I really like the new Russel Brand podcast where he talks to a series of intellectuals about a wide range of issues. A recent one with Adam Curtis was particularly good.

Distraction Pieces is a good podcast for long form interviews. Worth going through the back catalog.

Agree with Kermode and Mayo.

Also like the new Owen Jones podcast and for my boxing fix, Toe2toe and 5liveBoxing.

The Joe Rogan Experience
I find this to be incredibly hit or miss. There'll be a really interesting episode, like the one with Shirley Manson from Garbage, then a terrible one. I guess it's to be expected from a podcast that targets a large audience, but I sometimes get frustrated with all the "broscience" for lack of a better term.

I listen to Joe Rogan's podcast fairly regularly. I agree with you, it can be very hit and miss at times. Especially when he has that bloke on who loves babbling on about Conor McGregor. I couldn't be arsed listening to that kind of shite. Not my cup of tea at all. Then again, I guess given Rogan's ties to UFC he's probably contracted to plug their PPV's on his show every now and then

He had Bill Burr on the other week though. One of my favourite comedians - who does a hilarious podcast of his own. That was great. As was the Shirley Manson one as you say. James Hetfield was on too recently which was pretty good, as was Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He certainly varies the types of guests he brings on. I'll give him that.

The DeGrasse Tyson one was really entertaining. Just find it hard to stomach when he gives someone like Alex Jones airtime.

I've started listening to Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy [Matthew Syed, a Times writer & former table tennis player]. It's actually surprisingly enjoyable. They can all be a bit cringeable in their own way, but the show works really well. The topics they pick to talk about are quite interesting and they're very good at naming names and being critical when telling stories, rather than protecting other players' anonymity.

Also, never thought I'd say this but Robbie Savage has actually grown on me since listening to it.

James Richardson is leaving with Guardian Football Weekly podcast, along with producer Ben, to set up a new podcast with Iain Macintosh called the Totally Football Show.

Shit, that's going to be hard to replace. I've also just realised I've been listening to Football Weekly since at least the 2006 World Cup.

That`s a shame. I can only assume they want to monetize after years of simply working for The Guardian?

Podcast Addict is excellent and all you'll need. Allows you to subscribe and download which is very useful if you're wanting to save on data usage. Not sure how similar it is to the iOS app though as never owned an iPhone.

Podcast Addict is my favourite free app.  Its more user friendly than the iOS app for me.  There's also one just called Podcast Player but that interface is a bit dull.
There's a stitcher one and Pocket Cast, but that last one costs a few quid.

Also use Beyondpod and it does the job. Have never tried any other app though so they could be better.

Only annoying thing about Beyondpod is that the free version doesn't let you autodownload new episodes or cast to Chromecast.

Just started listening to 99% Invisible. It is a weekly podcast that focuses on design and architecture. It has been going for ages and there is about 300 episodes. Some episodes are 15 minutes long and some closer to an hour. Some episodes are really interesting.
