He shot into a concert crowd, lots of people clumped together, plus 2-3 minutes is a lot longer than people think it is. Absolutely possible.

Fully automatic rate of fire is about 150 rounds per minute - 3 minutes = 450 rounds. In a packed crowd almost every round would have hit someone and many rounds would have struck more than one person.

Shooting fish in a barrel wouldn't really be the right analogy as there would be plenty of space in the barrel - shooting sardines packed into a tin would be closer.

If you hear the non stop shooting, he had to have been letting off about 5 shots a second, I dont know if thats possible but this is how it sounded.

He apparently killed himself so I would assume that was as the police were trying to get in to the room, again I would assume he was still shooting and only stopped when his location was found.

That's very quick thinking / acting between first shots and getting to a room on the 32nd floor in a near by hotel.

The sound of gunfire came from the hotel. Some people in the crowd saw muzzle flashes and identified where the shooting was coming from. It's likely that people in neighbouring rooms would have heard sustained gunfire. There's police scanner audio of the police outside the room preparing for the breach and you hear the door going in. There's no sound of gunfire outside the door so he may have killed himself already.

This is indeed a terrorist attack according to the State of Nevada.

That to me is a pretty useless definition. The term terrorism is used to help define, a coordinated motive, ideological base, political objective etc. in order to better frame and bring into focus those who would potentially commit another similar act of terrorism. It sets apart an ideology from a grievance for example.

I think people are too eager to jump on the "oh white man = mentally ill vs brown man = terrorism" bandwagon without actually thinking about what terrorism is and why language, yet again, is so important.

If you go around labelling everything as terrorism then the term looses it's meaning and usefulness in the sense I've already mentioned.

thanks for that. I understand all the points you made, but still very quick thinking  / acting from the police, if not, it could have been a lot worse considering the amount of weapons found in his room as reported

Just fucking awful. It takes one cold, calculated motherfucker to do something like this. 32 floors up, shooting down on thousands of innocent people with a fully/semi-automatic weapon?

I just don't get it. RIP to those who died and I hope those injured and affected in other ways can find a way to get through it.

I suppose in a situation like that your perception of time will be off and understandably so. I know this isn't a comparison at all, but recently I was involved in trying to break up a brawl and it was a bad situation and it seemed like it lasted for 20 minutes. Afterwards, people who were watching said it was much less than that. I suppose in such an crazy, frightening and scary situation like this with so many people around and so much adrenaline pumping to get away people will have different perceptions and ideas of how long it lasted.

He was inside a hotel room. officers broke into the room and killed him. witnesses say the shooting lasted about 2 minutes, no idea if he ran out of ammo or whether the officers manged to get to him in just 2 min, if they managed to identify the room, break in and kill him inside 2 min then they did an amazing job and this could have be a lot worse.

I read that he checked into the Hotel on the 28th,the shooting lasted between 10-15 minutes and he had set up cameras so that he could see when the Police moved in and then took his own life.Obviously fully planned out before he went to hotel to have had a room over looking the concert venue

No doubt you are right but the amount actually suffering from bullet wounds will be very high given the nature of the crowd and their close/tightly packed situation. The first 100 to 200 hundred bullets for example could have all found targets before people realised what was happening. Absolutely sickening.

There showing a photo of him and the girl on TV now, typical white American with a beard in his 50s. ive no idea whats kicked him off but as you say it was planned before he got to the hotel so no spare of the moment shooting, I hope they manage to capture his girlfriend alive to see why he could do such a thing.
