Personally hope England batter the Dutch tonight so there is a massive wankathon to get Pearce the job on a fulltime basis.

Failing that, I hope the FA listen to Charlie Nicholas and give the job to Roy Hodgson.

I don't really support anyone in International football. England are a team full of pricks and the FA and the English press are a fucking disgrace, so I find it hilarious when they fail.

In general, I like the teams that play good football, so recently the likes of Germany and Spain. I also like Uruguay because of Luis, and because it seems like a boss country.

Again another good shout. If I 'supported' anyone in International Football then it would teams that happened to have Liverpool FC players in.

Club is way more important than International Football teams could ever be.

He's a good choice. Gerrard would have been more deserving IMO, but this is for one match - nothing to say the new permanent boss won't have his own thoughts.

Think Gerrard might perform better for England without the burden of the captaincy.

Gerrard should walk away because he's not going to be captain? Who cares, really?

He'll probably retire after the Euros, but let the man have one last tournament.

He should walk away because

a) England FC are bellends
b) The FA are bellends
c) The media are bellends
d) The Engerlund fans are bellends
e) He should save himself for LFC and have the summer off to come back fighting fresh and raring to go

Personally I think if he plays in Euro 2012 then he'll come back injured and will play less than half a season for us again. He's got a massive chance here to end his career on a high and the length of that career is up to him. If he plays for England - you can knock 2 maybe three seasons off.

The media wankathon is going to be unbearable.

They'll be wanking over themselves as they've been calling for it for a while and Pearce seems to have made his squad selection and now captain on what they say. He's not the worst choice IMO but not the best either. Like you say though, there'll be a huge celebration tonight. All hail Super Scott Parker!

It's just a bit of a slap in the face for Gerrard really. I would understand if they'd given it to say, Joe Hart, someone who's going to be around the England set up for a long time, but Parker's the same age as Gerrard.

What has Parker done to make him a more viable candidate than Gerrard, a man who has captained teams at the highest level for years?

(Not that any of this actually matters, but I wouldn't be too happy if I were Stevie.)

Maybe, and I'm just guessing, Gerrard loves playing for his country? He's not going to walk away three months before his last major tournament.

Like I said, I'd have picked Gerrard for captain. But some people prefer their captains to play in more traditional positions - central defence or central midfield. Gerrard will be playing further forward for England. It's not an argument I agree with, but I've heard plenty people make it.

He's just gone out and become the media darling. I echo the posters who say give it to Hart or someone like that, but to choose Parker over Gerrard is quizzical at best. Gerrard has been captain for club and country, and I assume this is only because as others have said, Gerrard doesn't start against the Oranje.

It could be that Pearce knows he's going to pick Gerrard for the Euros and looking to give someone like Parker the captaincy for the two years up to the World Cup because Gerrard's retiring after this tournament, then Hart will take over post-WC.

Then why is Frazier Campbell, among a few others, in the squad? Barry, Walcott and Downing are hardly media favourites right now, unlike say Oxlade-Chamberlin. Personally thought a lot of the media wanted Hart to get the armband as well.

Bit Machiavellian that, seeing as Pearce will be lucky to last until the euros, whereupon you can guarantee he'll be shit and get sacked, thus leading to another search for another manager who'll want another captain and the whole ultra tedious circus will start again.
