He was inside a hotel room. officers broke into the room and killed him. witnesses say the shooting lasted about 2 minutes, no idea if he ran out of ammo or whether the officers manged to get to him in just 2 min, if they managed to identify the room, break in and kill him inside 2 min then they did an amazing job and this could have be a lot worse.

Yep. For those not educated on what 'carry' actually means

'Carry' means to own and hold a gun (pistol, rifle, assault rifle) on your person

'Open Carry' means you can carry your loaded gun on your person in full view of the public (it must be holstered and not in your hands though)

So in law (enshrined by the 2nd amendment of the constitution (that is over 200 years old)) a person in Nevada can carry a loaded gun out in public without risk of any legal recourse.

Looking at the video above and google maps, it looks like he was shooting maybe 500 yards and down from the 32nd floor at a few thousand in the lot across the street.

On fully automatic, he wouldn't even have to aim but just point it in the general direction in order to hit people in that crowd.

I know, it's just insane.

I've seen links around over the years describing techniques and gizmos to convert to fully auto.

I think in most states it's technically illegal to have new weapons that are fully auto or have been converted to, though I was led to understand that ownership of fully automatic stuff is allowed if the weapon manufacture predates a certain date to enable gun collectors to have them.

I think California at least recently managed to enact a law restricting magazine capacity to 10 rounds, but the usual suspects attempted to overturn it pleading the usual nonsensical reasons, freedom etc.

Not quite, with either this or this you would have difficulty hearing anything over normal background noise, only a very slight and very muffled click, but I agree that the portrayal in films of silencers is fantasy stuff. You can't silence supersonic ammunition, you have to reduce the charge, or employ subsonic ammunition, and the weapon itself has to be designed to be silent in operation. You can't simply bolt some kind of assembly on the end of a barrel of any normal gun and expect it to be silent as in films, it won't be. It may be moderated, but not silent.

If Americans want to carry arms to defend themselves then fair enough, a hand gun maybe, still mad but there you go.
But how can anyone be allowed such heavy weaponry, even soldiers on the front lines in conflicts are not this well armed. It cant be self defence, it cant be shooting practice, cant be hunting. Its too powerful for anything logical, how can this be sold without questions.
