webpage with the video embedded. Nothing fancy, but just in case someone needed a webpage to display the video in, as opposed to launching the video directly. Let me know if there are any issues or problems.

Found it very hard to watch , I was outside and decided that I wasn't trying to get in that end , although that's where my ticket was for,I then ended up in the north stand, can't remember who I was with in the north stand or who of my mates ended up in that end. then remember seeing one mate on the pitch ,he was ok and arguing with the police to do something, remember getting on the pitch to calm him down , obviously  I didn't know how bad it was remember returning to north stand and then not much else apart from mini bus journey home. I remember after the final that year in an Irish club in North London , Camden I think , being asked by a young female how many had I killed and told that we had killed our own, I just cried.

Finally the truth, but we wait for justice

for too long us fans have had to fight the lies and propaganda of the Government, Police and Media over their lies and cover up.

These families deserved closure, truth, and justice. 2 out of 3 for now, but the justice has to come down hard on all involved! JFT96 YNWA

Had it recorded and watched it early hours this morning, tears streaming down and anger beyond belief.

To the families and Prof Scraton I am in awe and to the bloke 30-40 seats to the left of me at the 20 year anniversary who stood up when Andy Burnham was talking and shouted 'Justice' which led to the chanting, that chain reaction by one fan had a ripple effect that no-one could have envisaged.  I have no idea who he is but well done to you sir

Whatever we have experienced through 27 years, however difficult and desperate, it is none of those dreadful experiences. And I believe that has shaped our collective endeavour ... to try to understand with compassion and care the lives and experiences of those fine people who have lost so much, for whom there can never be 'closure'. It is to ensure that Justice for the 96 is more than a wish. It has to be a reality. With great respect to all of you who in whatever way have carried that torch. In this journey no-one should be left walking alone.

Brilliant that. Likewise the entire post.

The enormity of what has been achieved through the HIP report and the recent inquests cannot be overstated. And, in no small part, it was achieved through the hard work and diligence of Phil Scraton.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Tremendous.

I don't think you should underestimate your own courage or that of the Panel, whose diligence has provided the evidence to enable those with less courage to accept the truth.

Thank you.

All I can say is Thank You Phil Scraton for your massive contribution towards finally getting justice for the 96 unlawfully killed fans, their families and close friends, Liverpool fans there on the day, Liverpool fans in general who may or may not even have been born in 1989 and the City of Liverpool generally. I am a long established fan of the club who has lived in the city but not for many years but I still manage to follow the club and attend a fair few matches. I have had many discussions over the years with middle class friends and acquaintances who would listen politely to what I had to say about Hillsborough but you could tell they didn't really buy what really happened. They are not bad people, they would regard themselves as law abiding. They would never 'rock the boat' and they had faith in the establishment. Now I have people coming to me and saying the version I told them is correct and corruption in the emergency services and possibly even Westminster is apparent. Its like these people have finally found their eyesight again and I guess they will never again fully believe everything the authorities tell them.
So thank you again for all that you did for all of the victims and victims families and friends because they are the most deserving. But also I would like to thank you on behalf of ALL Liverpool fans for playing such an important role in publicly giving us our credibility and pride back. Never again will I feel alone when I try to reason with those who will not listen.

Unfortunately it still continued even at the inquest. John Beggs QC was the c*nt who tried to regurgitate the drunk fans line. I emailed the c*nt and suggested he give his taxpayer funded fees (5,000) per day to charity.
His questioning of Kenny our manager that day was a disgrace. I wasn't at the inquest but the transcripts leave no doubt, he went for him like a pit bull terrier trying to get him to fall into a trap of agreeing with him that the fans were hooligans. Kenny handled it brilliantly and kept his wits which must have been a nasty surprise for Beggs as he came out of it far worse off. Kenny was also a survivor and he still went for his throat.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it. It's probably only since 2012 that I have realised that I am still traumatised by the disaster itself and my feelings of guilt in the years since.

I had feelings of guilt for contributing to the crush outside the turnstiles which led to the gates being opened. But that day in 2012 when the panel announced its results I cried like a baby throughout the day and I believe that released twenty odd years of pent up guilt and post traumatic stuff.

Like someone else said get some counselling mate it will definitely help. Good luck.

Its not often I post, but after watching the documentary and after reading this I thought I had too. I remember that day, sitting there in front of the TV as a teenager watching Grandstand waiting for news of the game only to watch the horror that unfolded in front of my eyes. I can't imagine what the families went through only to say that this film has given me some idea, and also filled in some of the blanks. Though I knew most of this through the years of information through the families fight and having seen many films and docs regarding the subject I hadn't realised the role prof Scratron, what a hero. The programme was harrowing but hopefully many people who knew nothing are now educated in what was the biggest miscarriage of Justice the UK has ever seen.

RIP 96

Perfectly alright by me. Until my webhost notices that I've used about 23,000 times as much bandwidth in the past few days of this month as I did all of last month, and says anything about it to me (they haven't yet), I'll do my best to keep it up there. As you can see, there are no ads or anything on my website, I'm not making anything off this, this is all so that more people have the opportunity to see it. So, again, unless/until my webhost makes a fuss, anyone is free to share it from there anywhere they want however they want, with no need to check with me or credit me in any way whatsoever. I know from my logs it's been linked at least once from Twitter already, and that's great. This is about the real truth finally getting out there to everyone, and I'm just trying to do what I can.

Thanks for your thoughts mate. I am okay. I know the value of sharing my feelings with others. I can't really talk to my wife and family. They don't really understand even though they see the tears.  But, I have a bunch of mates who also have similar feelings. We talk about it often and it helps.

Your post is me too. I would add that I feel immense guilt that for much of the years from the original inquest to 2012, I have often said that we should just drop the quest for justice. I thought it was too painful for all despite deep down knowing that it was all so, so wrong. Too find out the Police were instrumental in the horrendous stories of our alleged behaviour that appeared in the press, was really hard to deal with as, very sadly on my part, part of my subconscious was telling me that just maybe there was some truth there.

I tip my cap to all of you who were there and never ever doubted that we were right.

Yeah, no use for us over here in the US.

I mean, I understand why to an extent. But it's like, seriously, I have all of the BBC channels my cable package over here will give me (a whole 1 channel - BBC America - out of the 340 on my cable package  :P), I would pay for the others over here if they would let me... but it's not even an option.

Someone import me over to the UK  ;D

There are some people in this world who truly make a positive difference and you sir are one of them. Only you know how much hard work that you put in and the long lonely hours when I'm sure at times you thought it was going to be fruitless. You could have given up but you found the strength to carry on. You deserve all the thanks from us all and you are a shining beacon in a story of at times pathetic lies.

What an absolute star you are.

Hard watch. But everyone should watch it

The fans were heroes, knew what was happening and fought to get as many out as possible. The police were useless but you felt for those interviewed because they were being told different things and acted on orders from the horrible c*nts in the control tower

Phil Scraton is a hero. The families are heroes. True heroes. Without them and their fight for justice this would have been covered up and everyone would have gotten away with it. The uncovered the truth and have shown the police and the government for the evil scum they are

I watched it on Sunday.

As many people have said, it's a hard watch but everyone really should see it!

It just shows that if you keep fighting and keep digging then the truth will come out, it's very hard when the scumbag higher police officiers and government are against you but it isn't an impossible fight!

Thank you Phil Scraton for taking up the case and getting it to where we are today.  All seemed lost but he got us there!

My heart goes out to all the people who were affected by the tragedy, not only pain and suffering during the immediate aftermath, but for a further 27 years!!  They are heroes.

I hope now we see proper accountability for the people responsible

They both went in high, that's factually correct, both tried to play the ball at height.  Doku with his foot, Mac Allister with his chest.

Interesting to me growing up around the height of Thatchers regime - the world generally loved her. As I grew older and took courses - the gloss came off. But then to read the kinds of things she openly, willingly and purposefully did to certain segments of the people of the country she had been elected to rule is shocking.  Beyond shocking really.

I wish someone with some pull would write a real biography of the witch.

No one in my world loved her.

No one in my world loved her.

She was loved by a fair few in the south, but also hated to.

She had a strict, oppressive, religious upbringing which shapped her into the person/PM that she became.

Nice touch, will add this to the ticket thread too. :)
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."
